Why are bandits in mines?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:13 pm

They're working in the mines because it's a source of income - if they can get enough money to pay off their bounties, they can walk into town as free men and women.

Only if i don't kill them before :D

If they would do that ingame ;) But i think most Bandits just want to become rich and not just pay their bounties.

Bandits generally have a purpose in the mines, as we've discussed.

Yes, but wouldn′t it be more comfortable to live outside the mines, and work inside them...like miners tend to do...

Probably, but then you increase the size of your "hideout", making it more conspicuous. I bet most Bandits would rather live in 5-star hotels, but instead have to settle for derelict ruins and tiny camps.

There are more bandits in Skyrim than regular citizens. Because of the shortage of people to rob they have to find real jobs to supplement their part-time banditry. Some are miners and smiths, some are smugglers, some run gambling dens, some hunt and fish, and so on.

If they don't mind working anyway why not just become average citizens? I mean, there's not much difference between mining as a bandit and mining as a citizen. Maybe the added benefit of not being forced to live in a mine and hunted by the local authority if you go with the honest worker route.

Because they have bounties on their heads, and the Holds aren't exactly keen on Pardons. It's one of the flaws with punitive criminal systems.

Those poor things. Now I actually feel bad for slaughtering them en masse. :(

Really, I wasn't asking why they existed. I was asking why they were doing hard work. Grab a pickaxe and start pounding on the side of a mountain. You'll understand really quick. Just seems illogical that someone would embark on a life of crime, just to be a coal miner.

And, yeah, there has to be a reason for everything, and yeah, it does have to make sense
They aren't mining coal, they're mining metal ores for weapons and armor. You see forges and workbenches in a lot of bandit locations.

There is always some mining, I see them and hear them. I don't get it. You take from the innocent, murder, evade and live outside the law and society because...it means you get to work really, really hard underground? I don't get it.

Why the heck would a bandit be mining ore? And if it's a captive being forced to mine ore, why do they attack you?

There`s nothing illogical about it at all.

They`re bandits, yes. they`re bandits who rob and steal, but also happen to have found and use a mine as their hideout. Now what`s wrong with having a go at chopping out a little gold whle you`re in there? Maybe you`ll find that magic bit of gold that`ll mean you can abandon mugging people and live a life of luxury. Of course, it`s hard to find enough gold so banditry must continue to make the cash.

It makes total common sense.

Well, if they are Bandits, they most likely have bounties, soThey cant just walk into town and buy gear, they have to make it I assume, Or maybe they sell the ore? Who knows? Maybe you should ask them.

I think they use fences for moving goods about.
