What is your zodiac sign?

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 12:21 am

Let the people believe what they want, it's their choice.

Exactly. We don't judge people for their religious beliefs, so how can we so easily call other kinds of beliefs BS?

Why does it matter if it's real or not? Let people believe what they want, you wouldn't appreciate it if people did the same to you so why do it to others?

What is your zodiac sign? Do you think it represents you? Do you believe in Astrology?

We don't judge people for their religious beliefs, so how can we so easily call other kinds of beliefs BS?

If you don't want to hear your beliefs called BS then don't ask others if they believe the same thing. You asked for opinions, you got them.

Aren't there thirteen zodiac signs now? With 12 i'm Libra, with 13 i'm Virgo. How Virgos are supposed to be does fit me better ^_^

Edit, there's nothing Google can't find (:cold:) http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/13/horoscope-hang-up-earth-rotation-changes-zodiac-signs/

Leo and it's all BS.

This

You guys need to have more faith. Just because it doesn't make sense that the constellation the sun was in on your birthday like 1,000 years ago determines your personality and what happens to you on a day-to-day basis doesn't mean it's not true.

It also doesn't mean it is true

Pisces. :mohawk:

I don't really believe in any of it, but it has cool symbols, so that makes it okay in my books.

I don't even think Atrology qualifies a belief, I think its a Pseudoscience. Its like Phrenology where you determine someones personality by measuring their head.

I don't think that's a particularly helpful approach. I'm rather sceptical of astrology and admit that I've occasionally made less than positive remarks about it, but I think in a discussion involving people who do believe in it, taking a confrontational approach generates more heat than light. Same goes for pretty much any belief or lack thereof; whether or not you think anything of the belief itself, a little respect for the people in question doesn't hurt.

Not really. I believe it because I want to, because it seems real to me, and because of my experiences. Just like some people believe in God, in different religions, or superstitions, and some don't, I believe in Astrology. I don't need convincing.

Fair enough. And I'll exert my freedom of speech by saying that I think that being willing to believe something without any evidence is an incredibly silly, naive and not to mention dangerous attitude to have.

Exactly. We don't judge people for their religious beliefs, so how can we so easily call other kinds of beliefs BS?

We judge people based on everything, including their beliefs. It's human nature.

Why does it matter if it's real or not?

Because the more people that believe in this sort of rubbish without being willing to ask why, the slower we'll progress as a society. Positive change has only ever been made by people questioning things.

Saying you don't believe in something is one thing, insulting a belief is another.

I, like everyone else, have every right to criticize a belief system. If somebody said to me that they based all major decisions on the advice of a giant pink rabbit that only they could see, I'd think there was something very wrong with them. Just because alot of people choose to describe to a certain belief system, doesn't mean it's any less deserving of the same criticism, if said believers can't provide any evidence to back it up.

a little respect for the people in question doesn't hurt.

Respecting a person and respecting their beliefs are not the same thing.

True, but I think striding in with all guns blazing still shows a degree of disrespect for that person: it's possible to debate beliefs in a more amenable manner, and to not insist on one's right to force the issue. Of course there's nothing stopping anyone from doing just that, but the point is that I don't think it tends to go anywhere useful.

Well what can I say? Many, myself included, see zodiac signs and the like as an affront to their own beliefs, the same as calling ones beliefs BS. Again, my advice would be to not start a topic asking for opinions about it if you don't want to hear people's strong feelings. I don't mean to come off as hostile nor do I think you do either.

Respecting a person and respecting their beliefs are not the same thing.

Exactly. I absolutely respect every poster here and their right to believe whatever they want. I have no interest in trying to convince them out of their beliefs or telling them they can't believe in it. However, I do not like certain beliefs and I view them as detrimental to society and humanity.

Sorry to ask but, do you think religions are silly too?

I may or may not agree with people's opinions, and different opinions are a good thing, but a line is crossed when people lack respect when opposing an idea. Using words like "silly" and "BS" like someone else did, are disrespectful.

I don't thing Astrology can be "dangerous" as long as you don't lead your life according to it. (and I stated I don't believe in daily horoscopes because of it)

Can't we have a civil discussion? Without offending anyone?

Don't make me have to lock this because of all the bickering! Either reply on topic (i.e. not arguing about "belief") or not at all.

:stare:
-------------------------------------------------------------

According to the My Personality app on Facebook:

You do not have a Scorpio personality...
The Scorpio personality is described as deep, complex, inquisitive and mysterious, suggesting an above-average openness trait score. This is accurate for you.
It is also described as purposeful and "keenly perceptive", suggesting an above-average conscientiousness trait score, and that is indeed what you have!

The Scorpio personality is described on the one hand as "magnetic" and inspiring while leading others. On the other hand one "can live with a Scorpio partner for years without knowing them", and they "can be detached". Overall this probably suggests an average extraversion trait score, depending upon the situation. You are actually far more outgoing than the average, you would not be described as "detached".
The Scorpio personality is one that "will never forget or forgive" after you fall out badly with them, and is also described as aggressive, jealous and suspicious. This suggests a below-average agreeableness trait score, however, your agreeableness trait score is actually above the average.
The Scorpio personality has "extraordinary emotional depths" and sensitivity, and when they are negative about someone or themselves, they "tend to get their own way", the hallmarks of a very high neuroticism trait score. However, your neuroticism trait score is actually below average.
Overall therefore, your star sign has accurately predicted 2 out of 5 traits, which means that you are hardly a Scorpio at all!

Bickering? I went back and reread this thread and I'm of the opinion it's been a fairly civil debate so far.

That's all I want to say. Since we're seemingly no longer allowed to take this thread beyond copying and pasting our zodiac traits, this is my last post in it.

And I guess to keep on topic:

Cancer:
Emotional and loving
Intuitive and imaginative
Shrewd and cautious
Protective and sympathetic
