I mean, yea, but I really doubt that suburban white women are regularly naming their kids Yoshi, unless, well, you know...

Somehow one of the names on the best baby names list was Bing. Like the search engine.

What I find ironic about that article is that they ask if you would name your child Princess Peach or Yoshi. Yoshi is in fact a real name used in Japan. I have a children's book I've had since 1988, and the illustrator was a woman named Yoshi. Such ignorance.

As for the child in question, yeah, I think it's a bit much.

Drop the Princess and Peach is actually "somewhat" common to. Or Peaches even.

Frankly, I quite like it.

I'm in agreement with a comment underneath the article.

Not to mention they picked the name in the spirit of a fun contest and really don't deserve to bring up MSN homepage only to find they're being called stupid on a national level. I think that's completely uncalled for.

Nothing better to write about out there huh?

Big deal about nothing!

I kind of hope he or she was born in some African or Asian Country.. I don't want people to make fun of this kid for her being The Dragonborn of Legend.. Maybe she could be adopted into some Indus culture..

Just imagine..

"...but you can call me... Tim?"

It'll be shortened or he'll go by a middle name. Someone named their kids Lemonjello and Orangejello (pronounced as though they were french or something) along with poophead (using the most common curse word in place of poop) and playing with the pronunciation. Dovahkiin is no big deal.

I hope every instructor this child has will instinctively call on him by "Tom" during roll call and not his first name. Poor guy.

I don't know. Twenty years from now no one will remember the game called Skyrim, let alone what Dovahkiin means. It will just be an exotic name, no weirder than the crazy names celebrities give their children. The kid will be fine.

dno about that
I remember plenty of famous videogame characters and references from the 80's
people who're really into this game will probably remember it 20 years from now
his luck though is that none of those will be in his generation since any1 playing the game is at least 10 years older than him

i think it's an awesome name though
if I knew any1 by this name I'd be shouting it all the time
would NEVER say it in a normal tone or voice

It's okay if he's Russian, that's about the only scenario where I can find this name to be...fitting.

lol Dovakhin is actually pretty sweet...better than Blanket or Prince.

Or Kadaj, or Sephiroth.

Yes those are actually names given to 2 babies.

Old, but...

That kid is either going to be a total BA or he'll be the quietest, most emotionally distraught and picked-on kid in school.

this is my bet that contest was better not won.

Too bad when the kid start school NONE of his classmates will get the reference and most likely never will until some old gamer on the forums mentions it to him. Shoulda named him COD that will still be around in 4-6 years.

Well at least the parents have an easy costume for Halloween coming up. Give their baby a warrior outfit, mom dresses up as a dragon and the dad dresses up as a Greybeard.
