What's your favorite dungeon?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:00 am

I hate dungeons, they're full of nothing but nasties wanting to eat you for taking their treasure, every time I go down into a dungeon I curse myself, thinking, this could be the last time I see daylight.

My faveourite dungeon would be any where I get in and out within five minutes with the item / treasure in hand and leave the boss with his thumb in his a$$ going "Derp!"

Alftand for me because it was the first Dwemer one I found after encountering it's exit elevator. Once I went into the real entrance it took about 4 hours to explore.

Probably Alftand/Blackreach for the initial 'wow' factor.

To be honest though, I wasn't very impressed with Skyrim's dungeons as a whole. They needed to be darker, longer, and less linear, with more unique items to be found.

If your serious, your the reason why the dungeons are becoming more simplified

I agree that Skyrim's dungeons are a HUGE improvement over Oblivion's. However, I had no problem with the copy/paste in OB. I still enjoyed them. That said, my fave so far is Illinalta's Deep.

I would love a few of these :
[Hits level 30]
[Courier delivers note, "you have come to my attention, blah, blah, reward for retrieving etc.", and three keys]
[Enter dungeon, Key removed from inventory.]
[Books, puzzles, clues, choice of two paths, Key removed from inventory]
[More clues, big bad boss, choice of three paths, Key removed from inventory, get outside, portcullis clangs shut, do you have the treasure, or not?]

The ability to reload and take all paths, just to see, wouldn't detract from those of us who would appreciate this and wouldn't reload.

And let's face it, go left or right, come back, go right or left this time is still effectively linear. Branches, not detours.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Alftand. That place was amazing the first time I entered it, with an amazing backstory that actually served as my introduction to the Dwemer. And I was scared [censored]less the whole time. :bolt:

Alftand was definitely one of the better ones I've been through. I've still got to go back to Blackreach to finish that nirnroot quest and do a little more exploring.

Alftand was my favourite, since it was the largest non-quest related dungeon that I had been through.

I realise that it is a quest-related dungeon, but I hadn't started the quest at that time.

It literally blew my mind; I must have been in there for hours.

Ansilvund. Wandered in by mistake, and it was one of the most grueling, most fun dungeon crawls ever. I do wish that the Ghostblade was a little bit better, considering how much trouble you have to go through just to get it.

Also, who on earth actually thinks the Oblivion dungeons were better than Skyrim dungeons? One of the biggest complaints about Oblivion was the derivative style of the dungeons. There's nostalgia, and then there's dementia.

Oblivion at least had branching paths.

I will grant you that. Many of Skyrim's dungeons are very linear.

My favorite is Ansilvund. Really liked that it had a story of its own.

Haven`t been through much dungeons yet though.

The same people who claim that Morrowind's combat is better than Skyrim's or Oblivion's.

Blackreach ... hands down. I use it to travel sometimes, just for fun. When I get there I run around and open all the lifts and then you can use the place.

To travel. The whole thing covers a surprisingly large area of underground Skyrim and you can go down in one place and come up a long way from there. It's not terribly practical but I really like Blackreach.

Most dungeons are pretty easy to go through I started to not take them too seriously. When I stumbled on this place called "Sightless Pit" I wasn't too worried. In fact, I hadn't even re-equipped my weapon and was wearing light armor thinking if something happened my follower could hold them off till I readied my weapon. When things started to happen it was fast and furious and thenhttp://i41.tinypic.com/33w2ucw.jpgI died shortly after this screenie was captured. My level 29 character never dies so this experience has taught me not to be complacent. When I go back there I will be prepared. This is now my favorite dungeon--I like a good challenge.

Au contraire, he is just bored with the simple dungeon-mechanics. The dungeons themselves look fantastic but I don't do any dungeon-crawling anymore since it's too linear. I suppose if dungeons had more interesting content, he'd enjoy them more.

Blackreach one of the few dungeons that impressed me

Since my current character is a necromancer I have no problem raising this zombie. After two characters and over 300 hours I finally made it into Blackreach. This character is actually going to try to do the MQ. I am truly enjoying Blackreach. I have two problems though. 1) There is so much to look at/explore it will take me real days to find what I'm in here for. 2) Belrand has vanished. I swam across some water near Sindarion's place and main entrance. Apparently he didn't follow and now I have no idea where he is. Maybe I will find him one day. If he died down there I hope I find his body so I can get some of the kit off of him. Frankly I don't really care. I'm enjoying this place far too much.

White River Watch(?) The one just to the east of Whiterun with the blind man.

It's a great starter dungeon/cave and I love the way it spirals up and around leading you to the exit outside and higher up the mountain. The bandit chief there was my first truly hard fight which I just won so it always sticks in my mind. It also has a believable story behind it and the loot was good too. To top it off there is a great view of Whiterun and the surrounding moutains and plains which portend the journey ahead of me.

It's a great starting point for any young adventurer.

Ysgramors Tomb and Saarthal. Both have some amazing Lore behind them ... Ysgramors Tomb is ... well, the Tomb of Ysgramor. You cant access it without the axe he wielded when leading the first humans to Tamriel. And Saarthal is the first city of man, I believe, or the first Nord city or something along those lines.
