What if the Dawnguard beta destroys our game?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:18 am

If the beta kills my saves then so be it, it was my decision to try it and I can only blame myself. I don't expect that the beta could do damage beyond Skyrim.

However I do wonder if Bethesda will patch up from the beta. Or that they'll re-release the DLC. If its the second then potentially after the beta my beta-played saves might not be compatible with actual release of Dawnguard. Meaning that I have to reload an older save and do it all again.

If this is the case then I'd rather not do the beta. I plan on using these characters in future DLC as well. I'm okay with having to replay because of a game breaking bug but if it is known that I have to replay even if I don't encounter a single bug then I won't join the beta. Does anyone something about how Bethesda plans to do this?

This is not just "playing" and continue with it later. It will be suggested to copy your existing saves to an other save device, play the Beta, try to find things that are an issue...try to break the DLC and revert to your old saved characters when a re-release is ...released.

I'd imagine that this will be the advice given to the selected participants, or something close.

Gstaff posted yesterday saying they're starting with only US, but may move to international players. So there's hope yet!

I was wondering this myself. There was little point having we non-U.S. folks wasting our time filling out the rest of the form if a U.S. only limitation exists.

Hopefully they will select some "international" beta testers.

There are risks involved with beta testing, your fears could become reality though maybe your slightly exaggerating on what could happen, but anything is possible I hope I get the beta I have a back up save file already on the built in hard drive of my xbox and I also have the extra 320 gig hard drive that I normally use, so If it destroys my save files I can just copy them back to my 320 gig at a later time, but the purpose of the Beta Tester is to find the bugs and report the bugs with as much detail as possible. We will be helping out everyone, not just the 360 players but all the fans of skyrim to help make the DLC as bug free as possible, If you think the risks are to high, then you probably shouldn't be a Beta Tester

So the beta people will be chosen in a week or so?..Release in mid july,probably,maybe?..Or even later? :ermm:
If the release will be in july,august..that would be almost a year since skyrim launched...they better have some super awesome content.

Maybe even glitches that affect not only Skyrim, but other games as well.)
I don't think that's possible.

And if you're worried make more then one save for your character and back them up on a USB drive. This is what beta testing is. That's why Beth wants us :) To test their awesome product.

The dlc is finished, its only bug squashing. The code you get is the proper code for dawngaurd, just a non-patched one.

But what if the glitches affect other games and not only Skyrim?

What if a meteor destroys Bethesda today?

What if the forums go down?

What if Dawnguard never releases?

What if TESVI never releases?

Seriously stop with this ridiculous process of asking more "What ifs".

I don't remember the patch breaking Xbox live for the user, I just remember it breaking the multiplayer component and possible use of the game (Can't play unless you got the title update). If it had broke the Xbox live connection for the player, they wouldn't of been able to have downloaded the fix to correct the issue unless it was uploaded onto a Website which would then be installed via Modio etc.

The whole point of this is that it's a Beta, there are going to be problems and the reward for participating? Receiving Dawguard for free when it's released.

It did (pretty much) break Xbox LIve for the user.

If you attempted to connect to Xbox Live, it would come up with the message to download the patch for brotherhood. After you downloaded the patch, it would prompt you to download it again. It created an endless loop of the same patch being prompted to download. Even if you attempted to connect to Xbox Live with a different game inserted, it would still come up with the message.
