Better to be named that than say, "Blanket" or "Apple", but who's going to take that seriously on a resume?

Thats terrible.

Old, but...

That kid is either going to be a total BA or he'll be the quietest, most emotionally distraught and picked-on kid in school.

I don't know. Twenty years from now no one will remember the game called Skyrim, let alone what Dovahkiin means. It will just be an exotic name, no weirder than the crazy names celebrities give their children. The kid will be fine.

I was named after a book character, but thankfully the name is shared by millions worldwide, so it isn't an issue. But being given such an odd name, without my approval (obviously) after a video game that will be horribly outdated by the time I grow up, and maybe even deep forgotten in the annals of history... no thanks. I prefer my overly average Yahweh-is-gracious.

Meh, there are far worse names out there.

Fact is, especially by the time the kid grows up, most people won't have a clue what it refers to, and will just assume it's from some foreign language.

What I find ironic about that article is that they ask if you would name your child Princess Peach or Yoshi. Yoshi is in fact a real name used in Japan. I have a children's book I've had since 1988, and the illustrator was a woman named Yoshi. Such ignorance.

As for the child in question, yeah, I think it's a bit much.

It's okay if he's Russian, that's about the only scenario where I can find this name to be...fitting.

This, exactly this. His generation won't have heard of Dovahkiin or probably even Skyrim. To them, it will just sound like a cool name. The only people who might get it are the parents, and they'd be dikes if they made fun of the kid's name.

This.

I think it's dumb, but "Dovahkiin" isn't exactly the most well known reference in the world, especially in a half decade and beyond when people have forgotten about Skyrim.

I mean, yea, but I really doubt that suburban white women are regularly naming their kids Yoshi, unless, well, you know...

If I were him? "It's Norse for 'the one who devours the souls of the dragons he kills by himself'."

I'd like to see somebody [censored] with him after that.

The name doesn't matter, what are the parents gonna do with a life-time supply of games from Beth? That's too scary... more so if they're for PS3 :S
