What would you make with Survival Skill?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:38 am

Good afternoon.

So while I was playing hardcoe mode I noticed survival skill was the most prominent while I was wondering what is the community's interest in creating something with survival and/or your favorite food/item to make with it. Also, what would you make if you could create anything you pleased.

My favorite items to make are, anti venom, bighorner steaks (Good eatin'), and the mass water purification.

And if I could create anything, I'd do a tribal's spear made from some pool cue and a bit of scrap metal with a gecko hide.

Also, I was wondering if the game had any actual tribals in it, ones that do in fact make their own items, weapons, clothing est.

To ad to this post, I was wondering what were everyone's ideas for crafted weapons, armor, items, and aid. Also for tribal based DLC.

When i got survival and before i had been hoping that i would literally be able to live of the land and make my own spears, clothing, food, and water. I think they should have spent a little more time on the survival skill i feel like it just like gathering random items that dont make sense half the time wheras the other half it just taking meat and turning it into a steak which will heal you a bit more.
Oh and modding community if anybody would make a mod which could help de-nurf Survival and make you able to make gecko armor and spears or something. Just and idea.

Party Time Mentats. Works wonders with a 1 charisma build.

Then there is Slasher that is Phyco+Med-X in a single dose. Might even stack with regular Phyco and Med-X for +50% total bonuses for DR and Damage output.

Desert Salad is great for cutting down on weight as it covers both food and water requirements.

The Survival skill is more usefull than it's been made out to be.

TRIBAL SPEARS TO THROW. I want them very much. I'd like to make throwing knives from Scrap metal also. I love the Survival Skill, but more tools should be able to be made, like throwing weapons that I simply can't find often enough to enjoy them fully.

What the crap is the good of a cured Gecko pelt???

My favs are Bighorn Streaks, I like to hunt them. TOO BAD I CAN'T HUNT THEM WITH SPEARS but fine I guess.

I also like making drugs. Great Khans RULE

BTW did they un-bug cactus water??

Well to save me the extra weight of carrying both a spoon and a fork, I'd create a makeshift spork. I might sharpen the handle end a bit too, to save me carrying a knife.

There seems to be a real paucity of craftable weapons in New Vegas, as opposed to like half a dozen outstanding weapons in FO3 there's like... two in FO:NV.

I'd love to see a spear, maybe a slingshot craftable with survival.

Also, the engine could do so much more with recipes as well, after all anything they did in Oblivion they could do in the updated engine as well.

So in short, that's what I want, I want Alchemy, like in TES: Oblivion: Take any ingredients you find combine them in any combination you like to make anything you want based on inherent properties of the ingredients that you discover in increasing degrees with a higher survival skill.

I actually find it very ironic that many of the "improvements" in FONV over FO3 are actually just taking things *removed* from FO3 as compared to Oblivion and adding them back in to the engine, when they never should have been removed in the first place.

Tribal spears, throwing knives, oh and id love to be able to make a slingshot too. Both of you have great ideas btw (Loucsta and Seraphian), imagine sling shotting a frag-grenade into a pack of jackal gang members! And making you own leather armor out of coyotehides and deathclaw hands.

Another thing, the dart gun, but you can apply different poisons to it, or even like a cross bow. With a tribal hatchet being able to chop down wood for a anywhere use campfire!

But there is a massive lack of craft-able weapons in new vegas which is my only major gripe about it! (besides the freezing and other bugs).

As well as some improvised weapons and similarly crafted traps like a tripwire to a grenade banquet.

I've seen mods that allow you to craft throwing spears, throwing knives, and throwing hatchets. I'm not sure if there are any that allow you to make the base items but I believe they are included. Survival is definitely nerfed but not to an irreparable state. I'd love to be able to make malted milk balls, seems odd but its an old military survival technique (when used with water it will swell your stomach so you don't feel starved) and also have the skill drop your food/sleep requirements a little (even though they aren't much of an issue anyway).

I stand corrected, I haven't looked into it much even though its a main skill on my hardcoe character...its why I said it didn't seem to really need it. Should create a tribal group that you can only interact peacefully with if you have a survival skill of 50+, just as a bonus for actually investing in it.

survival skill should warn us about dangers ahead (a deathclaw?) It should enable us to wrestle and not get hurt and move faster to run away from an attacking deathclaw (only when necessary). It should warn us about areas that are radiated before we step there. Sense ambushes and make this lead to different approach to have the option to ambush them instead.

It should enable different conversations and different and creative solutions to quests.

For example think about this scripted situation:

You are in a cave and opening just collapsed. There are several ways out of the cave and each exit leads to a different outcome. (I can only hope) Some with higher rewards.
with high enough survival skill, you could light a torch and follow the fire direction on the torch to a dark area which your character refused to enter before. If your survival is not high enough you could use intelligence check to achieve this. If your explosive skills are high enough, allow your character to find some kind of explosive materiel inside the cave and create a bomb to escape the cave.

No offense but I think anyone that uses explosive in an enclosed space already starting to cave in fails survival and intelligence. It would both cause the cave to further collapse and the explosion would svck the oxygen out of the room. Just a thought.

I'll admit, however, it would be a cool way to clear all the baddies out of a cave if you're too lazy or just plain adventurous. :)

I remember doing something similar in a cave in Fallout2 the cave collapsed and you didn't have to fight a huge rat. You actually didn't kill her just closed the way (afair)

I also remember blowing up a sewer and sh*t rained on the village changing the map completely :) fun times.

To this day Fallout 2 is one of the best games I've ever played. One of the reasons I got my tattoo, don't get me wrong, quite a few more personal reasons.

This thread has suddenly made me want to downlad fallout2 again.

Also, Id love to make a couple poison grenades, from radscorpion poisons and some leather of some kind.

Being able to make armour would be sweet, like you could craft armour with special effects kinda thing.
Being able to make poison stuff more easily (i mean how hard is it to dip a melee weapon in venom?).

idk what else really.

Animal skin coats and hats! Imagine being able to wear deathclaw/gecko heads as a hat a la soul calibur IV!

Could even expand this to let you walk through packs of them unnoticed against a stealth check etc..
