VERY disappointed... VERY.

I've been excited about Skyrim ever since i saw the first trailer of it and learned that you
had changed the leveling system for the better. For several months i followed the developement
and watched several vids on Youtube from the game.

This Tuesday i decided to give myself a Xmas gift so i ordered Skyrim for PC, today it had
dropped into my mailbox when i arrived home from work to my enjoyment.

Put on a pot of coffee, turned on my stereo and got ready to install the game.....

WTF... no option to pick directory for installment?... Are you kidding me !!. Every game has
that option, even games made by amateurs. And this game, made by one of the most respected
developers doesn't give me ANY option to change my directory , are you kidding me?.

So... right now i feel like buying a ticked to wherever Betheda keeps their office, and shove this
DVD up where the sun don't shine.

My c: partition is not created for containing games, it has the OS, some other vital programs and
nothing else. So how on earth do i change the directory for installment for this game?.

It installs wherever you have Steam installed, that's a Steam limitation. You should try moving your Steam folder/install to wherever you wish Skyrim to be.

It svcks, but not as badly as all that :)

The game will automatically install wherever you installed Steam. If you want a custom install, do this:

1. Uninstall everything
2. Install Steam's standalone client from their website (and in the directory of your choice)
3. Install Skyrim (which will default into your Steamapps folder)
4. Update your game
5. Enjoy your game from the installation directory of your choice

Didn't want to fiddle with Vista's UAC when I wanted to play, so I manually downloaded Steam directly into my "C:" drive before Skyrim was released... hadn't had a problem since.

I tried moving Steam to my HD for games, but as soon as i launched the Skyrim installer, it re-installed Steam on the original C: partition.

Moving Steam, or installing Steam? Are you trying to install Steam off your retail disk?

Don't know the inner workings of Steam (like if it needs a .dll off Windows), but it should install wherever you pointed it at.

I feel your frustration :)

You could try disconnecting from the internet, installing Skyrim, and then reconnecting afterward & let Steam do the authorisation thing rather than the entire download thing... ?

Might work.

I too bought the physical copy of Skyrim, in hopes of avoiding steam. And was disappointed when I found out I still needed it to run the game.

I don't wish to unnecessarily prolong such a useless conversation, hopefully we can nip it in the bud. Are you saying that NOBODY ever had a 360 problem? No you are not. here is one single example of a PC problem. Which we are trying to solve.

Thanks for understanding.

I just googled this issue and came up with the following 10 steps from the official PC owners forum:

1: Remove game from PC
2: Uninstall Steam and all other third party applications
3: Unplug PC and pack into original packaging
4: Place new Skyrim DVD into original box
5: Place all items into car and drive to store
6: Hunt in bag/wallet/purse for all receipts
7: Persuade store clark that you made a mistake
8: Exhange all goods for Xbox 360, Sony Bravia 50" TV, 5.1 Surround sound system and leather sofa
9: Pack goods into car and drive home
10: Set up goods, crack open beer and enjoy

Problemo solved!

This doesn't solve the OP's issue.
