I allways been a huge fan of bethesda , really like non linear RPG like morrowind and oblivion, also liked fallout 3 what is also a non linear rpg only in a different kinda setting.
So i bought this game and was really looking forward playing it.
trying to install i encounter my first problem , more a bit of an anoyance and that,s STEAM , after purchasing the game , it logs on to the STEAM server to download the game. with a bit bad luck to many people trying to download so you can,t download the game cause server is to bussy, and after buying a game i don,t mind to have to wait 15 min to install but i hate it when it takes 8 hours to download.
Got a pretty nice comp with a late G Force 8 series grapics card, only a 6 series needed, so expected no problems running this game , but everytime i try to use a gun as weapon or entering V.A.T.S my comp gets booted and i get an CPU overheating warning.
other recently released games like starcraft 2 i can run on ultra settings.
even when i set grapic settings to lowest it still have problems resulting in my comp getting rebooted.
this game is unplayable , when releasing a game make sure you release a bug and glitch free game ,WTF with all the patches.
Make sure you also provide direct X drivers required for playing this game as cd content.
And don,t force people to use steam just another program that eats away your memory, trying to keep my PC as clean as possible.
Overall this game doesn,t represent the quality i expect from a game developer like bethesda.

First of all, no game can be "glitch and bug free", especially a game as large as this. Fallout 3 had its share of glitches too.
and Second, they are working on another patch that should get a majority of the major bugs, just wait for it.
I, though, am having no problem whatsoever with FNV, I'm running it for multiple hours with no bugs or glitches. I guess I'm one of the "lucky" ones.

So everyone who doesn't agree that this is a great game needs to be locked out? This is a Bethesda forum and everyone has the right to express their dissatisfaction with one of their products if they so choose. It's not being run strictly for the fans, but for the critics as well. Anyone who buys a Bethesda game has the opportunity to express their opinion about one of their games, whether it's good or bad. Oh please. The BBB is going to do nothing about someone's complaint about a computer game, they'd never even contact Bethesda if they ever got one. If people are having problems with the game, then this forum is exactly the place they should be posting. It's run by Bethesda and no doubt read by them on a fairly regular basis. If there are problems with one of their titles, they'll know about it right away by posting here. And again, even the critics have the right to voice their opinions here, not just the fans.

If you don't want to read the thread, don't. If you don't think its worth commenting on, don't. Not commenting at all takes less time and effort than a pointless post.

If you believe there is a problem with a thread or post, use the report button and let the mods sort it out.

1. If you're installing off the disc and it's downloading the game then something is wrong. Try setting up Steam before you run the installer...that seems to have fixed this for other people.

2. Make sure all of your device drivers are up-to-date.

3. Steam doesn't use a significant amount of memory. Other games use some form of embedded DRM that use memory and do other nasty things. The only part about it I dislike is that I can't sell my game if I want to.

4. PC games often have issues with some configurations. If you look/post in the PC troubleshooting forum you can probably solve your issue(s) as well as rant. Please get the ranting out of your system, though, because too much of that just fills up the troubleshooting forums with noise that make it hard for others to exchange useful information.

If your CPU is overheating, it's not the game.

You mentioned the games GPU requirements and also noted that your GPU is above what is needed. However, you said that it was your CPU that was overheating. I don't know what CPU you have, or even what you need, but assuming it's as recent as your GPU, I would check the hardware. Maybe there's some dust in the way, perhaps some wires, maybe bad ventilation. If you'd scoot over to the New Vegas PC Issues forum and post your DXDIAG, maybe we can help.

Try not to rant too much over there.

I second this. A game should not be able to overheat your CPU if it's properly cooled.


Hehe...I have a lot more problems with my consoles than my PC games. YMMV. :shrug:

Please try play the game man, ive had my fair share of problems with it aswell, it freezes like once every two hours just like oblivion did. But its a great game i promise you try it out.

Ive got the ATI HD4890 and even that cant run the game on highest settings so you shouldnt be sad about your 8 series theyre getting old u know.

O.o How is that even possible? I have the HD4770 and play just fine on the highest settings at 1920x1080

Really now. Im playing on default and it was set to ultra 1280x1080 its playable but in some zones with lots of npcs its totally laggy. Any advice? Got the AMD Athlon II X4 655

he maybe talking about his GPU overheating i had an 8800gtx card and traded it in for a 4870 card since the 8800 card kept overheating even after spending 70 bucks on a after market cooler. 8XXX cards overheat if you play COD2 on them thats what mine used to do.

I really don't know what to tell you. I use Windows 7 64 Ultimate, the rest of my setup is in my signature. I'm just surprised that you can't run at max for some reason.

EDIT: I do use that dx9 dll for ati users from the nexus.

i get no slow downs at all and my set up is

4870 1 GB
Intel quad core 9550
3.3 GB of ram
i am playing at 1920x1080 with everything on max

have you tried to get new drivers and i ended up putting in the FO3 Quad Core fixes into the FONV fallout.ini file and it fixed my crashing every 2 hours
