War against Thalmor?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:43 am

Thats only really a possibility if the stormcloak ending because canon which I doubt it would be, knowing Bethesda they'll do something weird to work around it.

I'm pretty sure it will work with the Imperial ending as well. A weakened Skyrim in a war against the Thalmor, it would mean the start of the second great war and it would be a good way to force a singular ending on the two story lines.

You are making an assumption that Thalmor would come through land. They could always use the sea. Also if they would come on land it's possible already. I can't see why the Empire wouldn't let them go through Cyrodiil if they are going to attack against independent Skyrim which seems to be enemy in the eyes of the Empire too.

Um... No. Just, no.

First, a sea invasion would be completely impractical. The Thalmor would have to sail around Hammerfell and High Rock to reach Skyrim. They'd have to sail not just their army, but also enough supplies to maintain it in a foreign land. The logistics of that kind of an invasion would be rather prohibitive. Second, you seem to be working under the assumption that the Stormcloaks win. Skyrim is not the Empire's enemy. Skyrim is a province in rebellion. So for such a DLC to work at all, it'd have to be a completely separate entity taking place after the entire game. That's another thing I don't want. Third, the Empire may have had to make some concessions in the WGC, but there is no way in hell they'd allow a Thalmor army to march freely through their territory for any reason.

While I agree a sea invasion would have problems the logistic side isn't as bad as you think, in the kinds of wars you would see on earth during times relatively the same as in Skyrim armies used to live of the land they conquered. It would make sense for the same to be true in Tamriel, thus resources wouldn't be that big of a problem. Getting your troops there would still be difficult.

I don't think the Dominion would have the strength or supplies to make it to skyrim to invade, plus they have no idea how to navigate the treacherous waters of northern skyrim nor do the soldiers have any training to fend off the winters Skyrim has, it would nearly be a failed operation if the Thalmor invaded skyrim if either sides won.

True sons and daughters of Skyrim, don't wear heavy armour.

Er, hate to break this to you but so far the stormcloaks are really the only nord army in lore that wears only light armor, a ton of the armies of old had troops decked out in full clad armor, even before the empire was started.

In fact during the 5 year war when the Khajiit hired nord generals to teach them how to better fight the bosmer the generals were so use to using heavy armor that they suggested the Khajiit wear it in every battle.

The thalmor don't have an army any where near skyrim, and they'd have to march through cyrodiil to get there first. I doubt, even with the treaty, that Titus would allow that.

I wouldn't want to see that, either. As of right now, the Thalmor have to get through Hammerfell or Cyrodiil to get the Skyrim, so an invasion at this time would make no sense.

True, agree with that.

If you consider the beliefs of the Altmeri, then the last thing you'd want is a Thalmor victory. It'd literally mean the end of the world. And thus the end of the series. So I seriously doubt you'd ever be allowed to take their side and lead them to victory.

Hmm, but could it be interesting for bethesda to..scrap the empire totally?
On second thoughts, the idea's rather radical. :P

I'd actually like to see the canon ending for Skyrim see the Thalmor advancing their goals. For TES VI, I'd like to see the Thalmor continue their role as background bad guys. Perhaps a bit more of a looming threat than they were in Skyrim, but still not the primary threat, as they continue their work to weaken and break up the Empire. Then in TES VII (or later), I'd like to see the Thalmor on the cusp of achieving total victory. Of course, the plot of that game would be the overthrow of the Thalmor and preventing them from unmaking the world.

Love it. I would cry if they cram the Thalmor plot into a DLC or use Summerset Isles/Alinor as some expansion setting. It deserves so much more and as tech gets better imagine how beautiful it will all look in a few years time.
I do not want generic "high elf" stuff but the TES Altmer lore that is known represented visually as best as possible.
I'd like to see Summerset restored to its former glory without being led by the Thalmor. When I read the Rising Threat book I was really angry reading about the Tower.
