What do I do? D:

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 1:31 am

There are three things I've been planning to do since January. Go to my cousin's wedding in Ohio, get my Xbox 360 fixed, and buy Skyrim. I've tried my hardest to save money but with no job this year and no one to support my "expensive" tastes, I ended up with about $417 in the bank account. I was relying on either my father or aunt to buy my flight ticket for the wedding but found out last minute, no one was going. So selflessly, maybe foolishly, I used my own money so I could be there. Family first, right? Well after I get back from the trip next sunday, I'll have a grand total of approximately twenty-one dollars.

According to Microsoft's crap policy, I have to pay a minimum of $100 to send in my box for repair. I don't even know what's wrong with it. The power cord lights up when plugged in so I think it's just the console itself. There's no green ring, red ring, or anything. It just won't turn on, period. I have no clue where else to get it checked out. On top of that, I was considering picking up Skyrim at midnight release. I'm assuming it'll take about a week for my 360 to get repaired wherever I send it. How am I going to come up with $139 by November second? Any suggestions? I think I screwed myself on this one. I'm worried if I don't play this game immediately after release, I'll lose interest. I haven't played any video games since February, afterall.

I feel for your pain, I was ina rut but luckily something came up.

I assume you already pre ordered, right? Just get the game, then put it away somewhere safe, then save up money to get your 360 fixed. Good luck though, sorry for the situation :(

If you have like a Red Ring Error, they usually allow it to be repaired for me, thats what happened to mine. Maybe you need to save your money better, because 417$ is not that much money.

That's pretty unlucky.

If your Xbox is broken try removing the casing and see where the problem is, possible overheating causing melted components or dislodged pieces, or get a mate to check it out, and maybe try repairing yourself or buy separate parts.

There is almost always SOME way to earn a little money (at least in First World countries), you just need to try hard enough. Go around the neighbourhood and ring every door and ask them if they have a small job for you. For Skyrim, you know?

Get a job

Been trying all year.

and then a PC :P

Gaming PC's are way out of my price range.

Buy new cords

I don't think anything is wrong with the cords. There's a small chance it may be the one that connects the console to the power box but it's slim.

I assume you already pre ordered, right? Just get the game, then put it away somewhere safe, then save up money to get your 360 fixed.

Naw, I never preorder. If I care that much about a video game (which in this case I do), I want it in my hands ASAP. As in picking it up from Walmart at midnight.

I feel for your pain, I was ina rut but luckily something came up.

Good luck though, sorry for the situation :(

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Maybe you need to save your money better, because 417$ is not that much money.

I know but it's the absolute best I could do.

trade in old games to best buy
trade in all your games at gamestop so you get enough credit for a new xbox and skyrim

This is a great suggestion. I might just do that!

http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-360/troubleshoot/hardware/power

That was the first thing I did when it wouldn't work. I checked the website for help, called the company, and everything. Went through the whole nine yards and the only suggestion they gave me was to ship it in.

That's pretty unlucky.

If your Xbox is broken try removing the casing and see where the problem is, possible overheating causing melted components or dislodged pieces, or get a mate to check it out, and maybe try repairing yourself or buy separate parts.

I'm incredibly useless when it comes to self repairs. So are all my friends.

Have you tried working at a temp agency? Not sure if there are any in your area, but there are usually dozens of them in every city.

Also, there are probably some seasonal part-time gigs at retailers relating to Halloween and the holiday season.

$21 will buy a ski mask, a toy firearm and some black spray paint. The cojones required to pull off this plan, however, cannot be purchased.

Good luck.

I traded in Forza 3, Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Guitar Hero 5, Dante's Inferno, Just Cause 2, and SvR 2010 (aka 5 older-ish games I never play anymore) yesterday and with the 30% bonus for trading in towards Skyrim plus the 10% bonus from my powerup rewards card it was $72 in trade-in credit. Point of telling this is that you should be able to trade in enough games that you don't play anymore to pay for Skyrim :P

edit: comma splice lol

edit 2 - If you can try borrowing a friends power cable just to be sure that's not the root of the cause before paying the one hundred to send it in, it wouldn't hurt :P

It's just that time is against me here. I'll be in Ohio from the 19th to the 23rd and that's going to make me miss a lot of school. I'll be doing homework for days. There's nowhere I can get an instant job around town but even if I did, there's no way they'd be cool with letting me skip four days of work. You know what I mean?

Like others suggested, I'll probably sell my old games and maybe some other stuff I don't need anymore too. It's the only kind of thing that would get me cash between now and Skyrim's release date. That seems like the best way to go right now.

I'm just saying that I highly doubt waiting another month or two after it releases will kill your desire to play it. I just bought Metro 2033 yesterday and it was released a year and a half ago. Sure, it wasn't huge on my radar, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

And what are your "expensive" tastes? Were you unable to cut back on any expenditures?
