Who's a "real" assassin for you ?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:42 am

An assassin kills his target with whatever means best suited for the current situation, be it with a dagger, a bow, a trap, poison, or a freaking battleaxe for that matter. A ninja would be a good inspiration for an assassin in the elder scrolls world, I would imagine; daggers, swords, crossbows, bows, throwing knives/stars, etc.... :ninja:

Assasination is a description of unseen killing motivated by a reason(often the reason being political).

Means to an end does not really matter.

Not necessarily unseen...Gavrilo Princip, John Wilkes Booth, Sirhan Sirhan, Yigal Amir etc. made no efforts to hide or remain unseen, quite the opposite they purposedly made their killings in public in order to become arrested and become political martyrs.

My assassin characters have always used a bow as primary weapon, it's a lot safer to kill someone from a distance. However in skyrim if you use a dagger you get 15x sneak damage. Ouch. That's pretty awesome and makes you able to slit throats left & right.

An assassin is someone who kills someone for money on behalf of someone.

Not necessarily money.

Kill a person: Murderer, warrior, soldier etc.

Kill a person for a specific reason: Assassin.

A decent assassin is surely someone with daggers/bows that use poisons, and do it without being detected.. yes?

An assassin is someone who kills someone for money on behalf of someone.

That's a contract killer. An assassin is simply someone who kills in cold-blood, who may or may not be contracted.

Alchemy, Speech, Pickpocket and playing unarmored are a must-have for a true assassin.
Also, using a dagger or a bow is also fine with assassins, but only when plan A (poison your target) won't work.
Sneak and Lockpick are also very valuable to an assassin.
And no, a TRUE assassin does NOT wear ANY armor at all!
A true assassin will put some normal clothes on him in order to blend with others and won't stand out in his Ub3r-kw3l armor.

No, not necessarily. Assassins can kill for political and religious motivations as well. Sirhan Sirhan, John Wilkes Booth, John Hinkley Jr., etc. All killed for different motivations, none of which were money.

it doesnt matter what weapon you use so long as you kill quickly and silently without being seen and despite what people say an assassin can be good its all just a question of what kind of people you kill. i myself use a bow more often than not but if i cant get a clean shot i will deal with my target up close by use of a hatchet but in every encounter i try to end the conflict with one arrow or swing of my hatchet without being seen.

My ideal assassin is a mage with illusion and frost spells (generally speaking, that is. Frost isn't that great in this game. I'm just talking about how I would envision a badass assassin). The best RPG assassin I've ever played was a stealth mage in an old mmo called Shadowbane. You can kind of pull it off here too, except Shadowbane's mages shot frost at machine gun like speed.

An assassin can't really just be a person that kills for money, otherwise Ezio, Altair, Connor, and anyone from Assassin's Creed isn't an assassin.

Correct. I'd say most assassins fall under the idealist or political category. Take Lee Harvey Oswald, for example. The people who kill for money are Hitmen.

To say your not an assassin if you use a bow is ludicrous. Assassins use whatever tool is at their disposal as long as it gets the job done.

Assassins usually kill for political motivations but we've all heard the term "hired assassin" so it's not like they can't work for money. But they are usually sent to kill a person of prominence.

A hit man is just a murderer for hire typically used to kill someone that someone else doesn't like for whatever reason. Hit men are most commonly associated with mob related activities.

A mercenary is more of a hired soldier who is only working for the money and has no real interest in what they are fighting for.

I stand by that daggers and throat-slitting are both crude, primitive and inefficient if the goal is to 1) Kill the target, and particularly 2) Live to tell the tale. Ironically, I think sneaking up behind someone and slitting their throat is really up-front.

Discuss.

I don't think it matters how you assassinate someone as long as they are dead.

Anyway, aren't assassinations reserved for people of political importance? Sneaking up behind Belethor and 15x'ing him with daggers hardly makes you an assassin.

Assassin is a cold professional killer available for the highest bidder. Each assassin might have trademark weapon or methods to execute he's mark, but the code remains the same: Kill your mark anymeans necessary, there is no rules, there is no limits, all the fair fighters are dead.

Behavior: Assassins are calm under any situation they are in, they are intelligent and sharp eyed. Before they enter into a combat they observe the area and plans their moves. Assassin always has plan A and B. Preperation, element of suprise, precission and wide array of weapons and tactics he uses gives him all the needed advantage over he's enemies.
