What is the one perk everyone should go for, regardless of r

Has anyone gotten the hidden treasure perk for lock picking? I personally don't find lock picking to be necessary as far as perks because I can still pick a master lock given enough time. But does it come in handy? And if so, what kind of loot has it gotten you?

I believe it raises your chance of finding top tier loot from 10% to 15%.I could very well be wrong it was a while ago that I read it
check UESP it has more details i believe

Steel Smithing -> Arcane Blacksmithing

This. 60 smithing is pretty easy to get, and even if you do nothing else, its quite nice to be enhancing your magic loot to Exquisite (easy to hit 65 with any old smithing ring / necklace you find) or Flawless / Epic (for steel goods, which includes Wolf armor, Skyforged Steel, and Nored hero weapons - some of the best stuff you can get at lower levels).

Maybe not worth it for a pure mage, but for ANYBODY else...

I did. I was hoping to get some useable gear out of chests faster. I ended up using rings and necklaces bought from shops and selling the loot I found in chests. I came away from the perk having more gold on that character, but that's about it. I also talked the perk up once on the forum, but in the end, I don't think it's worth the 5 perks you have to use to get there anymore, due to the fact that mainly shops have such nice gear. And there are a ton of shops in the game.

Edit: The loot was lackluster run of the mill stuff for me. I had the perk from level 40-50 and about 20 hours of playtime and didn't find any rare (daedric, peerless+) items.

Interesting, I pick lots of locks and find the whole lockpicking tree useless. Good to know at least one person likes it. =3
I think the lockpicking perk tree is useless for conventional reasons, but I still think that the perk tree has a lot of cool perks in it, and it's really useful for role-playing and immersion. Wax Key is a really useful perk if you want to rob shops more than once that lock up every night, and it's just cool. Also, the unbreakable lockpick perk is useful if you don't have the Skeleton Key.

Dual enchanting is probably the most powerful, but I can't say that you must have it.

It really depends on the difficulty level you're using. If you're playing on easy, then I'd say Master Trader. That's about the only area you'd need help with ... selling all that loot.

On expert and up, the magic resistance in the Alteration tree is pretty helpful, as is Avoid Death in Restoration.

I'd say Extra Pockets, especially if you force your carry weight to be about 100-150 on new characters (Because I find lugging around 300 lbs of gear incredibly unrealistic).

This is why I wish we had a general perk tree that just affected things across the board.

Steady hand. And a poisoned arrow. You will never feel more awesome than when you one-shot guards from a few hundred feet away.

Double enchantment. It took me almost 400hrs to get there, really can't believe how good it is. Does however make quite a few of the other perks redundant.

400 hours to get to 100 in enchanting? Wow, that must have been a pain :S. Im on the console, but I could never bared waiting 400 hours to get max enchanting. I allmost feel like a cheater compared to you now :P. Enchanting is allmost a "must have" for all the characters I make, and after a few times it does not take long to get to 100,

My suggestion for the perk that would be the best all-rounder is the 100 extra carrying capacity from the pickpocket tree. Though it does not come free, by being bound to spend three perk points to get that perk and unlock it, and have 50 in pickpocketing (which is easy to reach).

I haven`t even heard of this steaddy hand. I would say there is no perfect Perk for all races\classes, it depends on what you choose and what works best for you.

Honestly, I feel like every character I make has to take the first Restoration talent and the perk that makes the heals do twice as much...I've actually managed to stay away from it on my newest character, though.

I don't want to waste perks though. I already am going to use 72 perks. Gotta save the other 8 for that Werewolf Perk Tree, if it comes out.

You'll have a few more though if they add Lycanthropy, as getting that to level 100 will take you over level 81, might get to level 84 or 85 with those extra hundred levels?.

One perk? Not sure, but if the question asked for one skill I'd say everyone should invest heavily in smithing. Especially mages.

My Ebony Bow hits at 126 right now. With 100 sneak and some 40% buff from baubles and clothing I am one-shooting almost every damn thing. It gets old after a while ... trust me.

Ha! One perk? That depends on the character...
Smithing? No.
Armor H/Lt? No.
Alch? No.
Ench? No
Speech? Hell no.
Sneek? No.
Lockpick? See Speech.
Yada, yada, yada....
The one skill I always invest in is Conjuration. The perk is Dead Thrall.

Damage bonus perks of any build type.

Everyone likes to sneak every once in awhile though so I say the rolling perk in Stealth. It is just fun to have imo. It also is surprisingly useful. I have never been detected while rolling ( ) hehe but seriously rolled right on by Draugr Death Lords and all.

Arcane Blacksmithing or Extra Effect, no character is really optimized without them since your gear will pretty much svck if you don't take them.

I've never touched extra pockets, when do you realistically need to be able to carry more? What are you guys hauling around? I never found a need, seems like a worthless perk to me.

You should always put 1 point in the armor type you intend to use (unless you are going with a specific unarmored build) because that 1 perk will always scale well throughout the game

So
Agile Defender
or
Juggernaut
or
Exception, you are playing an unarmored build

The rest is always variable... there are a variety of means to make viable builds through itemization and perk combinations.

If you use weapons, then the ones that boost damage would be useful.

I also like the speech perks that let me sell items to any merchant, and invest in their shop. Trying to sell dungeon loot or alchemy potions is a pain when only one merchant can buy one type of item, and many merchants don't have more than 500-1000 gold on them without perks (yes, there are exceptions).
