What changes after the civil war?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:05 pm

Hey guys. I'm curious about something. I'm doing the civil war quest for the first time (technically, the first time I ran into the Legate Rikke bug and had to make a new character since it wouldn't fix itself), and I was wondering what happens after the legion wins the war? I assume Ulfric is killed, but what happens to Windhelm? The Dark Elves in Windhelm? The Grey Manes? Do they react differently or die? What about Elisif? Does she become high queen? Does dialogue that used to reference the civil war change accordingly? I'm curious because if these things do change I want to finish these quests right away to see the differences. If not, I may just not bother for now.

not a whole lot changes. some jarls get replaced and city guards get replaced. thats about it

moral of the story: civil war = douchebags vs douchebags. aka lose/lose situation.

So...none of the things I mentioned change at all? Seriously? Elisif isn't even the high queen? Do people at least act as though it's over?

elisif does not take high queen. the completion of the quest does open up some minor dialog options (can't remember them all) but if you are looking for a meaningful or dramatic change to people's lives, you won't find it.

mostly what i remember feeling after finishing the civil war was just that i had wasted time fighting for some douches (and i did both sides separately)

That's.....sort of pathetic...to me at least.....is there at least a clear reason she doesn't become high queen? Does she mention it?

regardless, if you've already started this campaign, i would suggest finishing it early on. because the loot you get from it will be next to useless the longer you wait (it's pretty low-level stuff)

There's some new dialouge for some characters. I know there was some at least in Windhelm after an Imperial victory. The Nords who liked Ulfric like the priestess of Talos and the one blacksmith lament his death. The Dunmer and Argonians are happy that their situations might improve as a result of the Imperial victory. Other NPCs might have no dialouge at all or say the change of hands wasn't a big deal to them.

You don't even get decent loot? I care about the story more, but that apperently is shoddy too....so this questline is pretty much a bust, isn't it?

I suppose, but it would be nice to see that happen now that the only real competition is out of the way. All of the jarls support the empire now anyway

Am I just over reacting or is this all a bit of a let down? Haha

Well at least I wont have to deal with racist stormcloaks anymore, so it isn't all bad

IMO it's only something you do if you absolutely want to squeeze out every ounce of playability from the game or if for whatever reason your beliefs align perfectly with the faction-of-choice's beliefs. otherwise it's not worth the bother. (in the end i chose to betray both sides, because i dislike them both almost equally)

How do you betray both sides? I'm pro-imperial 100% but my current character is from the Aldmeri Dominion. That would be awesome to work against both sides

Personally I loved the main quest except that you can't kill the blades at the end. I hated them for what they tried to make you do. Anyway, why did you think it was a let down? The civil war thing really dissapoints me now....I expected more from Bethesda...

I suppose the let-down for me was how easy the final battle with Alduin was. But the quest itself was fine - its the journey thats imortant, i suppose, not the destination.

Sorry if my typings crazy, my keyboard is wrapped in plastic to protect it from the imps. (kids)

Haha no worries. I'm typing on my phone, as I usually am. You're correct, the fight was pretty laughable. I know I could just have turned up the difficulty but thats not the point: an elder dragon still would have given me more trouble than alduin. I also would have hoped they would have delved deeper into the whole "maybe the world is supposed to end concept" they touched upon, but all in all I really liked it. The civil war quest is rediculous to me though....the "effects" at least, chiefly because there barely are any

Well I guess to put it into words , it's all very epic the first time and you're gripped to your screen for hours (instead of sleeping damn you beth) then all the sudden it's just...... over.

The guards still talk about sweetrolls and al the other slightly beligerant stuff like fetching mead for the companions etc.For both sides you become slightly higher than just a plain officer in the faction supposedly , but there's no different reactions anywhere I've seen. The leaders , omfg , after all you went through seeing it to a conclusion they're now suddenly done with you and bam you''re out the door doing whatever you were doing before becoming embtoiled in their problems. This is ironically very real-world for me , you can lose your legs in service to your country , they fix you up and dump you back home cya.

But one can hope the open-ended feel to this is on purpose as no matter which side you're on the Jarls still have to convene a moot to decide the next high king. It's not necessarily ullfric if he lives either but highly likely if you chose stormcloaks.Remember you've learned no mater what race you've played in the game or what your views are , you know skyrim is home to the Nords. You learn they almost ended every elf alive in their sphere of power to do so , they're even more hated by the Thalmor than the Empire is.Skyrim is highly valued for their strong warriors , it does niether side any good to weaken it especially right now.

So take your pick , do the storylines the way you want to but as of right now there is no glory to be had in this war period.Man fighting man is a bad idea no matter what your beliefs are in this land of hard survival with some Nazi [censored] elves breathing down your neck sniffing for any weakness. With this point of view , Ullfric makes absolutely no sense in the best surival option to man , and he's just flat-out nuts. But that's a Nords' uncompromising approach to EVERYTHING , he's chosen his stance and by god that's the way it is.His own people would probably turn on him if he backed down at this point , he started the snowball down the hill , now it's getting too big and too fast.
