Sorry
He is just so arrogant and cocky and all the other Year 9s thik he's cute
God knows why

There's always one. He's a little kid. They're usually nothing but. Just let it slide, it's good practice to learn to handle your anger, particularly anger aimed at wee children O_o

Kids just do things like that. He'll get older and realize it's silly. You're going to be dealing with difficult people your whole life. You might as well get used to it. :)

That was pretty common several hundred years ago. Retro.

Just pilot your steamships up to his house and demand that he open up for trade.

You remember back when you were a little kid and said something incredibly stupid and didn't realize it until years later and started kicking yourself for it? That's not what's happening here. His dad really is a ninja. :ninja:

This annoying rich kid at school boasts that his dad is a ninja just because he owns several katanas and nunchuks. (spelling?)
I'm quite sure you are not a ninja just if you own some weapons associated with ninjas.
So what does it mean to be a true ninja?

his dad ought to beware of pens -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcZd-ql7t1I

Ninjas are long gone though.

http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/12/wikileaks-cable-iran-ninja-assassins :P

OP your friends dad isn't Iranian is he?

On a more serious note there are people who do practice ninjutsu (other than Iranians). Though some of it is historic reenactment much like those who practice sword skills of knights and such and some actually practice it as a valid martial art and have actual dojos to go along with them.

OP there is only one sure fire way to know if your friends dad is a ninja

If he can do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G01NYx0_XMw#t=07m55s then he is definitely a ninja

To be a covert agent/mercenary in Feudal Japan. Pretty much a modern day spy/assassin is a ninja.

Also, this man cannot be a ninja unless he is a double ninja agent of death who publicly gives away his identity but others believe its too foolish to take seriously so he is doubted and ignored, while being a ninja.
Also to add, ninjas did not use katanas, as that belonged only to the samurai, and nunchucks are Hollywood made famous by Bruce Lee.

The old ninja used weapons that were more defensive based, as a way to not die and escape.

According to the Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge manual, being a true ninja entails the following:

At least 12 strength, 10 intelligence, 10 piety, 12 vitality, 12 dexterity, and 12 speed. In addition, the ninja must be skilled in using wands and daggers, swords, axes, maces and flails, poles and staves, throwing weapons, slings, bows, shields, and unarmed combat. General skills of the ninja include stealth, picking pockets, lock-picking and disarming traps, as well as being able to scout. A true ninja must also be proficient in using artifacts, using magical scrolls, mythology, alchemy, and kirijutsu.

From what I understand Ninjas didnt use katanas most of their weapons where simple farm tools like a sickle.

In Sunderland, I believe a broken beer bottle is the weapon of choice. :P

It's a shinobigatana, a straight sword with a squared tsuba -handguard, that could actually be used as a step up against a wall if needed..

Ninjas were assassins with no code of honor, simple as that. They would probably have used guns and other modern, practical weaponry/tools given the choice.

The best preserved information concerning shinobi is collected in the Bansenshukai. An online version exists here

http://www.ninpo.org/historicalrecords/bansenshukai.html

-this site is waaay better than the other link I gave :)

edit:
I, of course, have no prior knowledge of what I just posted ;)

So what does it mean to be a true ninja?

There are those who buy black clothes, shurikens, spikes, katanas, and all manner of cumbersome items... but they are not ninja. :toughninja:

There are those who compete in gameshows like Ninja Warrior, displaying incredible feats of strength and agility... but they too are not ninja. :batman:

There are those who practice ninjutsu, who train for years and are adept martial artists... but they are not ninja either. :banghead:

The true ninja is a desperate man of a low caste who will lie in a ditch of mud and things more foul for a day and a half to wait for his mark to arrive. They don't wear black, since it stands out even in the darkness, but rather take on the guise of whatever peasants live nearby - farmers, fishermen, household retainers, travelling entertainers, and other servants. They are as patient as the sea, their conviction as hard as the mountain, their actions as soft and swift as the wind. They do not believe in honor, and will use any means necessary to carry out their orders. Foremost they were spies for the daimyo, used to find and take advantage of any weakness in enemy defences, striking with confusion and disarray as their weapons. They are not invulnerable warriors, they simply attack where their enemy cannot respond, and thus avoid being drawn into a direct conflict.

They are masters of unconventional warfare, nothing more and nothing less. :ninja:
