So what will be the "past" between Ulysses and the C

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:33 pm

The obvious route would be brothers.

However, I can't think of any real other things to make the Courier and Ulysses linked in a fundamental way that would make the two want to confront one another.

They're obviously building up a "you will confront Benny AT ALL COSTS" sort of thing.

However, it's hard for to imagine what will emotionally engage my Courier given Ulysses obviously had nothing to do with Benny's plan to shoot me and BURY ME ALIVE.

Theres a grave outside wolfhorn ranch. I'm guessing the courier may have killed someone important to Ulysses.

Ulysses was the person who was going to deliver the chip in the first place but after he "disappeared" you had to be the one to deliver it.

Ulysses was his/her male lover previously known as Mr Rogers. But then the ultimate showdown happened.

Probably used to be on the same bowling team.
Then The Courier messed up the final bowl which could've had them winning over the Gecko Skinning Crew and Ulysses never forgave him/her for that.

Johnson Nash never told you what happened to your father.
"He told me enough; He told me YOU killed him!"
No, Courier... I am your father.
"That's not true. THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
"NO, NOOOOOO"

*Announcer voice*: After the great bowling debacle of 2279 two men, one bearing the flag of the old world, the other wearing the scars given to him in his dangerous life in the wastes. They will meet under the blistering Mojave sun in the wastes, this chosen location will become a battlefield. A battle like none other, they will do battle the only way they know how.....

Ulysses: D-9
Courier: CRAAAAAAAAAAP! You sunk my battle ship!
Ulysses: Still can't believe you messed up that final bowl bro.
Courier: GET OVER IT! JESUS CHRIST!

They made a bet with eachother: "Whoever takes a bullet to the head and lives wins." The courier won, so Ulysess is pissed.

The Courier stole Ulysses' girl.

If they say he is his brother, by god they better let him be a follower after you bet that DLC. Oh the irony if they kill him, then Vegas will have to burn..

"So what will be the "past" between Ulysses and the Courier?"

gay romance...

More seriously, in all Obsidian fashion, it will probably turn around karma, fate & other "2 souls that aren't bound by fate thus are rivals blah blah blah"

This one sounds pretty legit.

The only clues we have to go off of are:

1) Ulysess seemed surprised to learn the Courier is alive.
2) Ulysess knew the Platinum Chip job was bad luck.
3) The devs have said their relationship will surprised us.
4) Ulysess said "People are like Couriers, never really understanding the impact of the message they're delivering."
5) Ulysess' card in the special edition deck is a club. Clubs are Caesar's suit.
6) Wolfhorn ranch is assumed to belong to Ulysess due to some of the foreign translations of the location's name. If you visit the Ranch and find the grave mentioned there, it has a burnt up book and a harmonica on top of it. (I'mma laugh if Ulysses turns into a "Once upon a Time in the West" reference)

My guess is the Courier probably unknowingly and inadvertedly got one of Ulysess' loved ones killed, and since then Ulysess has tried multiple times to kill him inadvertedly. I'm probably completely wrong though.

Would conflict with good karma couriers so i guess it is unlikely, and it would be weird to hear his rage about something we did not actually do ingame.

How would "unknowingly and inadvertedly getting one of his loved ones killed" conflict with good karma? You have no intent of killing the person and no idea that your actions will get that person killed. I'm talking about like....delivering a bomb to a guy without knowing it's a bomb, and then Ulysses ends up blaming you for it.
