What is up with the bears?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:05 pm

So I've been playing Skyrim since the day it came out, and I just love it. It's great fun, and I've beaten the main quest.

However,

Why are the stupid bears harder to kill than dragons?

Um no. There not. But if you run in to a cave bear at a low level you will have a good fight on your hands

I thought Dragons would be the hardest creatures to kill but I find, Bears and Cats, espically with the Frost in them really hard to kill.

I did find an easy solution, when you see one. Lot harder when there is more than one. I use calm spells on them and run for my life lol. :bolt:

Thinking it's something to do with magic resistance (fire/ice breath is considered magic) versus melee attacks and armour rating.

I personally don't find them harder, although I no longer have dragon attacks due to a glitch.

lots of things are harder to kill than dragons, which is a bit absurd really.

the other day i encountered a frost dragon just outside of Ivarstead and it started attacking this Wisp Mother that was just out of sight on a hill. i couldn't tell which wisp mother was the real one as i didn't see it spawn to the three mirror images and some of them broke of from the dragon and just decided to come after me. meanwhile one of the wips mothers proceeds to use icebolts to wipe out the frost dragon.

So now my nord has volleys of nine dual cast icebolts coming at her from three different directions and proceeded to get her ass wore plum out. it was about the worst asskicking i have received in this game yet on any character at any level. I was really pissed off considering i was about 13th level and didn't think i had any business encountering that stuff.

that said probably the worst asskicking i ever got was from an ancient dragon that landed on my head, staggered me, bit me one time for doing 40% of my health, then before i could even get my sword out it bit me in half and tossed my useless carcass. so some dragons are pretty tough.

Yeah, bears are more dangerous. But Bandit Marauders are even more dangerous, especially if they have two-handed weapons.

A dragon?
Bandit Marauder with a Steel Greatsword? Ahhh! We're all going to die! :bolt:

At Level 20, yes. What a pain. See the times-you-died thread. And yes, he did have a greatsword.

Bears have never been harder for me to kill than a Dragon on any character I have made. But there are quite a few enemies that are harder to kill. As the Dragonborn though, you kill them easier than a normal person.

The thing is, I'm a pure sword and shield, heavy armor character at level 24. However, I still have trouble with the stupid bears.

I find sabrecats to be more of a nuisance. They're quicker and deadlier. Bears usually drop after one, maybe two arrows and manage to get nowhere near me. Sabrecats, on the other hand, are capable of surprise attacks and sometimes manage to get a hit off

Bears are easy to outrun but you have to have some fancy footwork to outmaneuver a sabrecat (you obviously can't face off against it).

a neat trick is to shout Kyne's Peace, or cast Calm if you're into that sort of thing, and either run away or walk behind them and SNEAK CRIT!

I actually prefer to get up in their face now, just because I can, and remind those pussies who's Dovahkiin

Dragons are lvl scaled but with bears there aren't so large scaling. When you get over lvl 10 things will change. At that point bears are far easier to kill than dragons. Until that don't try to fight them. Best thing with bears is you almost never need to fight them if you don't want. They'll noise tells you where they are and you can just avoid them. They won't attack you until you go too close or attack by yourself.

Those bears are vicious, I once got attacked by 3 at the same time out of them out of the blue came out of no where. Was directly right after I killed 2 sabre cats at the same time.
I'm fairly convinced Skyrim hates me, I've never had to carry so many healing potions on a character that uses restoration magic in any game before.

Yeah it makes no sense how a single bear can take on and beat a single frost dragon or normal dragon. This has happened to me twice so far.

Yeah, it's a bit odd that I hear a dragon, and I'm not much worried at all, but that if I hear a bear, I automatically think " **** ".

I always have my Stone Prison spell ready if I hear their growls, either to trap and kill them, or cast and flee (most probably).

The only odd behavior of the bears is that they chase down hares and deers like wild predators. Are they too hard to kill? Well some species of bears are classified as the biggest and most powerful land predators; not even the "big cats" can compete.

Just gain a few levels and nothing will be difficult.

I used to love watching bears roll down hills in Oblivion, but they don't seem to do the same in Skyrim, to the same extent.

I think bears are harder because they are more aggressive. A dragon attacks you then flies around giving you more space and time to recover. A bear just charges and continuously attacks you.
