What Feature Trips Your Trigger

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:11 pm

Ill more than likely be playing in 3rd person sooooo, its cool I guess, but now that the third person is accurate, I dont need first person, and play more RPGs!!!!! Their good for your health man.......Also, I dont see how iron sights makes it a cross between a shooter and an RPG, for it to be similar to a shooter, you would need some "badass" cough cough. With a chainsaw on his gun and a incredibly linear gameplay experience.

As for a "feature" Id have to say hardcoe mode, and the vast expansion of our weapons pallete, and as for the history of Fallout, Id just look it up on wiki, that involves wayyy to much typing.

It doesnt MAKE it a shooter, just makes the two closer in relation, but If I wanted JUST a shooter, I would be on The Black Ops forum right about meow... And I hate 3rd person RPGs, especially the magical ones, I feel more rooted in reality with a RPG that could feesibly occur, but once again that is just me. A different taste for every tongue

Grenade Machine Gun :gun:

That gun looks so beastly! Looks like it could make short work of a S.M. behemoth. Now I'm wondering what enemies were made to stand up to weaponry like that.

In all seriousness, the poisoning of weapons.

the behemoth is probably made to stand up to it, other than that the sentry bot, oh! i know! theres supposed to be a lake full of monsters near Hoover Dam, they might be able to tough that thing out

Enemy attacks you with a weapon that does 25 damage.

20% DR let's 20 dmg through.
20 DT on the other hand let's 5 dmg through.

DR takes away a certain % while DT nullifies a set part of the damage completely.

With a DR only system every enemy will still do harm to you even in a Power Armor.
But with the DT system only high-level enemies with great weapons or stuff like deathclaws has the chance of doing harm to you.

I DO really like that, because it will be great fun to sit in a big fat suit of armor while geckos harmlessly chomp at me.
As opposed to fallout 3 where dogs could chew though my armor and maul me if I did the same.

But I have to say crafting is my favorite feature, I just can't wait to make my own bullets, and add value to the various skins and meats I find.

Have to remember that no matter the threshold, some amount (20% iirc) of damage will always go through this time around.

Hmm...

24DT
Enemy attack 20
5 dmg goes through.

24DT
Enemy attack 25
1 dmg goes through.

Great balance...

There was a discussion of the subject in Obs boards with Josh some time ago. I think the system was that there was a minimum damage (x0.2) that always went through, and nothing below. I'll check if I find you a quote...

EDIT - Actually it was from this board afterall... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112712-damage-threshold/page__view__findpost__p__16328985

This is the very straightforward explanation of Damage Threshold: DT is subtracted from a weapon's listed DAM, but a weapon will never do less than MinDam (in our case, 20%) of its listed damage.

Gabriel77Dan: That'd be 5 damage for the 24 DT/Attack 20 and 5 damage for the 24 DR/Attack 25, not 5 damage for the one with the lower damage and 1 for the one with the higher damage.

Heh, kinda funny how some of the people that played the original games seem almost offended, if not then at least very eager to correct, when someone mentions a feature from past games and calls it "new"

However, the topic title is (laymans terms) Favorite feature in New Vegas. Nothing about "new"

And even then, If someone has only played FO3, then factions, NCR, gun mods, etc, ARE new features. Honestly, people who are so quick to correct seem almost rabidly cynical. I mean, its cool that y'all apparently played the old games religiously, but.. meh. whatever, lol. I guess since this is the official boards for fallout, there are going to be a handful of "hardcoe fans". But thats cool. just try not to seem so condescending to newer fans of the series. Then again, that's just how I'm perceiving it. I'm probably wrong, and I'm seriously sorry if that's the case.

It just seems when you correct people about things so trivial as features in a game being new to them, it seems unnecessarily condescending.

At any rate, now that I got that (probably unwarranted) rant off my chest...

My favorite feature of New Vegas would probably have to be the amount of variety. Now not only can you choose to play on hardcoe mode, but we also get at least twice as many weapons as FO3, crafting, and also more quests. I'm super excited about all the variety. It just seems a lot more open-ended... and FO3 was already pretty open-ended. I'm pretty excited :D

I guess it's partly due to old fans being labeled as fossils and stuck in the past, when they (I being one of them) griped at the lack of these now "new" and praised features when Fallout 3 came. :P

To be honest, the main feature that's getting me excited is the fact that we've got former Black Isle folks working on it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bethesda, but I'm not a fan of Emil Pagliarulo's writing, at least not in the context of the Fallout world (I wasn't hugely impressed in Oblivion, either). Having writers who are more familiar with the setting will be a welcome change.

snippity snip

I agree, seems that way sometimes, but heck they have been flying the flag long enough that they don't want to see an occult cult game turn into mainstream modern trailer trash cult game...

This being said, I respect the old Fallouts, and no Ole Dog is gonna keep me from playing what I want and saying what I want... GO FALLOUT!!!
