Why are there so many complaints about skyrim?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:05 am

I've been noticing quite a few complaints on this forums regarding why the characters don't do this or that. Why archers are under powered, stealing is broken completely, not enough of this and that, why is there not enough options etc. Now just the other day I'm seeing threads regarding, if this game really has the content to back up the 300 hour comment made by the developers.

I'm beginning to think that they had ultra expectations of this video game. Yes, they created a whole world for us to explore in but there's going to have to be a limit some where. I mean the developers can only put so much in a game.

I'm sure they will fix the bugs in the game but what they have made so far is quite impressive of a game. I'm only at 80 hours with 1 character and have yet to get through the main quests. I've yet to even seen half the land and two of the major cities. Quite honestly I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of the game.

I'm quite happy with my purchase and I'm impressed with what's done so far in terms of video games.

What do you think? Do people have high expectations?

Some people don't like it, that's why they're complaining.

There are hundreds of reasons for why someone might not like the game, asking "Why are people complaining?" is stupid.

I think that it's just a matter of numbers. Put enough people in the same room and you won't ever get an agreement on where to eat lunch. So many different players equals so many different opinions on what should and shouldn't be.

Personally, I'm 200+ hours in and loving it. Minor complications along the road but hey, I'm a PC gamer so that's just something I'm prepared to deal with.

Because some people hyped it up to a point where they were setting themselves up for disappointment.

And some people just don't like it.

Bethesda aren't very good at weeding out problems but they make one hell of a game.

I think expectations were high due to the history of the studio. While I have thoroughly enjoyed the game and (almost) all that it has to offer (275 hrs), I think that it is half of what it could have been, mainly due to all that has been removed from previous games and the "streamlining" of the game in general.

Pretty typical of any forums for a new uber-hype game.

Remember when New Vegas came out?
People were having meltdowns (see what I did there?) on the forums over tiny stuff.

I think some people like complaining more than actually disliking the game.

I have family members like this.

Bethesda makes an interesting world, but I think the gaming part is pretty ordinary.

If I see a fly on a turd I ignore it.
If I see a fly on a wonderful steak I try to catch it before I keep eating.

A flaw on something good simply calls for a bigger effort to correct it, so when something is wrong with Skyrim there is more cause to complain about it than if there is something wrong with Brink.

And yes, Brink is a turd.

Well, there are some valid complaints interspersed with all the baseless whining. 90% of it is crap though, and just trolling for the most part.

There are a few threads with people intelligently putting out real criticism, but most of it is so vague and inflammatory it's not really worth paying attention to.

Generally though, gamers can be an entitled, nostalgic lot, especially on forums. If you try to evaluate real sentiment about the fame from forums like these, you are bound to get a skewed perspective. The loudest people will always be the ones you notice, though they may be the ones with the least to say.

Think about it for 5 seconds.

It's a good game, but people are always going to have their problems, yet also people will enjoy it.
Now, what would be the point in people enjoying the game to post on the forums about how much they enjoy it/enjoy a specific part of it? Well there may be a point to it, but no one will post on the forums for that reason.
On the other hand, people who have a specific problem will post on the forums about it, and exaggerate it as much as they can because they are frustrated about it, or bored.

It just seems that there are many people complaining, when in fact, it is a minority... stupid trolls

That's pretty lame. But you're probably right.

I've made a few threads of my own actually like this.. Questions like "What is your favorite ____?" and whatnot. I get no replies (not that I'm too upset about it, but it's kind of funny that I get ZERO replies).

The first thing you must learn about forums is that they are never actually used for discussion, just trolling and egotistical hate-spewing. Except for the "Forum Games" section, but so few forums have those anymore.

Well, my 2 cents to this whole thing is this. Typically, forums do not consist of praise topics, but troubleshooting, FAQs, and gripes. Looking in the forums for something that is not a complaint is like going to a water park and not expecting to get wet at some point.

Personally all games have flaws, all games have glitches and all games aren't perfect. Despite maybe a few glitchs I think as a player on Skyrim I have tolled up to 200 hours on one character and I can honestly say that this is the best game I have ever played in my entire life. Just sitting back and thinking *WOW* how can you get better than this. Love bethesda loved there games (except fallout new vegas buggy as hell). This is a new standard of gaming. As an elder scrolls veteran I expected nothing less than perfection. My two cents :)

Yea I definitly think its rediculous that so many people jus sit on here talking [censored] about the game. To be honest Ive never been on such a whiny forum thats why I dont post much. Dark Souls forum is much nicer then this whiny crap. A forum should b atleast alittle less finaky.
