What do you think of Miraak's gear?

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 1:28 pm

lame enchantment on all of the items. The sword looks pretty badass though, i've been using it since i got it. I was really expecting some kind of shout cooldown instead of whats on it. Also the mask's enchantment is pretty weak, it not even unique

 :yuck: lol, just kidding.

I know. But picture a sorceress, in his armor, his sword in one hand and his staff in another, and run into a group of bandits. lol

I feel so bad for those bandits. Those tentacles are creepy and gross.

I'll probably use console commands to get the staff and robes for my non-DB Wizard.
Wish there was a hood rather than a mask though, but oh well. The rest of his gear looks great!

They look really nice, same with all of the other clothing in the DLC, they fit Mage characters

I actually liked Miraak's Robes and such. I would like to build a mage build around them. Problem is gonna have to give it some thought since Mage Armor perks are worthless with the set. As well as I wouldn't have as much magicka+ or reduction gear on me. Not sure if I could rely on Dragonhide to make up for the lack of AR or not. But I do like the looks of the robe set as well as the new dragon priest masks.

Miraak's armor is actually really quite good, it's the only way at the moment to attain 100% Spell absorption.

This is true, but is it enough of a boon? Part of me thinks not, but if you could improve the light armor parts of his gear... I'm thinking you could make some super smith potions and just improve them enough to get a decent enough armor boost to justify using them. I really wonder what Bethesda was thinking. If they didn't want us to have his stuff, then why not just make him non-lootable. He is lootable, so that must mean they don't care, but if they are doing his armor like this to make us think twice about using it, it would be nice if the enchants were good enough to warrant a second look. As it stands, I don't see why one would abandon regular armor for this hybrid set that is admittedly awesome, but will make you as vulnerable in melee combat as a Volkswagen Beetle colliding with a cement truck.

Armor rating is of little importance in this game as you can cast invisibility at anytime to leave combat not to mention sneaking is obscenely powerful. 100% spell absorption means you never have to bother giving a crap against anything that uses magic/dragons. Heavy armor is completely useless in this game, light armor is the way to go, miraak's armor just makes it worse.

No, because not everybody wants to sneak around everywhere.

Simply put, unless you want to be a magic-based Dovahkiin, they won't be that useful.

That said, they look sweet enough for me to want to be that :)

the sword is quite powerful, it has the highest base damage for one handed swords in the game.
Not sure if it has the highest overall tough.

I kind of wish that the sword had a different name. It seems more like an item that was given to Miraak because he was HM's champion, not something he forged or obained himself. A name more like "Mora's Champion Blade" or something would've at least alleviated the pain of essentially getting Miraak's sloppy seconds as HM's new plaything (No tentacle jokes necessary).

For a Dragonborn, it seemed like he relied pretty heavily on the powers he borrowed (and was gifted) from Mora, I.e. the tentacle attacks, the weird vomiting, the teleporting in the ooze, etc.

Seeing his mask and sword just reinforced that idea even more to me. Miraak was no Dragonborn, he was an over-glorified champion of Mora, and a coward. His equipment looks too ugly for me to use even if I did use robes/clothing, so it just sits pretty on a mannequin in my new house in Raven Rock, with his weapons right next to it.

Uh, no. For certain builds, as all things, but for warrior classes, that is definitely a negative, Nancy. Heavy Armor is quite useful.

I usually don't play mage characters, but the robes look very nice. I am not much for masks either. I might try playing as an evil mage, I would combine the robes, boots and gloves with the Aetherial Crown instead for 2 standing stone abilities...hmmm....

Edit: Wonder which would be the best combo: the Atronach, the Ritual, or possibly the Lord stone?

Im not sure you realize how the armor cap works.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Armor_Rating#Armor_Rating

You can reach armor cap/near pretty easily with light armor you just save a few perks with heavy armor. Armor on light armor needed to be lower for release to justify heavy armor but unfortunately it's not justified, a melee char that uses light armor is actually in a better postion than one with heavy armor (Sprinting costs less stamina, stamina regnerates faster, less weight) etc.
