What if the Dawnguard beta destroys our game?

How'd you already hear back from bethesda? I thought they were picking the beta testers next week?

But what if the glitches affect your personal health and not only your games?

Lol.

I think this thread is stretching paranoia to a new level. The first point was perhaps worth asking. All the others danman101 are rather reaching.

Save your files onto an external, or cloud storage, or transfer them to your PC using Modio, they will probably bug out in some way, but that is what beta testing is all about :)

I would gladly have all my game saves destroyed forever for a chance to beta test Dawnguard. I can't wait to try out crossbows and fight that new giant frost troll thing...

I'll probably get a USB, however, if I am invited to do the testing, because I worked hard on my guy's face in character creation and don't want to lose it haha.

Are you that far behind the technology trend?

Dawnguard COULD contain some form of glitch that could affect anything on the console. You never know.

I remember a while back when something as simple as a patch messed up Xbox Live connection for the Xbox 360. (the patch was for Assassins Creed Brotherhood) Anyone who downloaded this patch lost the ability to connect to Xbox Live. Even if you deleted the patch from your Xbox, you still couldn't connect to Xbox LIve. (until they eventually released another patch a week later to fix this problem, after numerous failed patches that made the matter worse)

Anything is possible.

On the other hand, AC:B actually has an online component.

Yeah, I kinda forgot that this is the Xbox we're talking about. Playing the Dawnguard beta will probably burn your house down.

It's definitely a good idea to have saves backed up. We'll be communicating with participants of the beta and keeping them on informed on things.

Thats what a beta is, if something goes haywire then report it.

Remember, this is a beta, not some free head start preview.
Definitely this, a beta is always a bug test, report the bugs so we can have a good experience with the content.

Yeah, at least Kivan will have to look harder for things to fix in the Unofficial Official Skyrim Mods Patch ;)

You're taking the same risks PC gamers take that test the beta patches before they are released. If you don't feel comfortable with that then don't do it.

Personally I wouldn't want any part of it because I think playing with the sole purpose of looking for bugs would ruin the experience for me.

For those that take part I hope they realise this is an important job they have and not a simple preview of the dlc.

I disagree... if beta testers didn't at least partially see it as a preview for the dlc, then they wouldn't sign up, because who wants to do a bug tester's job for free?

Of course, they get the DLC itself for free, but I think that's more a matter of convenience for Bethesda rather than actual compensation.

I don't remember the patch breaking Xbox live for the user, I just remember it breaking the multiplayer component and possible use of the game (Can't play unless you got the title update). If it had broke the Xbox live connection for the player, they wouldn't of been able to have downloaded the fix to correct the issue unless it was uploaded onto a Website which would then be installed via Modio etc.

The whole point of this is that it's a Beta, there are going to be problems and the reward for participating? Receiving Dawguard for free when it's released.

Of course they have the added advantage of previewing it before anyone else but the important thing is they keep their end of the bargain if they are selected. The competence of the beta testers will reflect how polished the finished product is and as you mentioned they are also getting the dlc for free

I just play one character at a time and when I get tired of that character, just start another.

So I wouldn't be very concerned if the beta did something to break a save. I'd just start again.

It's funny. When I read the beta test invitation thread yesterday, I thought the beta testing itself might be interesting ... didn't even think about getting a preview of the DLC, etc.

Maybe because I did system testing in my work some years back and enjoyed trying to "break" things, etc.

Odd what you can see as "fun" sometimes.

Worried.
Redundent saves!
Problem Solved.

I find most bugs funny and interesting...getting to see more of them is so exciting that it over rules my concerns about problems. It is a beta so I would know going in that things my get strange...and I am okay with that! ;)

It could. That's why with betas you back up your saves first, they're labelling it beta for a reason. As Saulot said, the whole point of a beta test is to find bugs, not to play the DLC early.

I read it's a no go for us Dutch folks  only US

Very good points. An external or Cloud Save is the key. In fact, if one is fortunate enough to have it for Xbox and PC both. They could create different characters and transfer them to the Xbox for testing.

To me, there's something very humerous about the OP.

Has anyone considered this?

For all we know this beta could be absolutely packed with game-braking glitches to the point where it makes the game unplayable.

That makes it sound like the game will be so broken that your Xbox will eject the disc and short-circuit in disgust because of the extreme svckage.

I read it's a no go for us Dutch folks  only US
That's a damned shame. Also, you're never getting Flanders! >:L

I'm confused about how to register for the beta. Are we already registered by being in the forums, or is there an additional thing we have to do?
