Who's a "real" assassin for you ?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:36 am

Hello everyone !

Please take in note:
I appreciate the previous answers and thinking , of course it is allowed for discussion and etc.
But I think that the main think I meant by my question is What's a real assassin for you ( In terms of tools , behaving , physically stuff ) in Skyrim of course.

So I saw someone around the forums here , who said that a bow user isn't a "true" or "real" assassin..
Now what are your opinions on it ?
For example I think that dual daggers or dagger and sword users are assassins ( if of course they want to ).
Yet bow users are some type of hybrids for me..

Additional question:
Recently I played Oblivion and tried out a class named 'Agent', I had some interesting gameplay with him , what are your opinions about the class and do you suggest taking it in Skyrim ?

I guess it depends on if you feel that sniping is not a "valid" form of assassination. I certainly think it is, and my assassin was every bit as skilled with a bow as he was sneaking up behind someone to slit their throat.

In my eyes an assassin is somebody who kills without being seen, so if someone is good at sneaking with a bow and killing while remaining undetected I think they are an assassin.

For me an assassin would kill someone by any means necessary, whether it's by bow dagger or something else.

Well, to me, when it comes to technique, it is as some have said before; killing without being seen or otherwise discovered. A subtle kill, for reasons that aren't always one's own. Generally a kill that has a sum of money waiting for whoever does the deed. Whether it's by an arrow from the dark or poisoned food, I consider it an assassination. I do not, however, consider throat-slitting assassination unless it's done to someone in their sleep or in complete absence of witnesses. Such manners of killing are crude and primitive. It's way too up-front.

Here's the definition of the word, anyway, which naturally plays a part in my perception of one:

as·sas·sin
n.
1. One who murders by surprise attack, especially one who carries out a plot to kill a prominent person.
2. Assassin A member of a secret order of Muslims who terrorized and killed Christian Crusaders and others.

A smart assassin will use any means available to him/her to quietly eliminate the target. A master will do it artistically.

A mercenary is someone who fights for money.

An assassin is someone who takes out a high-profile target in a surprise attack. They could use a dagger, a gun, a bow, poison, or whatever. As long as the target dies suddenly and unexpectedly. And they don't necessarily need to be hired / paid to be considered an assassin.

But personally I like to cut throats with a dagger

Realistically, an arrow isn't a reliable way of killing someone. An assassin wouldn't use a bow unless he could be confident of escape and accepting of failure.

There's a reason that 'assassins' in ancient Rome were just mobs of burly men with clubs.

What I said and Sheogorath88 said.

A 'real' assassin would go up and close with an orcish battleaxe, the only way to guarantee a kill is overkill...

Burning the face off someone is also the work of an assassin, if you get paid, as Festus KRex will tell you.

Speaking of assassins, if anybody is RPing an assassin take a look at this random name selector I created. http://classtools.net/widgets/fruit_machine_5/JybzK.htm

All the essential NPCs have been removed but there may be a few names such as "Injured soldier" in there, so if you get ones of them I apologise. This is useful for people who want to roleplay their character being given a contract to kill someone.

In Mass Effect 2, Jacob described an assassin as just a precise mercenary. It seems apt.

An assassin could use any sort of weapon, as long as the job gets done. That kinda borders on mercenary, but both are very similar although assassins are usually sneakier.

If archers can't be assassins then neither can snipers. My character only uses daggers for assassinations, but that's 'cause he's a sick bastard who likes the thrill of slitting throats and stabbing backs.

Assasination is a description of unseen killing motivated by a reason(often the reason being political).

Means to an end does not really matter.
