waking nightmare "keep him alive" or "kill him a

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:02 am

Hello,

My question is about quest Waking nightmare. Kill him and get the skull ... ( forgot if its a staff or not).. or keeping him alive and let him destroy it. Did both found out keeping him alive he will become a follower for me. but my question is if you let him destroy the artifact will it somehow effect any xbox achievements? If im correct ( might be wrong) its a Daedric Artifact. which means I could not complete achievement " Oblivion Walker".... hope someone can give me some answers!

thanks:-)

Yes, it's a Daedric artifact.

If you let him destroy it, you cannot complete the achievement for collecting Daedric Artifacts.

I don't really call myself a collect type player.

I take the Artifacts that I find interesting and keep those, I passed on the Skull of Corruption, as it isn't really my style to kill people for weapons.

On my next or future playthroughs I will at least get all 15 once.

And this is why I hate achievements. They motivate you to play the game NOT how you would originally have played the game, thus possibily deriving you of more enjoyment.

I'm glad I have started ignoring these completely.

More on topic:
My character has taken a vow to never kill someone that has saved his life or asked for help.

Spoiler
The NPC in question asked for my help cleaning out a tower and never betrayed me--he gets to live. It's the same reason I didn't kill the Dawnstar museum npc. Crazy thing was I figured both would turn on me-kudos on Bethesda for suprising me by having them NOT turn on me.

I dunno.... just my personal preference and opinion;

I think you should play it as you would first, then go back a second time and try for your achievements. With my short attention span, I get bored real easily when all is said and done and wouldn't find it as enjoyable, roleplay-wise, after knowing the outcome from chasing achievements all over the game. :hubbahubba:

He did however betray his friends, leave them to their fate, then eventually returning in order to get a mercenary to kill 'em all off. *unsheats blade*--he gets to die.

Good point, still would have joined his friends and killed him if it had been possible... petty they had to die :( they seemed like nice people.

If you're bothered about the achievement, save before you whack the man. Like I, I couldn't bear the shame knowing I killed a do-gooder.

Would this count towards the trophy? It did give me my first "Daedric Artifact" trophy so I am wondering if I reload if it will still count towards the 15. I am playing a fairly self centered Illusionist/Pickpocket/Speech/Destruction/Enchanting character who steals and manipulates to get what she wants, but I liked this particular NPC so would rather not kill him if I don't have to (this is about as evil as a character as I plan to make, so if she doesn't kill this guy, my future or past characters certainly wouldn't kill him either).

If you make this the last artifact to complete the achievement, you can kill him, get achievement and reload game. The staff itself is worthless, forcing you to jump loops for a measly 50 damage, even a normal lightning bolt staff is better.

I let him live.

When it came down to a weapon that A: Stole people's dreams and drove them crazy, AND B: required the life of a remorseful man who regretted his mistakes.... I just couldn't pay that much for it.

...but there are other Daedric quests that are far worse. :P Maybe make this one 2nd or 3rd to last.

In my first game he glitched (didnt open the stone wall) and so i was forced to reload from a save at least 3 hours old. So when i finally managed to complete the quest i tortured him in punishment. He deserved it!.

I can't kill the guy anymore, he's just a cool cat. I would rather get the two artifacts from that one quest so I don't have to kill him.

He glitched on me one time. He started the dialogue right outside the tower and two Frost Trolls attacked so I had to exit the conversation to fight them. When we entered the tower he was no where to be found.

I help him and destroy the Skull of Corruption.
I saved and killed him and tried it out though. From curiosity to see what it was like.
I felt so guilty I reloaded and destroyed it.

But I had to kill him this time for the deadric artifacts trophy.
Felt bad about it.

It is the one deadric quest were I would'nt do what it asked for the item.

Well I decided if I wanted the trophy this was the only character I plan on making who would do something like that. So I killed him, but I felt so guilty I dragged his body all the way back to the little shrine he had set up so he could be at peace there. Now I have made it this character's primary goal to collect all of the artifacts.

If you don't want to kill him, then it is still possible to get the Xbox 360 achievement. You can obtain two daedric artifacts in the quest Ill Met by Moonlight, and both will count towards the achievement.

This is the article explaining how to do it: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ill_Met_By_Moonlight#Bugs
