Now don't go ruling out all WW2 era weapons. The Browing M2 was created before WW2 and is still being used today. No sign of armies taking it out of service anytime soon. http://www.project610.com/files/concept04c.jpg showed .50 cal machine guns defending towns. (to bad they did not include it) Fallout Tactics had them as well as other weapons from before the end of the 1950's. In all logic the M2 Browning would have also been around in Fallout Universe for a very long time as well. They should be common.

Also keep in mind Fallout 3 has Lincoln's Repeater, from a museum so there is no reason to rule out WW2 era weapons turning up in that way. Not to mention that alot of people collect WW2 era weapons.

I agree however I can the Walther P-38 being In OWB as one of doctors (when Human) sidearms, whlist searching there Office you would find it in their safe or somthing...

Oh and chinese weapons are there becauseof the Chinese invasion Force that was in DC (and people helping them) because the Chinese wanted to capture DC Unlike Las vegas, which was just to be Nuked

To all the folks that said well why would WW2 era weapons be in the Big Empty, my theory: MAYBE the big empty was designed during WW2 in the fallout universe. And note i said designed. If it was a hidden government installation then it would be under heavy guard during construction. Also, if my theory were to be correct then don't you think a few german spies might try to infiltrate the big empty? Just my theory....... :fallout:

I'm not ruling them out just saying there shouldn't be a hundred lugers lying around I'd be okay if it was some old guards side arm but they should be limited to unique weapons.

Still doesn't explain the presence of WW 2 era weapons in a facility thats been active they'd have rearmed the facility when they upgraded everything else.

Well You have to consider why they were using BARs In The Sierra Madre. Maybe There just good enough weapons without upgrades.

What someone said about a M1 Carbine in 5mm sounds good (you then have a reasonably accurate, semi-automatic, high capacity weapon that shoots 5mm compared to the burst weapons). 5mm and 5.56mm are quite different in the game, so it wouldn't be a Service Rifle redress.

"Infantry Carbine" or something for the name.

M2 .50 (one gun using an ammunition type is kinda a waste, and the M2 does fit).

As a brit i would love to see the Lee-Enfield my self. the 20th and 19th century weapons mod for fallout 3 on pc was amazing for WW2 weapons, pretty sure it had all the weapons listed in it too. i dont know if someone imported it for new vegas not the full mod anyway, there was one with some of them from that mod but not all of them.

..50 Browning HMG is too damn big for Humans ot ever use except on a tripod or the like, so no use for Fallout unless they put them in non-movable mounts...or for super mutants

Bren Gun and Sterling would rock! (though the Sterling as we know it wasn't used in WW2...though I think some early models were used at Anheim?)

Bren = light machine gun with almost rifle accuracy and fast magazine change, reliable as heck. Should have accuracy (spread) problems though when not crouched as it wasn't meant to be used that way (should only be fired lying down using bipod) though it was often shown in dramatic poses being fired from the hip...which ruined the point of it's great accuracy.
Was used until quite recently by British Army (and many did not like it's crappy replacement, blech), and the Bren is still used here and there across the world.

Sterling = one of the few guns with a large magazine you can easily fire lying down and well, it's cool

Tell you one I'd love to see that few folk have heard of: The DeLisle Carbine .

British secret weapon developed for the SAS, SOE and similar units to snipe German officers/sentries silently.
Modified Lee-Enfield bolt action rifle, changed barrel etc, for a much shorter, very thick silencer/barrel, and fires .45 Colt Auto ammo, and even used the Colt .45's magazine, so it would use current Fallout ammo.

Point was, the.45 is a sub-sonic round with hell of a "knock down" effect (about a 90% chance of one hit from a .45 killing you or rendering you hors de combat which is heck of a lot better than a 9mm etc),
so it was perfect round for a silenced weapon, but pistols are very innaccurate (forget the films, most folk can't hit jack squat after 15 or 20 yards with a pistol..and frequently miss even point blank)
So, the British made a carbine, shorter than a rifle, easier to carry and conceal, but much more accurate than a pistol.

IIRC modern built DeLisle clones have about 2" inch spread at 200 yards, perfect for pot-shotting sentries or officers from a hedgerow or roof

Oh! Another interestign british weapon: the PIAT (projector infantry anti tank)

Imagine a short, stubby bazooka, fired by a bloody great spring and cartridge inside the projectile, so it's, well, not "silent" but hell of a lot quieter than most such weapons, and had no back blast at all, so it could be fired from inside buildings, or hedges etc and not give away your position or fry/blast the users
