what is your winter wear?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:44 am

Depends

In the classroom: Cords, button down shirt, undershirt, long john bottoms

In the field: Polypro tops and bottoms, jeans, hoody, heavy winter jacket of somesort, hat, leather hand wear with liners (choopers/leather mittens if really cold) Might throw on snow pants if needed.

Have you got any snow yet? I had some lake effect snow in Milwaukee today but other than that it's just been rainy.

Jeans, thick wool socks, hiking boots, a tuque, and a thick flannel jacket. Winter is warm here in the Okanagan, we are lucky if we've had snow that sticks by Christmas. I don't even own snow pants or a winter jacket.

A Kanuk wintercoat with a hoodie for the upper body. Northface winter pants over my jeans. A pair of warm boots with wool socks. Finally, for the head, a regular knit hat under a hood.
Oh, and a pair of mittens under which I also wear a pair of gloves.

It takes me some time to wear the whole outfit when I go outside, but I'm never cold. While I'm warm anywhere, my eyes are exposed to the cold, which is perfect. It should be noted that I do not wear all of this when I plan to use the subway...I don't want to melt at the station. But if I plan on taking walks or when I have to shovel snow when it's under -15 to -40, that's my outfit.

It's the perfect outfit for jumping in the pile of snow you've just shoveled. ^_^

Edit: And I forgot. Snowshoes under my boots if I'm going to take a walk in the snowy woods.

I like layers more than a single large coat. When I hiked the Andes mountains from late June to late July (winter in the Southern hemisphere) I made due with a regular pair of hiking pants, a tshirt, a light fleece, a medium fleece, and alternated between an alpaca poncho and an alpaca hoodie. Except for the poncho, it could all be compressed into a ball slightly larger than a graqefruit, a necessity when you trek and are carrying your life on your back. Layering is much more adaptable and manageable than one large coat. If I had to pick one large coat though for day to day stuff, it has to be my Carhart. Tough as nails and sixy too ;)

I typed this on my phone, my apologies for any awkward autocorrections.

In my house shorts and tank tops outside, sweats (they're a hell a lot warmer then jeans), a t-shirt and a heavy jacket.

Come up North into the mountains and experience a Real Canadian winter and you will bundle up good.

Anyway, if I'm in the snow for awhile then. Big Ski-Coat a Took some gloves my snowboarding boots and some snow pants. I will also where my ski-mask usually. Time to time I toss in some boot warmers to keep my feet warm and some in my gloves. Under the gear I usually have a sweater. Jeans usually suffice under snow pants. I don’t want to be to warm if I’m moving around a lot.

In Oklahoma it gets the windy cold which may not be as cold as our northern breathern but its windy and chilly and sometimes rainy or snowy its freaken miserable and I love it

Slimfit wollen-cardigans, wollen-shirts, wollen-jumpers(European design), boots(designerboots OC), slimfit leather jacket and a matching hat. And leather gloves. And stylish scarfs. And slimfit jeans.

A nice chunky brown coat with a fake fur inside that I've had for a couple of years. Usually with a thick jumper underneath. Then a hat with ear flaps, a chunky scarf, a pair of gloves. I've got a pair of boots with impressive grip on the soles I wear when it snows (with two pairs of thick socks, of course  ). Sometimes I wear tights underneath my trousers as well. I have thin blood and get very cold easily, so I always make sure to wrap up well.

I didn't even catch that!

And so it's not spam...

For shoes it's generally office style shoes i the classroom, hiking boots when I"m teaching or there's not much snow, or Sorrels/pack boots when the snow or mud gets too deep.

I stay inside most of the time so I don't really need anything to keep me warm in the cold outside.

I rather enjoy the cold. Just a pair of jeans, and my leather jacket, even on the worst days.

Windbreak, school blazer, tie, school shirt, school pants.

Schoolwear aside: Pair of jeans, t-shirt, windbreak. Depending on how cold it is I will wear my jacket underneath. If it snows I wear gloves (hate picking up snow without gloves).

I switch from shorts to jeans about November 1st. Still wear the same t-shirts. About the only necessity is a light jacket early in the morning or the evenings. Northern California's winter weather is pretty mild. Right now its just above freezing at night, but back up to the low 60s during the day (and sunny).

Jeans and shorts with a sweatshirt. It's actually a bit chilly today for us. Around 60F or 16 C.

Right now it's jeans and a T-shirt, it's supposed to actually get cold soon though. At that point, I'll throw on a jacket, nothing major. :D
