I know some of you dont have to worry about money but for the people who do, what did you sacrifice or have to do to get NV?

Nothing, to be honest with ya.

I have a monthly allotment of $50 (limit myself to 1 game or what I can get for $50) and I try not to exceed that. When a month doesn't have a game in it, I put the money away for months where there are multiple games coming out at the same time. NV is a good investment because it can keep my attention for multiple months, and for the remainder of the year, the only game that I might be interested (HL2 : Episode III) may or may not be coming out. But Feb/Mar/Apr all have at least 1 game per month I'm interested in. So I'll be saving money in November and January for games during those months.

We all sacrifice for our art (games), just to varying degrees, I guess.

yeah im to young to get a job or something and im disabled so i cant really move around to work and get an allowance. but you are 100% correct when you say it can keep your attention for the rest of the year. what did they say it has like 200 hours off playing time or something like that??

If I had to trade in that many games just to get one I would wait until the game was cheaper instead.

I had to wait the few months after I pre-ordered it. That was @#&^$%$ in itself.

I'm sure someone who takes their time in the game and looks for all locations, secrets, main/side quests could spend even more than that. Plus the game holds a lot of replayability to it.

I think you'll get a lot of bang for your buck with this game.

I am lucky enough to be able to afford to buy the games I want and keep them, but back when I couldn't, I would have just waited. I personally don't like to trade in games becuase I like to go back to games I haven't played in years even and run through them again. By the time I decide that I don't want a game anymore it's usually too low in trade in value anyway, and on the offchance that I do sell a game, I usually sell it on ebay for a value somewhere inbetween what EB would pay for it and what they would charge for it, meaning it's a win win for me and the end buyer. Personally though I don't like to fuel the used game market if I can afford not to. If I did trade in a game at all, it's probably because I really didn't like it and don't mind the publisher missing out on a sale because of it.

As far as replay value and length...

I played through Fallout 3 once as a Male character focused on sneak attacks and speech checks (think your typical RPG rogue), and later I created a female character for another playthrough, and went with a brute-force type setup. The first playthrough wound up being very vats intensive and forced me to be judicious in my companion and equipment choices. The second had me spending most of my time shooting in real time and double teaming people with the precision gatling laser and fawkes. It was quite literally like playing two entirely different games.

I'm sorry you had to trade in your ODST. That game is one of my favorite games to have come out for 360.

For me, the money wasn't an issue. I'm an advlt with a full time job.

But that doesn't mean there's no sacrifices.

First off, I refuse to blow off a lot of money on video games. Like one poster above, I limit my self. I will be picking up WoW: Cataclysm in December. I only wanted to pick up two games this 4th quarter, and there's many coming out I would like. I picked Fallout and WoW instead of picking the new Halo, Medal of Honor, the new COD, and/or Fable 3.

I'm also sacrificing the 100+ hours of time it will consume of my life =) I could put that time to more constructive things like helping my business.

Luckily, one thing that is not being sacrificed is my relationship. My girlfriend got it for PC so she can play on the computer while I'm playing on the Xbox. Everyone wins!

I'm still sacrificing. I already gave 100 dollars for the pre-order CE online, and now it's delayed so my patience is just being murdered. I have to resolve some issues with a credit card. Thankfully an Amazon.com representitive waived the "One-day" shipping fees so it's only $85 but my day is already ruined. I just feel tired mentally and physically and I just woke up a few hours ago...too much waiting man.

I don't buy a lot of games anymore, even this time of year, so the money wasn't an issue for me. My only sacrifice was having to stand around at Walmart last nigh for half an hour while they got their act together. There were five or six people there, but only three of us wanted Fallout. But first they didn't have the game out on the floor, so they had to go get that. Then they came back and said they had it but it turned out they didn't. Then they went back and this time finally got it. Then it turned out the 360 version had a $5 gift card and they didn't have any gift cards at the register and had to call a manager for them. Then it turned out some other people in line wanted other games, including a 360 game I've never even heard of (and neither had the clerk). And then some guy threw a fit because all he wanted was the new Predators movie on DVD. Seriously, you needed that at midnight? I finally got my game and left.

I did get the preorder bonus (packed in with the game) and the deck of cards though. :celebration:

I had a gift card for gamestop and used that in part with money I get from a job I work on Sundays (a job that is nice to have so the money my wife and I make at our full time jobs can go to important things like our due-in-5-months baby).

I love gift cards. And having a 5 hour per week job that allows me to pay for my video game habit :hubbahubba:

I have 33 dollars left to pay for the special edition from Gamestop. I most likely will have to trade in an ass load of games including my coveted Red Dead Redemption.

Well, i did install a DVD-drive to a relatives computers, which netted me money that covers the costs of the game, but i could've afforded it without it too.

I installed Steam and I am feeling that my soul will be burning in hell for it.

...I've been waiting for new vegas since it was announced back in February. But the game comes out on Friday, I currently have 40pound sitting in my bank. Now, there's this party that me and a few friends have been planning for around 6 month coming on the following Saturday. Now basically there are a lot of people going to be there and so is my future girlfriend to be problem is my best jeans have a hole in them, 40pound will replace them

...So its either look my best at the party or get New Vegas. Arghhh

Sold some college books on ebay. I only needed 40 bucks since I still had the free 20 bucks credit from halo reach on amazon.
