True, but I feel like I could explain so much better in a video than I could in text. Also a lot of people may be intimidated if I have a HUGE post describing level design and many may shy away from reading it or think they don't have time. Whereas people would be much more likely to listen to a 10 minute video of me speaking about it.

Well, hop to it then! :P

Ill be expecting a tutorial vid on dungeons tomorrow, that is all!

I'm getting ready to do my first tutorial, on LOD, now. I think I've got the recording stuff all set up. I just need to figure out all the steps and have them in front of me so I don't forget anything and I'll record. Hopefully this comes out well and you guys enjoy it.

NICE! ^^

Don't forget about files and stuff like that, all that you take granted may be confusing to us! Also don't forget to say if one can make LOD in the beginning of the mod, in the end, if one can change, tips like that if possible.

Thanks for your time!

Alrighty I've recorded it all. Luckily the LOD worked and I didn't mess up anywhere. I'll edit it together and upload it within a few hours.

Please let me know what you guys think! I'm sure it will be a bit odd as it's my first tutorial video ever, so let me know how I can improve future ones.

The simple fact that you made it deserves our gratitude, not all people share, so, thanks :)

Okay, crap. Stupid window's Aero got a little weird sometimes. I need to decide whether to re-record the weird parts or if I can fix it up or just leave it.

EDIT: Okay I can't tell what's the video being messed up, and what's my editor lagging in loading the really long clips. This is rapidly going downhill. xD

DOUBLE EDIT: Window's Aero botched the recordings for certain; and I can't live with myself to release something with graphical glitches occasionally like this. I'll redo the tutorial either tonight, or on Thursday.

But hey, as least this was a learning experience, and now I know to turn off Aero before recording, I'm more used to recording, and I know my process works. :D

Not sure if this helps, but:

Use this program to record: http://atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com/video/
Use this program to manipulate and compress if needed: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

If you don't need to manipulate no need to use movie maker because atube already compress the file.

Thanks but I think I have it figured out. Aero was just causing issues, as it likely would with most programs, so I just need to disable it before recording. I did some test recordings and had no issues.

As for editing, I most certainly will be manipulating it. I can't do one take longer than about 3 minutes without messing up and yelling dramatically, which I fear wouldn't make good learning material. Plus where would the fun be if I couldn't make a fancy intro and outro?

As for a tutorial on tutorials, I've actually considered making a video about making video's. Trailers, I mean. Because while mine may not be the best thing ever, some mod trailers make me facepalm pretty hard, because with the same amount of effort and a few tips, you can make a really nice looking video. (Okay, at least a 'not bad' looking video)

But I always decide not too because it's kinda a silly thing to make a tutorial on.

Back on the LOD tutorial, I'm actually really glad I'm redoing it. I've added a lot, cleaned up what I talk about, and it will be MUCH better than the first one. I have set aside time later tonight to do it, so it should be up in about 6-8 hours.

Oh wow this just is not cooperating with me. Looks like I'm going to have to mess around some more. The video has issues in the editor, but if I convert it to fix the issues, the framerate goes weird and a whole bunch of other stuff comes up.

Not sure when I'll finally get this up at all. I'm going to try a whole bunch of different recording tools and editors to see if I can get one to stop being finicky with me. -_-

How's about Audacity it's fantastic, used it for all sorts from novel narration to creating silent wav files.

As for video, fraps does a great job, just outputs massive files.

I use them and put them into power director. But there are free video editing softwares out there that do the job.

Fraps only records program based render windows. It wont record things like notepad, all of the CK, or my desktop. It also wont swap windows without me starting and stopping it again.

It's great for ingame footage, but terrible for anything else.

As for editing software, it's not really my software, just the codecs aren't lining up. I just need to find one that works.

Just try the link I gave you, seriously, atube let's you select a frame or area, give it a try, also it's a program that allows you to convert formats and catch things from the net, it's really cool.

If you don't like it uninstall it, done :)

Again it's fincky codecs that's the issue here, it has little to do with what I record with. However I figured out a solution. I can 'recover' my whacky recordings by playing them in the windows media player (which runs them no problem), and recording that with Fraps. The result is a new video file, identical in size and quality that uses fraps codec, one of the only ones that seems to cooperate with my editor.

So now I can re-cord the video's from the tutorial, then edit them together.

Watch; after all of this trouble you guys are going to hate the tutorial and think it's garbage. xD

I sure hope so. The one thing that I didn't do, which is really bugging me but I'm not going to worry about it, is I mess up every once in a while (Say something weird or start a sentence then start saying another one) and I didn't fix it or rerecord every time. I'm really OCD about quality things like this, but I didn't want to rerecord the same thing over and over and over because of one little thing, and it would have just taken forever. So, hopefully you guys don't mind. Because my OCD seriously hates it.

I also sound about 5 years younger when recorded... -_-
