What level did you start killing Giants?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:06 am

Ok, the question is simple but the answer is hard. I do not want to hear any [censored] about "Naked Nord guy does it at level 1 OMFG" or any "Giants ruin the game bla bla bla!"

Discuss

I now have a level 8 orc who is hard on the alch, 2h. Think I could mop the floor with a giant yet?

I have only killed one giant and it was during a quest where I was piecing together a hangover. I was level 19 and used only fur armor and steel weapons with no enchants, but im not sure how thatt giant stacks up to others since it was quest related, but at your level unless you have some killer equipment or a way to exploit the landscape you may have some issues.

As far as I've experimented with giants.. They are 1hit killers but, have an easy routine or attack pattern. Just being lucky and not getting hit is all it takes. Your level and damage output only determine the length of the battle.

On my Mage I can do it after level 5 usually when I unlock Ice Spike. On my theif I do it at around 15 or whenever I unlock the Dagger Sneak Attack Bonus Perk. On my Warrior it's usually at +20 because I have to unlock all 3 words for unrelenting force.

You can kill them easily with a longbow at level 1. Just have to use the terrain to your advantage. They can't climb rocks you know :)

They also can't get into small spaces. Some bridges have a low enough clearance that they can't follow you underneath them, and you can kill them at range easily. Less easily running in and out of melee range, but that at least gives them a sporting chance.

Yes, you could. Go to Morthal, head north into the swamps, grab as much Swamp Fungal Pod and Canis root as you can. Bang, you've got the ingredients for paralysis poisons. Shoot it once with a posioned bow, then run in and whomp it with your 2h weapon, tossing on moreparalysis poison as soon as it starts standing up. Use your orc special power to keep it from taking all day (and avoid running out of potions).

Fairly easy job that way, actually.

level 1...

I jump on a rock and shoot them with arrows, after an initial stealth attack. They can't reach me. (Has to be the right rock or be up on a cliff, or a hill-side, or standing under an overhang.)

Also works if you simply kite them... (Run backwards and strafe and fire arrows.)

Just don't try to tickle them with the tip of your sword, and you will live.

Level 12 with my thief/assassin, killed two giants near Whiterun (not Secunda's Kiss but the other one nearby). Used Paralyze poison on one, Slow on the other and just backed up constantly shooting arrows (poisoning them as necessary). Took a lot of shots, but managed to kill them. It was an epic feeling :)

I tried to kill one on my way to a quest location. The thing killed my familiar and my horse in one hit. Started coming after me and I ran like hell. Luckily, its not too persistent. I would say I can kill it around lvl 15 with Ice spells to lower stamina.

I can take them toe-to-toe at around level 35, with a 2handed weapon, But I had 4/5 in barbarian and 3/5 in heavy armor's first star, as well as the weightless perk

Level 12ish, anything time before that playing melee I seem to get destroyed. I keep their toes as trophies.

I don't know if you mean killing them toe to toe or not, but I kill them pretty easily around level 10 or so with my mage by just kiting them.

Well like everyone I attempted to kill one the moment I saw the thing (not the companion one) which resulted in me running very fast for my life. Then you work out ways to deal with them effectively, like from very far away for example. I can't quite recall what level I was but it was fairly early I think and involved a collection quest for Ysolda. Maybe level 10-15ish? Involved a lot of arrows and a lot of jumping on and off of rocks.

I've killed one at around level 5 before, they're fairly easy kills if you use archery/destruction and you know what you're doing.

While we are talking about giants...in camps where there are two or more, do you think casting a high enough level frenzy spell could make them kill each other? Did anyone manage to do this? Also, in terms of gameplay I think that giants don't scale in level, so what level are they? I might just try frenzying a couple of giants when I get home.

Around 25. I got owned at about level 6, and avoided them like the plague for the rest of the game.

I'm killing some now at level 12 with my Nord 2H Barbarian. I can take them down alright as long as I'm careful. I usually do 1 power attack and some normal swings mixed in after I dodge his charge, and repeat that til he's dead. With the amount of health I have though, I can't take any direct hits or I'm dead, and even with my block up I'll be less than half health so I need to hit and dodge.

Up til level 4 I killed 4 giants.

giants are not too hard they are similar to centurions. although abit more deadlier. they have a smash attack which is a one shot. their normal bash is not. if you keep weaving in and out with a 2h weapon for range you can kill them in melee fairly easily at level 10. if you are 1h it is doable just that you need to run closer and it takes longer for you to run out to avoid his attacks. if you have ranged as others have mentioned you can kill them at any level if you use terrain.

My current chap (bosmer assassin) spent the majority of levels 5-30 in the rift, so I didn't see them untill after 30. Then I was taking giants down in 2 sneak arrows.

Edit: does anyone know if animal allegiance works on giants?
