2 things...

THROWING AXE'S AND RIDE ABLE DRAGONSHIPS..

" ODIN, GUIDE OUR SHIPS "

@scaleman, in fable you can be fat... it doesn't incourage it, it just makes the world that little bit more realistic, in the sense of people who eat and do next to nothing ( Jarls ) should have a bit more weight gain... as a matter of fact that would most likely raise awareness. Or not, im just a pot head so im probably talkin writing [censored] right now lol .

Attributes and acrobatics are high on my list. I could do with branched dialogue too.

Stuff that was in Oblivion but isn't in Skyrim, particularly:-
  • Altar of Spellmaking - for making custom spells.
  • Feather - as an alteration spell for mages, perhaps as a perk?
  • The Gray Cowl - to assign imfamy to an alter ego.
  • Whistle - to get horse to approach the player.
Other stuff that I think is missing:
  • Clear indications in item descriptions showing information such as which spell books are already known, which items have an unknown enchantment on them, which books have been read.
  • Talking of books, it'd be great if these had some form of optional narration, so that players can hear lore, clues etc while moving through the game world. Ideally the narration would consist of some additional voice acting (perhaps as a DLC) or, failing that, via text-to-speech system (such as Ivona).
  • An improved navigation UI: Lots of white icons is just confusing - would be better if the 10 (?) nearest were colour coded on the map and compass.
  • Obviously Skyrim could do with some more patches to fix buggy quests (e.g. "Purity" in which Vilkas/Farkas "forgets" to tag along, "Pantea's Flute" in which the flute quest item remains after the quest is completed) and performance issues (e.g. occasional crashes and inexplicable drops in framerate in areas that are normally fine)
  • Some indication when we might expect an official DLC to appear (roughly).
Edit: Expanded on optional narration.

Definitely whistle. It would be very useful. But do you really want DLC? I don't think it's needed. Maybe in a year or so after the release. The game is sufficiently expansive.

I'm at the point where I've done pretty much all of the non-radiant quests. The Radiant quest system is good filler, but it's no substitute for more "handcrafted" content.

If Fallout 3 DLC release dates are anything to go by then we could see the first DLC next month. Fallout 3 appeared in Oct'08 with PC DLCs appears as follows: Operation Anchorage -Jan'09, The Pitt -Mar'09, Broken Steel -May'09, Point Lookout -Jun'09, Mothership Zeta -Aug'09 (source: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_add-ons).

Way more (and better looking) unenchanted robes and hoods for mages avaiable. I can forge all this nice armor and put multiple enchantments on it, but almost no unenchanted robes around and zero hoods. What they do have looks like ass. Almost wish they had a tailoring skill, like smithing for mages.

More fantasy creatures. Other than dragons, giants, spriggons, and the endless parade of dragurs, most everything else is just mundane wildlife.

Better guild questlines. Thief and DB were alright, but Companions and College ones were weak. No rank progression as before in Morrowind and Oblivion. Just a few story-related fetch missions and you go from recruit to guild leader...

I'd really like to see the next TES or perhaps even another game entirely do the economy right. Having items and gold just pop into shops lets us pretend, but there's nothing real about it. I'd like to see NPCs gather resources, other NPCs craft items, and actual work need be done to get that item to you in a shop. Quests could make sense... like "we need the mine cleared of bandits or we're not going to be able to make you stuff"... or "if only I had one rare ingredient, I'd be able to make you a really great potion".

It's probably too computer intensive for these modern computers which have to use 95% of their resources to make cloth look real. I'd trade.

One big thing Skyrim is missing is some proper multiplayer action. I'm not suggesting an Skyrim/ES MMO (although that would be nice), but perhaps something where upto 8 players-ish can play in the same world, with one players PC acting as a skyrim server. That is, something along the lines of Two Worlds, but less broken

Edit: It'd also be kinda nice if Dovahkiin, horses, companions, mobs etc left a finite trail footprints in the snow too.

the ability to cast fire and ice in one hand and cast paralization and shock in the other (yes 4 effects at once would be nice)

or the ability to use dual castign with 2 dirrent spell types of the same school (or diffrent schools if the other school also unlcoked dual casting)

leviate is missing (read http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:A_Hypothetical_Treachery)

As many have said here, 'depth, balance and polish'. But with TES polish has always come later. Balance has always been the domain of modders because the playstation crowd will complain it's not 'challenging' enough. Depth is where I have a bone to pick. And this goes for the previous titles as well: while there's plenty to do and the game is still filling, I'm not surte it's completely satisfying. Yes Oblivion was 'dumber' than Morrowind, but I feel that Skyrim has plumbed new depths in simplcity of story. I'd like to see branching quests with multiple possible endings. That goes for the main quest of course but should also go for various guild questlines and even some of the scripted standalone jobs. I think they were lazy in this respect.

I think it's missing the feature where I can flip my shield around and use it as a sled on Skyrim's mountainous landscape. It's also missing the enchantment of making it a superpowered sled, like the one in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Richer storytelling. Add some more mystique, cultural riddles, ancient secrets and hidden histories to uncover. Morrowind was rich with these.

I don't know how Skyrim was developed exactly, but I imagine they had different teams working on different regions. The guys who did the Reach really made that region interesting by adding rival cultures like the Forsworn and the Orc strongholds. Its a pity they did not delve further into those quest-wise.

I agree with a lot that has been said.

One thing in addition I feel the magic system is missing is being able to combine different spells together for unique effects (like in the game Magicka). To me the spell system is begging for that.

Depth.

Doesn't matter where; in GENERAL it needs depth. Depth in lore? We need more. Depth in NPCs? Yep. Depth in factions? Definitely missing.
