Traversing the U.S. in under a year, could be done easily..

we dont know exactly what is between the coasts... it could be all http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damnation_Alley_(film) for all we know between Chicago and the East coast. if thats the case making it cross country on foot would make for one hell of a walk sir

I miss Grampy bone's wisdom....

ED-E was being sent to Chicago from Navarro in California, ED-E broke down some where between Navarro and New Vegas and was delivered to Primm by some other courier. ED-E never made it to the East Coast. The Eye-bots on the East coast were brought along by the Enclave.

you got that all wrong.

ED-E was sent West from Adams air force base (the base at the end of broken steel) by Whitley.
He thought Navarro was still operational.

ED-E passed through an Enclave Encampment somewhere near Chicago
and broke-down somewhere between Chicago and Vegas (probably much closer to Vegas judging from the E3 trailer)

I'm fine with no FO3 characters being in NV.
What annoys me however, is the ludicrous notion that traveling from DC to Vegas in 4 years is somehow impossible.

Traversing the U.S. in under a year, could be done easily..
If an idea was dropped because of that misinformation, then that's really sad indeed.
Yeah, in a world where you don't have to cross Raider, Brotherhood, Legion and who knows who else's territory.

You could do it in a couple of years I suppose, but you'd have to be pretty tough. I can imagine someone like Desmond being able to travel great distances in the Wasteland.

ED-E must have delivered all the Wasteland Survival Guides.

exactly... massive plot hole, and own-goal on Obsidian's side. No-one can get to Vegas yet they have Wasteland Survival Guides? SOMEONE got to Vegas.

Well, not exactly. Caravans could have taken the text to Central America or something. There they could've been printed, and distributed between several caravans all the way to the West Coast. Not to mention, there are some basic e-mail possibilities. Sarah Weintraub for example, has e-mail and received e-mails from happy customers.

In theory, the text could have been e-mailed to the West Coast, printed there, and distributed in NCR territory. It's not really a plot hole.

so Moira is going to email text back west to be printed? Nah, don't buy it. Selling it to people in her store is one thing, selling a pile to a caravan is another, but selling it to people back west? How are they going to pay her? Wire transfer? lol Of course, she had to get it printed, so there is a chance the printers could have sent the text back west without her knowing.

The problem with continent-wide email systems is... well, there isn't any contact between east and west. Is there? The Enclave didn't know about the destruction of Navarro, and if anyone would have good comm systems it would be them.

i think some people are assuming, that because "the wasteland survival guide" has showed up in NV, the author, moira brown from FA3, isn't too far behind. i can see this causing rumors.
