And please, let this be an invitation to others to leave stories of their harrowing tales either on this thread or make their own. I LOOOVE hearing good stories as well as giving them!

Thanks! I'm sure the mods will add a lot, they usually do, but I find it's fun to play as one now. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the majority view on these forums... or maybe the minority who don't like it are the loudest, which is usually the case. Who knows? But I'm having a grand old time playing as one now! :-)

Actually, imho you can enjoy playing using magic while still feeling the system needs an overhaul. Which is my experience at the least.

To me it just means the experience could be even better.. So when we get the creation kit most (or all) the gripes I have with the magic system will be fixed, but until then I'm still having a lot of fun.

Maybe, when I'm done my next thief character I'll go back to my mage character or make a new one and check out the mods that improve the magic system.

Haha, thanks! Figures why I felt my magic was doing jacks***. The problem is I specialized on one element, lightning, so I can use perks on other trees. Maybe when I'm past the 60's I'll do that...

Having a secondary spec always helps. Considering many frost resistant enemies out there ( all nord nps's, frost saber-bear-trolls etc) i use lightning and fire. Lightning costs a lil bit more mana but your cast reaches enemy instantly compared to fireball etc.

I was on the edge of my seat all the way lol.

I've had enough encounters of those Volkihar vamps to know to stay away if there's too many. Or use stealth and if that fails, leggit. I think there's one near the Clavicus shrine, he cleaved my noggin clean off in a finishing move ;'(

There's only one thing to do after taking down an opponent like that. Dead thrall him.

Vampires haven't been a formidable enemy since Daggerfall.

Thank you for going to the trouble of writing all of this out. It was a good read.

This. In Daggerfall, they were mysterious, very powerful, very old enemies. and some of the hardest in the game actually. Becoming one was even more of a gift/curse, since you literally died, losing all affiliation with your human counterparts factions. I also don't like how the Volkihar are just in name only in Skyrim. They are basically just the Cyrodiilic sub strain that you can catch.

I was thinking of doing that, but are they gimped during the day and out in sunlight?

Cool story but yeah, vampires fall very fast to fire. It's their kryptonite for sure. I can usually drop a group of them quite easily with fire spells. I took out plenty of masters with little trouble with fire. Remember those guys have a 100% vulnerability to fire.

Just wait until you come across a Master Volkihar Vampire, they're really nasty. What's gonna be even nastier though is when they introduce the big momma Vampire herself, Lamae Beolfag. I have a feeling they're saving her for a DLC, since they've already done concept art of her.
On my Mage, i kept redoing the "Laid to Rest" quest until i got Movarth Piquine to spawn as a Dunmer. After i killed him, i then reanimated him with Dead Thrall. Nasty ass Vampire Master that is more resistant to Fire than others. One of my top picks for a Dead Thrall candidate.

I also had my first Volkihar encounter today. First try he swatted me like a fly. Second try I drank a Potion of True Shot, activated Berserker Rage and handled him with a few arrows. I was about level 30.

Beth obviously couldn't be bothered to create proper system for them. Or a lore friendly one for that matter.

They would be much more interesting, and formidable no doubt.

Pain in the [censored] more like. The Vampire Ancients in Daggerfall would kill you the instant they got close to you. Still, it was nice to have an "oh crap" enemy in the game.

Any of the STALKER games. Except the combat doesn't pause in the weapon/items menu, so you have to find cover first.
Totally different scenario's, but the STALKER series is the one I'm most reminded of by the random cool stuff Skyrim does.

I am playing with Dead Thralls, and I just learned that if you get the Necromage perk in the restoration tree you can Dead Thrall vampires higher level than Dead Thrall can normally work on.
The reason why I thought it was interesting is because I have Dead Thralled master vampires, but when I came across a volkihar vampire it said that it was too strong to dead thrall.

This is why I hate the [censored]es and whiners and sulkers. Because in the end...THIS GAME IS AMAZING!! With all it's flaws and what not...AMAZING!
It could have been even better had Bethesda taken a look at their own lore regarding the Volkihar and not simply copypasted the Cyrodillic version of vampires into Skyrim.

That's why people whine and sulk, and there is no shame in that. There is no shame in wanting a game developer to do a better job than the last. Good read though. As long as you're having fun, nothing else really matters.

Great story bro, enjoyed it. Havnt come across those vampires yet. Bricking it for when I do (unless I catch her on sneak, then my bows gonna tear her a new one)
i agree, it is an amazing game, its not super predictable, its very dynamic, but i totally agree. this game is obiously super popular because a lot of people are playing it, some might be complaining but they are still playing it.
