Where are my feet?!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:30 pm

Hey guys,

did you ever wonder why you cant see your feet or body in first person view.
You have two arms, a sword and a shield, magicly hovering over the ground.Where did the rest go?Wabbajacked?! :cheat:

I mean games like The Darkness or Aliens vs Predator for example had a real first person view, why not Skyrim? It's not that difficult to do.

Chronicles of Riddike had it on the original Xbox. I think it's more of a lack of effort than a tech limitation.

I do. When I couldn't see how my feet looked in third person when trying to find out if the boots looked good with my outfit I tried to look at them in first person.

and your height is the same no matter your race you are in 1st person. If I played a high elf I would be as tall as a Nord in first person. But when I go into 3rd person mode it shows my character's real height.

Nope, never wondered that. Even after the piles of "Why can't I see my feet" / "total body awareness" threads that popped up in the months leading up to Skyrim, I still don't wonder where my feet are. Honestly, the videos I've seen of games that do this, look pretty awkward.

And I certainly don't understand the "I can't see my feet. I'm just a floating camera with forearms" thing that people said sometimes in those threads. I've never thought that. I pop into third person, or see my character in a menu, or see my FPS character in a mirror she walks by, and I know (without a shadow of a doubt) that this is what my character is. Even when I'm in first person mode and can just see my forearms.

edit: but, hey, that's just like my opinion, man.

True, now that i think about it..there is no shadow in first person view.I also noticed that there is no antialiasing in frist person...take a close look at your hands and weapons. The same thing in the inventory. Its not a big deal but i still wonder why.

So you can see the glorious dirt. Honestly, dirt is more interesting than feet.

So true.
'My character has eaten some sweetrolls, why can't I see his pot belly?!?!'
There are more important things in life than seeing your character's feet, people! I can just imagine them being awkward to look at, and they're probably a waste of time when you consider that you should probably look forward while fighting, exploring and just about everything else.

Isn't it obvious? Your feet have gone looking for your shadow. I am sure they will both return together.

You should exclude yourself since you didn't post any opinion at all...or anything productive.

Simply having it is fairly easy. The problem is that Skyrim is using the resources that you would need for those objects on other things. There are a lot of things going on in Skyrim that use up processing power, many things that these other games don't have.

To get a proper first person perspective in Skyrim, you'd have to sacrifice something else. I would vote for shadows since they work so horribly on my setup anyway  but most others wouldn't.

Plus, add to that I've never seen it done well before and so I have to commend Bethesda for using caution.

guess you're right...there is alot more processing going on in the background along with all the visible stuff on screen compared to other games.
