I was going to post the story of my Imperial mage, but I just realised that I don't have much of an idea of what his pre-Skyrim life entailed, and I rushed through the CoW questline :wallbash:

I bought Skyrim mid April and have had a character from then. I haven't played it extensively but he was level 17, and today I decided to start again because I felt really disaccociated with my character as I didn't come up with any story for him.

I feel a lot better now, even though I have so much to do all over again.

I'm not great at telling stories but here goes:
One of my character's names is Ser Aleksander, and he's a Redguard. He was born in Hammerfell and grew up training to fight with sword and shield for the honor of his family. (THis is where his story may break lore but oh well) He became a knight and fought for his lord and land, and won many battles, growing his dreadlocks long and proud. One day however, his lord ordered Aleksander and other knights to destroy a village filled not with warriors but with women and children. Aleksander, an honorable warrior, refused, and instead turned on his fellow knights before fleeing into the desert. He eventually came across a band of mercenaries calling themselves The White Hand, and had his face painted with their symbol(the white hand). He also shaved the sides of his head, signifying his renunciation of formal knighthood. The mecenaries became like brothers to him, and they made their money off protecting caravans and waging war for minor lords, and he was rolling in money. However, in a cruel twist of fate, his mercenary band was contracted to fight the very knights Aleksander had just left. THe battle was long, and a victory was won, but not before Aleksander gained a horrible wound across his left eye, causing the eye to become white with permanent blindness. THe White Hand suffered huge casualties, and fell apart after the battle. Aleksander hooked up with a caravan and acted as a paid guard, traveling across Hammerfell, and eventually crossing the border into Cyrodil. Hearing of war brewing in Skyrim, and longing for battle, Aleksander took his leave of the caravan and crossed the border into SKyrim. After being captured by the Imperials, and escaping Helgen, he made his way through Riverwood and down to WHiterun. THere he met the Companions, a group that reminded him so much of his old knighthood. Joining the COmpanions, he worked for them and fought beside them until (*possible spoiler*) becoming a werewolf. As he brought the Companion quests to a close, he found himself struggling to maintain control of his inner beast, and one day lost control completely, spending days in the forests around Falkreath. Knowing he could not face his Companion brothers without gaining control of his powers, he dropped off the map, joining up with the seedier elements of Skyrim. He still struggles to control his werewolf aspects today, and has deep-rooted connections in the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, two guilds his former honor would not have allowed him to join. What damage his guilt will cause in the future is unknown.

Soren Crow-Eye - Nord Male

Born in the city of Markarth during the Forsworn uprising. Soren's parents were his Nord father and Forsworn (Breton) mother. His parents were killed when Ulfric Stormcloak stormed the city killing the Forsworn and "collaborators". Still a toddler, Soren was sent to Cyrodil to live with his uncle (a traveling Vigilant of Stendarr).

Soren was raised to be wary of the dangers of dark powers, but thanks to his mother's Breton blood, he found himself somewhat skilled in the magical arts. After serving his Vigilant uncle as squire for many years, Soren has now reached full advlthood and has decided to sneak across the border to Skyrim to join the College of Winterhold and perhaps to join the Empire against the Stormcloak Rebellion.

So it is somewhat ironic when he wanders into an ambush and is mistaken for one of the rebels...

Hi guys, I'm new to the Elder Scrolls series. Even though I don't have that background, I created a backstory from in-game cues as a Breton:

- In the start, on the cart, Ralof the Stormcloak suggests my character was sneakily crossing the border
- Getting off the cart, Hadvar suggests perhaps my character fled from High Rock's political intrigue
- Bretons are more magically-inclined, from their daily power and the bonus spell, Summon Familiar (Wolf)
- My character's conversations suggest she's kind of naive, but Jarls/Archmages/everyone seems to trust her
- And then it turns out she is a Dragonborn, having the powers (perhaps the bloodline) of the Septim Emperors

So I just put these ingredients together and cooked up a backstory, I hope it's interesting to you guys just because you might find it a fresh perspective.

---

My character was a young Breton noble, raised in a protective environment, so she had few real world skills, only what her tutors taught her in arcane studies.

Her family was weak politically, its only claim to power was that it had a very distant blood relation to Septim royalty (due to some wild womanising Emperor past).

She herself was unremarkable. Her only strength was in Conjuring, where she instinctively learned to summon the spirit a beloved deceased pet wolfhound.

Her most trusted advisors told her that usurpers were conspiring against her, plotting her death, that she must flee to somewhere they'll never find her.

These trusted advisors suggested she go to Skyrim's Winterhold College for mages, due to its isolation, plus she had a knack for Conjuration magic to fit in.

So she fled, having to fend for herself for the 1st time, relying on her pet ghost dog familiar to sneak into Skyrim. However, there, she started to really shine.

Her courtly upbringing, useless in practical situations, were helpful in political crises with Jarls and Archmagi and Imperial Generals alike, who came to trust her.

She would then rise to power, becoming the Last Dragonborn of prophecy and the Archmage of Winterhold, from her own achievements rather than inheriting it.

The Plot Twist - her most trusted advisors? They WERE the conspiring usurpers, lying to her to drive her far away to Skyrim, where they hope she'll just die off.

The Kharmic Backlash - but in doing so, they actually drove her to where she learned to be a leader, and one day she'll return to reclaim her rightful throne.

---

Skyrim let me make one of my best character backstories, due to those in-game cues, but also it leaves this nice open ending so the game's never really over.
