What was that about vendors being replaced?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:52 pm

Yeahhhh.. I killed those obnoxious b*tches at the Radient Raiment cuz well.. they were snobby b*tches.

I recall people (or developers?) saying that when you'd kill a vendor they would be replaced after some time by a relative or some crap from another part of Tamriel...

It's been probably a week in-game and the store's still locked and uninhabited everytime I go by it...

Are vendors NOT replaced like I could've sworrrrrrrrn I heard about?

Not as far as I know. The only one I KNOW gets replaced is when Ysolda takes over the Bannered Mare (and I don't have that in my games, but I know a couple people who've said it happens - not sure what the trigger is though....)

I think it's a limited thing. If you take out the guy running the Riverwood Trader, his sister takes over the business. If you kill the woman running the Bannered Mare, Ysolda ends up running it.

Since you killed both people tied to Radiant Raiment... I think you're out of luck there.

I think it's only if that character has a relative. if you kill a guy who lives alone, that store is going to get shut down

A dragon killed Alvor on my second character too. Also, what does AFAIK stand for?

Ooooo, I'm gonna' kill Belethor so Ysolda can open her shop she wants. Sleep well, Condescending kcirP.

Speaking of vendors being replaced: I'm of the understanding that if they (all NPCs actually) are killed on PC and replaced with console commands they do not behave normally and are only present graphically.

I think there's another command (or set of commands) that have to be used to re-enable "normal" behavior.

And what IS it with people having issues with Belethor? Who CARES if he's a you know what.... It's not like he's Maven Black-Briar (or Nazeem.... who does NOT have a shop even to make him "okay"). Besides, Ysolda's a drug-dealer (more or less.... certainly not on the order of same in previous games, but still....)

Yep, Modesi in Riften was killed by the guards' arrows, and he was never replaced.

Nazeem is on the list too, I can assure you. I may wait for all the expansions to be released because it would be my luck that he offers an epic quest in the future if I were to kill him now.

Belethor is a rude ass and Ysolda is polite. I'm much more tolerant of someone who's polite and offering something people want (drug) than being rude offering people stuff they might need (general store). Belethor will buy Skooma BTW. :P

I don't find him rude at all. Smarmy, yes. As far as buying skooma, I never pick it up, so don't really care.

Life's too short in Skyrim - smarmy gets you killed...so does snarky. :P

I didn't say you picked it up - I know your feelings about it :P - I'm just saying that if you hold Ysolda accountable for it Belethor's no better because if he's buying it then he's either selling it or using it. He's not buying it to dispose of it out of the kindness of his heart.

Oh, I suppose that's true. And of course, my feeling about the moon sugar/skooma "trade" has a lot more to do with the previous games than their presences in THIS game. It's the little stuff like that which gets me though - how about some consistency?

But honestly, back to Belethor - I simply don't see why anyone's so upset with him. He's just another merchant. He can't pick up a fem toon, he can't challenge a masc toon, so where's the beef? He's no worse than any of the merchants really. And he's a lot better than the snoot sisters!

Yes, those two are worse - it's why I steal everything in their shop every time I pass it after hours. I don't feel as much of a desire to kill them because they aren't selling necessities like a general store. I don't visit all vendors, but give me the names of some other rude ones and I'll deal with them, too. :D

I couldn't tell you who's rude. I simply don't notice. I go there to sell stuff. I buy only a few things - filled soul gems sometimes, a few ingredients for various quests, and armor/weapons to DE - lockpicking, light armor, one-handed, smithing, and carry weight. Otherwise, all I care about is that they have enough gold to buy what I need to sell.

And truthfully, even Nazeem doesn't bother me any more - there's a mod for the entirety of NPC blather. Thank the goddess.

It's more the way he says it. Kinda like when Senator Palpatine tells Amidala "Do it for me m'lady" in Star Wars Episode I.

Although the voice does remind me of Barry from Storage Wars.

Ah. Disconnect.... I don't have the voices on. I HATE VA in games, so the first thing I do is turn the voices off. So if y'all are reacting to voices instead of words.... well, I don't have that issue. It's just words to me. And - I never watched any of the SW prequels....

"Come on in, EV-ry thing's for sale- ack!" Thud.

Wait, wait... are we sure it's Ysolda and not that wood-chopping mouth-breather that takes over?
