Gethlaed - pure mage, servant of virtue, champion of the weak and the helpless, enemy of the cruel and the violent - has just returned home to his beloved Whiterun after an epic journey through new lands. For the first time ever he entered the city of Solitude, which he found to be just too grim and oppressively dark for his tastes, not to mention infested with crawling Imperial lackeys - that place is not for him. There is little to ever attract him back there; the Bard's College is just too trivial to even bother with, and the Temple of the Divines is a gross affront to mighty Talos. Gethlaed isn't even a Nord, but he is deeply religious and finds the Solitudians' willingness to profane the Gods just to please their overlords quite repellant. (Solitudian? Is that acceptable?) He did meet and immediately take to the local alchemist, a decent woman indeed, but he is unlikely to see her again any time soon.
After leaving the dark and ugly Solitude, he struck out along the coast to the last city he had yet to visit - Dawnstar. What a dump! It's barely more impressive than Riverwood, and rather less attractive. It is a free Nord settlement, at least, which has come to mean a lot to Gethlaed. After seeing everything the place had too offer in a very short time, it was back home to Whiterun for a good long sleep - along the way being met by a courier, with word of a mysterious source of power some way to the west. He'll investigate that next, although he longs to spend more time in the east with the people he has come to call his own.
Lydia has been released from her duties for the night. She needs her sleep too.
