What would playing Oblivion after Skyrim feel like?

Plus oblivion has the best dark brother hood quests where you crash a fake party to slowly systematically kill off all the guests while making each and everyone paranoid of each other but you.

This is a spoiler!

i kinda agree well they were a bit more interesting in oblivion for sure, but as for length where this comes from is the fact that instead of having to do the sub guild quests before moving on to the main stuff and through the ranks skyrim for good and bad made the little stuff option and required you to ask around for stuff to do in between main guild questing. I actually look for the lttle stuff from random members to finish first before doing the quests that take you to leadership (which i think they should have done away with gaining leadership of guilds all together or forced you to finish main quest first)

I agree with this, but they did it even in Oblivion, your the newest member of the guild and within a few months you have earned enough trust of the leader of said guild to become the new leader. I never did like that, it just didn't make sense... that is like taking the new cashier at the grocery store and making them a manager after a few months instead of promoting the assistant manager who has been there for five years.

This is my first exposure to Elder Scrolls. I really enjoy these story lines, and wonder what it would be like to run thru TES IV now. Just how far advanced is the gameplay in Skyrim over that in Oblivion? What would I most notice about the mechanics of the game? Do you think that Skyrim is so superior to Oblivion in content that I'd be really wasting my time? What would make me say, "This was a royal waste of time and money?"

Personally I started with TES:Games back with Arena.... Arena was decent, Daggerfall was extremely good, Morrowind was very different but exceptional when I got used to it, Oblivion was fun to play through but for extremely disappointing with the psychopathic scaling and very generic questlines... Skyrim for me is a combination of the elements I liked the most in Daggerfall and Morrowind combined with exceptional graphics and music.

The play style is very similar. You won't need to take much time getting used to a new game system because most of the controls and functions are the same.

Oblivion does have some very nice set pieces which make the game worthwhile like the Siege of the town of Kvatch which was my first wow moment when I wandered into it.

You would realize what a hallowed out piece of [censored] Skyrim truly is after you see all the stuff they cut. Then when you play morrowind and daggerfall, you will truly realize how much they cut.

I played Oblivion the other other day and I didn't really notice/appreciate any of the stuff left out. The cutting is much more obvious from Morrowind to Oblivion.

Well when I play Oblivion I always use the deadly reflexes mod, which makes combat in Oblivion extremely similar to Skyrims combat.

The messed up faces would drive me insane, even more than when Oblivion was new. Don't think I could play it now.

What about the fact that oblivion had an arena and spell-making, that alone makes it 10 times better than Skyrim ....

The arena was meh. Personally I avoided it on most characters as I found it a bit tedious.

Wouldn't say 10 times better but it was a well requested feature, something they have done before. You could argue that theres a war going on so people wouldn't be able to show off strength and compete for honor in combat but frankly 90% of the world seems unbothered by that anyway.

Oblivion was my first TES game. And it's still one of my favorite games.
If you can look behind the lowered graphics, the story and gameplay is incredible.
It was the same for me when I bought Morrowind. Absolutely incredible game, even without mods to increase the graphics.

If on PC you can get some graphical overhauls for Oblivion too, like Qarls Texture Pack III, All Narural and Natural Lights.
Get a GOTY by the way, absolutely worth it.

Oblivion > Skyrim

If you do decide to play it here's a bit of advice, don't be apart of the Mages guild and the thieves guild at the same time

I bought Oblivion Yesterday but probably won't actually play it for awhile. I did a bit of reading on the gameplay but it doesn't make me want to jump into it right away. It is only $17 (before tax) so if I can get a good/decent game without paying full price ($50-60) then I'll go for it. :P

The only thing i would like more in Oblivion is the Landscape. I prefer the nice green Landscape then the cold snowy white.... :D

I did exactly that recently, but more to learn about Cyrodiil and lore for my characters' background stories than for actual gameplay. I think the game is terrible . The MQ is incredibly tedious, even if the story itself is interesting. The graphics are also horrible, as are the sounds and general artwork. I played an archer and the gameplay was really laughably bad (arrows travel as fast as spit wads and are just as damaging). Beth has come a looooooooong way.

In other words, steer clear unless, like me, you only want to learn more about Cyrodiil. I personally really enjoyed seeing the points of interest.

This post is completely innacurate and hyperbolic . It might just be his opinion that the game is horrible and that's fine but Archery was very well done, the artwork was great, but yes some of the graphics were a bit blocky (why does that even matter?). As far as sound, I 100% disagree. Sounds great in my headphones.

it is well worth playing and like many mentioned before the questlines are really well done, especially the Dark Brotherhood. If you get all the DLC's there si a lot of game there.

Only you can decide whether or not it's "worth" it.
Skyrim is another game in the ES series and bares little if any resemblance to Oblivion.
Skyrim blends in the Elder Scrolls lore with today's desire for a "Fallout3" blood and gore" type game suitable for consoles.

Oblivion was nothing more than an "Interactive screen saver" A gorgeous interactive screen saver, but a screen saver all the same..Until OOO came along!
This is probably the most ridiculous statement in an annoying in-your face yellow text for trolling purposes ever made anywhere on these forums.

i think this thread is not question . its a quest . and the answer is to be found in common logic .

it means you have a very old antiquated system that would make you feel a lot better playing oblivion . :obliviongate:

Honestly, there are aspects of Oblivion I miss. Like the spell casting button. I don't find Skyrims system where you have to equip spells better to be honest. It's not like you have to make a hard choice what you want equipped, you can always pause the game in the middle of a fight and put your two handed sword away to cast a healing spell, so what's the point of forcing me to equip the spell to do so? All it does is slow down my game.

Oblivion is still a fun game that you could play for hours and it wouldn't get old but in comparasion to Skyrim it's not even close. Skyrim destroys it in almost every catagory, and fixes the flaws that Oblivion had. Oblivion has a couple major flaws such as terrible Overuse of Level Scaling, lack of interesting dungeons, a terrible Attribute system and a couple other things I'm forgetting but Oblivion is still better then a majority of the games that are out currently.

I had a lot of fun with Oblivion. Shivering Isles is hands down the best part of the game though, it's worth owning just for that alone.
