I called my father from my dorm room and said, "Hey, can I have 70 bucks?" The rest, as they say, is history.

This may seem trivial from I have read so far but I sacrificed extra cups of coffee. From the point in time when the Collectors edition was announced I went to my game store and paid 20 bucks towards the game and had my last cup of extra coffee. Meaning I brewed my own. Then whenever I was near the store I would take that unspent coffee money and make a payment towards the game. Granted I had the foresight to put money away for something I wanted, I am also at the stage in my life where I no longer go out and buy every game I like. It just costs too much and in the end I do not have time to get into everyone of them completely let alone finish. Again what I "sacrificed" was trivial.

Unfortunately you said cannot just get up and go to the store, but you have the right frame of mind in going after a game like Fallout New Vegas and making the investment now. Like you said the game will take you a while to finish, or even get to a point in which you want to switch to another game. The point is you can now buy that different game at a reduced price used if you don't mind such things.

Consider this. I like Mass Effect. I have not finished it. So then why would I go out and buy the second one at full price when I have not finished the first? Because I don't need it! It would be nice, but then so is waiting a year to play other games and do other things so when I decide to continue the story of Sheppard it will only cost me about 25 bucks and not 60. So I guess you could say I sacrificed all those expensive games I really did not need to play but would like to.

I can only afford to buy games occasionally. The last one I bought was Fallout 3. and the next one I buy will probably be Fallout 4. Poor ole me.... :violin:

I remember when games cost £1.99 on cassette tape heheheh

If I had to trade in that many games just to get one I would wait until the game was cheaper instead.

Agreed. Sorry but Gamestop rips you off crazy on trade ins. All those games together aren't worth $50 you should have found another way to get $50. Ask your parents, etc. It's also good to save up money like the others said.

I used the gift card I got from amazon for preordering Red Dead Redemption for some of it and for the rest I sold some garbage to my neighbors at a garage sale. I came up a bit short and was considering trading in some stuff, but a friend lent me the rest.

I made my wife mad and spent the money.... She is going to be even more mad when I do it again next Tuesday with Fable III, though that is going to sit on the shelf while I invest the next month into NV.

So, i had to trade in 6 games just to get 50 dollars worth of trading credit.
Call of duty 4
Call of Duty: Mw2
Halo odst
Halo 3
Fallout 3!!!! :(
and Battlefield bad company 2.

I know some of you dont have to worry about money but for the people who do, what did you sacrifice or have to do to get NV?

http://www.hulu.com/watch/1389/saturday-night-live-dont-buy-stuff

I didn't buy a 360 when it came out. I didn't end up making a purchase until April of 08, just over two years after it came out. Since then my game collection has grown. I didn't buy Fallout 3 when it came out. I hadn't played the franchise before and didn't know what to expect. this time around, I saved up for the CE in advance along with the CE strat guide. I haven't had to trade in any game I own, and I have a rotation where I still find myself playing almost all of the games I own at one point or another. You really have no one else to blame but yourself that you traded all these games in. Fallout NV wasn't going anywhere. It also didn't come out of no where either. You have known about it for some time.

Acquire 60$ in a year. Mowing lawns at 5$ a week isn't a good source of income... :/

I paid £37 for it. The gub'mint gives me money.

(I've earned enough from past work to keep me in games and train tickets anyway though)

Fortunately I don't do a whole lot of shopping for myself, so buying the occasional game isn't too much of a hit. I've finished paying off my new computer (which, yes, I built myself, so yay for saving money!), so I'm in the clear again. :D

Wow you traded in all that? I wouldn't want to trade in other incredible games like FO3 for a new game. I just saved up for a little while.

It's not "the government" but "us taxpayers". Guess they should reduce the amount.
