What are these fiends we keep hearing about?

In some of the previews we keep hearing about fiends, are they a new enemy or just a gang name?

With a bit of luck, we'll get a screen in the next game guide diary. Aren't we about due for one of those, anyways?

Seriously? SRIRIOUSLY!?! A feind is a evil person or animal. Every time its brought up it most likely refer to dangerous enenies in general.

Fiend isn't a commonly used word. While it does mean "bad person/creature" in general, the fact that it's being used suggests something specific.

I was going to say the exact same thing. . more or less.

"Who the hell uses "Fiend" nowadays?" odds are, there is a specific enemy in the game called a "fiend". that or someone loves using outdated words to throw us off :P

One of the previews mentions a fiend camp, I don't know about you but if that's supposed to refer to bandits or slavers than why not just call it a bandit/slaver camp. Your interpretation of the word fiend here would be just as stupid as calling a slaver camp a boogeymen camp or a cad camp.

Fiend probably means some sort of gang, but I'm hoping it's a new enemy.

EDIT: it's from the second blog about the FNV http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/09/21/fallout-new-vegas-official-strategy-guide-blog-crafty-beggars-living-off-the-land-and-on-the-lam/, here's the quote:

Or the most potent poisons with which to coat your melee weapon, and charge head-long into that Fiend encampment you’ve been wanting to ransack

I think they're a gang of some sort or a very intelligent animal. It said in some interview that you could coat your weapon with poison and attack a Fiend encampment, so it seems like they're either human or intelligent like the Talking Deathclaws.

Maybe the mutated FEV finally mutated some animal to be somewhat intelligent.
Maybe it's still in a caveman phase but still, somewhat intelligent.

Also "Fiend" is capitalized both times it is used, indicating it isn't just the generic usage.

Correct, this has been blown way out of what they ment. The Fiend encampent is surley to mean that enemy encampment. So.... it would be more like

That enemy encampment that you wanted to ransack.

that or you are misleading yourself, and you will feel pretty silly when the next enemy revealed is a Fiend. lol.

Honestly, no one knows, but to assume you know the truth, and try to actively discredit others because of your own disbelief, is rather .. inappropriate! :P

I really do think they made a creature called a Fiend. but I don't know for a fact.

I'm also curious as to why "Fiend" was capitalized. It could mean enemies collectively. But the fact that encampments were mentioned denotes something intelligent (as was mentioned here). Name of a gang? Rascist ghoul slang? Or a human-like enemy similar to PO's hillbillies - an outcast group of deformed and/or deranged humanoids.

Insane cannibals whose camp is riddled with body parts and blood?
That sounds "Fiend-ish"
