What do you do when one of your followers die?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:35 pm

Recently I accidentally smacked Faendel in the face with my steel sword while trying to kill a Bandit Chief and unfortunately he died. I had him for about two days, I picked him up as soon as I escaped Helgen. After I saw him die I dragged his body to a nearby tree and decided to lay some flowers next to him and I also lit a torch near his corpse to remember where I put him.
So I just wanted to know if you guys give your dead followers a funeral.

I throw them in a nearby river or off a cliff, it has to be done.

Thralls need to know their place, if they fail me they will suffer the same fate.

I have a moment of silence. Not in mourning, but usually astonishment like "Did that idiot really run in front of my arrow?"

I either reload a previous save, take my stuff back and throw their corpse off a cliff, rage and punch them a lot, or laugh and go on my own merry way.

Edit: Holy crap, triple ninja'd for second post!

Dump them in a nearby River and watch them float away. My way of a proper burial

Well when my follower dies I usually I blame myself. The last follower Ive murdered was Faendal as well... after leaving Riverwood, met an imperial patrol and released the prisoner. The patrol raised hell against us, everything was going well until Faendal killed the last imperial and ended up right on the way of my last blow. Then a cinematic camera took place, showing myself when I pulled the elf and thrusted my sword on his back, setting the story for my character that was arrested for murder in Whiterun and spent several years in prison, going mad and becoming a berserker Ulfric supporter. A very wicked one.

I put them some place appropriate (not in the middle of the road) and maybe leave a flower on them. When Lydia got killed early in a game, I took her armor - it was better than the iron thing I had, and it was like a little memory of her.

I only do this with to followers I dislike, though. If I like them, I reload. :)

The only follower I've actually accidentally killed, was Meeko. I loved that mangey mutt. Well.. aside from the barking..... and stopping at every bush, tree, and shrub in skyrim..... and the fleas..... and him wanting to cuddle on cold nights...

He faithfully served me as he did his previous master and when I lost him I actually drug the corpse up onto the top of the nearest cliff I could find and tucked him under a tree so he would have a nice view. Gave him some scraps of meat out of inventory and put two gold coins in his for his toll. Eh.. might have been a bit much come to think about it, but it seemed proper.

I reload, especially since I use Kharjo, my Nord's khajiit best friend from his mercenary days.

I like Kharjo's personality.

If I put a lot of effort into a follower, a la Belrand with a set of Legendary Ebony Armor, I will reload a save. If not then I just let them lie where they died.

I actually grow close to my follower. I had Feandal once but I attacked some Thalmor and after they died, he attacked me? Damn, I liked him too.

I've used Belrand for the first time on my current playthrough and I've come to like him quite a lot. But...er... you do realize he's a Light Armor guy, right? Giving him Heavy isn't really playing to his strengths.

Beh, keep up or shut up.
I did take a liking to the followers when I first started to play the game, then I started to notice just how much of a pain in the ass they can / will be. If they don't rush in and give you away then they just flat out get in the way and you end up killing them by mistake. The only follower that has yet to piss me off is Janessa, but even then I hardly ever take her with me.

Quickload. Unless a followers death is required by the plot it's a failure on my part, and for that there is loading.

But since Skyrim's followers are stupid i don't use them. If they were like the Pawns in Dragon's Dogma, who actually can use their skills and items in a more or less intelligent manner, i'd certainly have them around.

HAHAHAHA, I usually go alone too. Esp since my char is a Thief Assassin. I bring a follower along for loot carrying purposes but leave them waiting in already cleared areas so they don't blow my cover.
