Character back story:
Character name: Gug
Born a tribal in a village south of the Mojave, Gug was never the smartest. Actually, his intelligence was often regarded as "slightly dumber than a rock". However, for as dumb as Gug was, it was more than offset by his incredible strength, endurance, and ironically, his luck. "You have to be lucky to be that dumb and not accidentally eat yourself", regarded the village elder. As a child, Gug would spend his day staring off into space mindlessly while drooling on himself. Many of the villagers believed that his sub human level of intelligence could be blamed on his mother's getting stung by a bark scorpion when she was pregnant with him.
Due to his stupidity, Gug could only do manual labor and obey simple commands such as "pick that up" "Put thing there" or "No chew moo moos" when he would attempt to gnaw on the leg of one of the village Brahmin. When faced with complex problems, Gug's only means of solving them was to hit them with something, whether it be his fists or a crude club he carried with him.
Everyone though Gug was hopeless, that he would wander as a mindless mute for the rest of his days, whose only use would to be a bipedal beast of burden. Then, one day, when he was 13, Gug spoke his first words. "Gug hungry". His parents, as well as the villagers within earshot, stood awe struck. They stared at Gug in sheer amazement as he spoke again. "Gug poop". Granted, these were hardly the musings of a poet or the rehtoric of a philosopher, but considering it took him 13 years to learn how to even speak, it gave the village hope that Gug would be at least all right in his life.
Life was going smooth for Gug, at least by his standards, until he was 20 years old. One fateful day, Gug had wandered off into the wilderness while chasing a gecko he wanted to eat. While he was away, raiders attacked his village, killing or enslaving the villagers. 2 days later, after contemplating chewing on a rock he found and deciding to save it for later, Gug returned to town. Everyone was laying on the ground leaking red water. Even one as feebleminded as Gug understood that they were all dead. Not knowing who did it, or where they had gone, Gug left.
For a month, he wandered north until he was found by a caravan. They gave him food and water and took him to a town. Gug had never seen a place like this. For 3 days, he stared in amazement at a brick wall uttering the phraze "So pretty" to himself. Eventually, the postmaster at the local Mojave Express came over to Gug and offered him caps to take a package to the strip in Vegas, if only to get him away from his business and out of the street. After convincing Gug the caps and package weren't food and preventing him from eating them, the post Master told Gug to follow the big lights to the big city and to take the package to the big white pointy thing building. It took Gug an hour or so to process the postmaster's orders before setting out on his job.
Just outside Good Springs, Benny and the Great Khans were lying in wait for Gug. When they saw him, they attacked. Unfortunately, it took several blows to the head with a shovel to even faze Gug, who merely looked at them in confusion. Eventually, Gug became tired and went to sleep, leaving Benny and the Khans dumbfounded. He had taken a 5 man beat down and didnt even flinch. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, they tied him up and dragged him over to the graveyard.
When Gug awoke, he found himself tied up. Reacting like any creature of instinct, Gug began to thrash about, yelling incoherently. It was then that he saw Benny holding the package he was to deliver. "Give thing back!", shouted Gug. Although Benny spoke, Gug did not hear him. All he cared about was getting free, getting back the package, and smashing the man in the strange suit for taking it and tieing him up. Benny shot Gug in the head, but Gug continued to thrash about in a rage. "How the hell did he survive that?!", exclaimed on the of Khans. It took 2 more rounds to put Gug down. When the raging tribal finally stopped moving, the Khans rolled him into the grave and buried him.
A few days later, Gug found himself in a strange bed in a strange place with a strange man sitting next to him. The man identified himself as Doc Mitchell. However, Gug could care less. All he remembered was the man in the strange suit shooting him. Gug stood up out of bed and began to walk out. Before he could the Doc stopped him. Doc Mitchell was amazed at how quickly Gug was about to get up and move around after such severe head injuries. Taking Gug over to the Vito Matic machine, Doc Mitchel told him to test his strength on the machine. Gug responded by ripping the handle off of the machine and handing it to the Doc. Doc Mitchell was astounded by Gug's strength.
Next, to test Gug's mental acuity, he held up three fingers and asked how many were up. Gug stared at the Doc's hand for a moment then answered. "Bacon", he said. The Doc looked at his hand then back at Gug. "Well, son, I guess that answers how you survived. There was nothing in there to damage in the first place", he said. Gug responded by picking up some surgical tubing off of the floor and chewing on it.
With there being nothing else he could do for Gug, the Doc gave him his old vault jump suit, a pip-boy, and some supplies then led Gug to the door. As Gug left, the Doc couldnt help but wonder what adventures awaited this odd young man. Would he find what he was looking for? Would he go on to have grand adventures? Would he meet with a destiny that could change the world? However, the Doc's wonderings were soon interrupted by the sounds of muffeled yelling and metal being struck. He looked around to see Gug with his head stuck in a mailbox, punching it and shouting as he struggled to get free. It was at this point that the Doc let out a sigh of disappointment.
"Would'a been better off leaving him with the bullets in his brain", he thought as he went back into his house......
