What's Your Race?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:13 pm

I just started a new character with the 1.5 patch and I decided to play as a Khajitt. When it comes to picking a race, how does everyone else decide on what race they will play? Do you like to experiment with a race you would normally never play as, or do you keep it pretty mainstream and have a tried-and-true race? And, once you've picked your race do you stay faithful to that race's specific abilities (stealth, magic, combat, etc.), or do you break the mold and customize? So far I've made a Dark Elf, Orc and now Khajitt.

Depends on what class I'm going to roll. My favorite class is Imperials because I can relate to those characters much better. I feel more of a connection with the game and story.

I also like it from a 'story' point of view; Imperials are smaller and less skilled in magic, but always seem to end up on top.

Call me stereotypical, but I like playing a Nord. I have a Khajiit thief, an Argonian summoner, and a Dunmer Destro mage as well, but I tend to have the most fun playing a Nord one-hander or a Nord two-hander. Call me crazy.

I usually stick with races I like, in order from most like to least: Khajiit, Argonian, Breton, Dark Elf, and Redguard or Nord. You'll almost never catch me playing an Imperial, Bosmer, Orc, or High Elf except on the rarest of occasions.

I like races that are more animal-like, so I normally play as a Khajiit. I love cats, and Khajiit are cats... Not much else to say about that.

Interesting responses, thanks.

Myself, I tend to dabble here and there. Sometimes I like "traditional" builds (like my barbarian orc). And other times I feel adventurous and want to try something completely new, like my Khajiit. (Sorry, I noticed I misspelled it above.)

Also, I tend to play the strengths of the race I've chosen, and I don't really deviate away from them. So for my orc I invested in all the combat perks and armor. To me it doesn't make sense to go against the grain when it comes to that. You could play a mage orc, but why would you want to when they're more proficient for combat, you know?

I have three charcters I always make. An Imperial is my primary, as I like playing as a character I can relate to (so I make him look like me). The second character I make is a Khajiit, just because I like the way they look, sound, and the lore surrounding them. The last character I use is a Breton mage, this one I use primarily because of the boost in magic, and because I can't stand the Altmer (even before the Thalmor).

Interestingly enough, the Breton is the only character I play to its race's strength. The Imperial is a sneaky, two-handed, alchemist, and the Khajiit is a heavy armored brute. I really just play races that I like to look at, and don't really think about if there racials match their class.

Dispite my user name I'm a Bosmer at heart.
I love archery, sneaking and alchemy,so alot of my characters are Bosmer archers.
They can go down different paths, one could be all stealth thief and another could be a mixture of stealth archery and warrior archer.

I've played alot of characters and have tried them all but Bosmer are my favorite.
I guess second would be either Orc or Nord.

A dunmer conjurer/battlemage. Very fun. Right now I'm trying not to summon 2 dremoras at once every time Im having trouble in battle, it's way too easy. I also have a Nord sword and shield warrior, and a khajiit which Im still not really sure on.

I do like Dunmer, but I've actually split from my norm. I've sort of fallen in love with the Khajiit, after reading all of the lore I could find on them, I found that I really enjoy it. So, I made J'saad as a dual wield warrior in heavy armor. Since they are mostly a cold weather breed (Cathay-Raht) I decided that it would be a good fit for that character. I wouldn't mind some sort of unarmed skill or something, but dual wield gives me the sense of an agile heavy type infantry that you could see as a fighting force for a Khajiit tribe.

I also really like the unique look of the Khajiit, they are different from all of the other races, being bi-pedal the only thing they share with other races.

EDIT: I'm also thinking that the Khajiit will be my new main race I play in the TES games from here on out.

Pretty much just on appearance/how good they look. Skill bonuses and racial powers aren't terribly important. My two default characters were Imperial and Nord. Now I'm trying a mage-type character, and some mods... race I'm using is out of the Bella's Dark Races mod.

I like to role-play so I usually pick a race that would fit the style for me.

Nord Warrior that joins the Stormcloaks
Imperial Paladin
Altmer Pure Mage
Bosmer Archer

Usually a Dunmer Archer, who sides with the Imperials. I like the initial skills, but I mostly go with Dunmer because of the 50% fire resistance. With it, its so easy to kill most dragons. Although the special ability is not that great.

My first char was Wood elf, for I like archers and dexterous warriors, but at some time Ive started trying other races, do a bit of roleplaying, an Argonian assassin, an Imperial vampire merchant, Nord werewolf... Right now Im playing a High Elf Vampire, destruction based, cold. But Ive realized the character that most fit my daedric pursuits is a Dunmer, I believe Ive played Dunmer more than any other race. They are just too chaotic, in matters of roleplaying its hard to be anything else in Skyrim.

Imperial all the way :)
I've tryed all races and i make a decision: i like human races, Imperial, Breton, Nord (only because the fit best with the role of Dovakhiin)... elves are made worse than ever, i prefer the WoW way of them... Argonians and Khajiits (especially this race for my thief build) are Ok, but Orcs... no i really don't like them!..
