What are your main worries for Brink?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:00 am

I know this is probably a bit pessimistic, but what do people think could go wrong with this game?
I think the way the game blends all of it's modes may confuse some people and put them off, but that's about it.
Anyone else?

People may not work as a team...and just go off and do their own thing.

Lets be honest, Borderlands was pretty good, their engine was actually pretty well made and the art style was pretty cool. But we're not here to talk about that. My main worries are repetitivity, playing in the same games with the same circumstances and the same map gets boring after a while, and team work(if ppl use it) can sometimes change that, as when a team works together its a new aspect of gameplay. Another worry is OP gear and weps and the such the usual stuff, OP combos(like MW2) and such of that like. I think from what ive seen tho that they seem to have found a fix those problems with the archetype selection being related to weapons available. Although They need to find a way to not let the fast guys be the main player and add some major benefits to those playing the beef.

The problem with tf2 was that it got boring after some time, the only thing that keeps me playing it are updates, but they started to svck recently. I hope there won't be such problems in Brink and there gotta be updates after some time, it's essential.

The only thing I'm worried about are the maps/parts of the ark, that you end up playing over too much. I like how each "map" is more of a slice of the story, but if you end up playing the same mission over again I would get both frustrated and bored. We really still don't know if there is going to be a server list to find certain missions you'd enjoy playing over again, it would just really svck if the game would keep connecting you to the mission you're stuck on.

If you are playing through storymode, you will have to keep playing the mission you are stuck on until you complete it. But you don;t have to play it online. If you are stuck on a mission, get somefriends and play coop against bots - or just play standard missions, where you can play any map any time.

I also know that PC will have server lists, it's console I'm not sure about.

Not really...there's no DM or TDM, no killstreaks, no stats or leaderboards, the only gametype is team objective, no throwing knives, no one-hit guns, snipers aren't nearly as strong, no one-hit knife kills, it promotes teamwork over killing, it is taking steps to eliminate boosting, padding and lone wolfing...if anything, this is a COD players worst nightmare.

My main worry?

I'm excited about playing the game but the last time I played MP FPSs all that much was in 2000 or 2001 so chances are I'm really going to svck when it comes to competition :D

they're not really focusing on skill trees, like how D2 has, it's more like you just purchase whatever skills are available to you - I don't think it will be like, I have to put 3 skills in here to gain access to this. Also, you don't use every skill you purchase. You can only use so many during a match.

Also, the maps may not be small, but they won't be huge and wide open. They are focusing on fast paced, 8v8 infantry only gameplay, and the maps will reflect this.

- a concern I have is that people will play this game, and be so used to COD and BF, that they will say "this game svcks!" and the moan, moan, moan, to the point that the devs wind up patching things that weren't broken....I doubt this would happen, but I would hate it if it did.

My main concern is that a player might not be able to attain full health without the help of a medic.

Another main one is that the operative might actually be able to be seen by enemy operatives, regardless of interrogation or not.

The next is that friendly fire might default to off (per a post I read by jamieson or w/e).

Next, if a player cannot reach full health, the light body type may not be able to fully regenerate, thus leaving him open to one shot kills.

My greatest fear is that heavies will camp. (on my team or the enemy's)

Fighting will be frontline-centric (ie flanking skill goes out the door, 99% of all encounters are down a corridor, enemies will camp down all other routes into the base)

There will not be enough flanking routes.

I don't mind players following me, but it is more effective if the team splits up and flanks from all sides instead of wasting men via medic pairs. By this trail of thought, maybe there will only be at most two fights at once (because 2 of each class is recommended unless you can really do without two of another).

My main worry for Brink is that it is going to be a
Light "The anger" archetype operative fan boy club.

which hopefully subside after a few days.

other then that it looks grand!

They won't be able to....just like in previous SD games. If they could, what's the point of a medic?

Another main one is that the operative might actually be able to be seen by enemy operatives, regardless of interrogation or not.
They can. Operatives can detect when enemy operatives are disguised. Although, it might be a skill that needs to be purchased.

I think it does, but it does in Bad Company 2 as well. If you want it on, just play games that have it enabled. (like I will be doing)

Next, if a player cannot reach full health, the light body type may not be able to fully regenerate, thus leaving him open to one shot kills.
It's already been stated that Lights have really low health. A knife slash will one-hit kill a Light without a health buff, but not a medium or heavy.

My greatest fear is that heavies will camp.
If you were built like a brick [censored]house, and were slow, would you move around a lot or stay in one spot? Camping hasn't really been a problem in previous SD games, and I don't see it happening here. If heavies camp, I see them camping near the objective, (which is appropriate) acting like human turrets. Besides, if you're playing a light, climb up and around them - and theres always a camper in every game, and I don't thnk body type will matter.

Fighting will be frontline-centric (ie flanking skill goes out the door, 99% of all encounters are down a corridor, enemies will camp down all other routes into the base)
What 'base' are you talking about? This isn't capture the flag...and the fighting is usually frontline-centric, as it will probably be centered around the objective at hand.

There will not be enough flanking routes.
it's only 8v8...how much flanking do you plan on doing? Besides, with the objectives, medics staying close to drop health and revive, soldiers dropping ammo, plus all the side missions....this isn't a "flank the enemy and spawn camp them till they all die" game. That beibng said, there will be flanking routes, usually accessed by a soldier destroying a barricade and accessing a shortcut.

By this trail of thought, maybe there will only be at most two fights at once (because 2 of each class is recommended unless you can really do without two of another).
there you go with the flanking again...it's an objective game - the battle is going to be centered at the objective at hand, so why split up, since you all should be at the same point anyway...

I suppose my biggest worry is community.

Then again that's usually the biggest problem in every game isn't it?
Always the odd mong that drops in to ruin everyone's day.
Always the odd mong that team kills for "lols".
Always the odd mong.

I'm also getting the feeling there will be plenty of light operatives from the Resistance running amuck. I would tend to agree on team cooperation, but in any game you will find those who do not wish to play like a team, so I'm not expecting much there.
