You might have became Sheogorath but it really didnt stick because your character obviously isnt Sheogorath in the next game

Because in Skyrim it is an different Person ;) The new Madgod is surely on the Shivering Isles or in Cyrodiil.
But why not play as old granny? She does the same as a King or Leader.

I don't think it would be done very well, being leader of the guilds wasn't.

leading EVERY guild in the province isnt enough for you?

think about what that entails... leaders dont adventure or fight or do anything fun, they listen to politics, write drawn out carefully worded legislation, and bulls**t around with losers for positive PR.

why would you WANT to be the leader?

Because this is not Fable.

On a serious note, if becoming leader were the natural conclusion to the MQ it would ruin the possibility of going off and doing guild quests after its completion. In what world could the ruler or monarch sneak around assassinating people or stealing things? It just wouldn't make any sense.

If there were a way in which to ascend to becoming emperor or some similar position, it would have to change the entire game from that point onwards. No more idiots saying 'go fetch my mead' and no more guild quests sending you to do [censored] jobs. You should have different questlines to follow, which involve taking your personal guard or hunting party somewhere.

Untrue about Fallout : New Vegas not having a 'winner' side, as you can side with Yes Man and become a leader of New Vegas in your own right.

But yes, you are quite right about Skyrim though. Most likely the main quest lacks such options is because of a ) release deadline b ) too many resources
However, unlike in Fallout 3 or New Vegas, you can actually be a leader of a faction (Companions/College of Winterhold/Dark Brotherhood/Thieves).
Which in my opinion compensates for the lack of an independant path to glory within the main quest itself.

Although if my theory that a Warp in the North will occur, I wouldn't be surprised if Dovahkiin is slotted as High King/Queen/Emperor of Skyrim, in lore.
For Tulius and Ulfric would both be dead, both sides decimated, Elisif wouldn't be strong enough to unite the people under one banner, so who's left?
But of course the Dovahkiin will do it! and become the next Tiber Septim/Talos in the process, I'd wager. Hehe.

I am not sure anyone has thought of a good way for us to lead in the Elder Scrolls without compromising its traditional direct-your-own-character experience. Typically, when players want to become or play leaders, they will play either a single-player RPG with an ending or an open-ended MMO, or they will play games such as Civilization.

What I would like is that when you become leader of one of the factions that you have mission to do afterwards. The problem I have is you work hard to get to the top and once you're there it's over, the payoff isn't that good. Yes you get access to a house and followers but I want more, especially in Skyrim as the quests are so short. I'm not asking to be ruler of all the land but once you're at the top, there should be more story, like say a few weeks gametime a mission activates and you get more quests, someone else is challenging your power and you have to defend your leadership, or just some random quests that only you as the leader can solve.

Just being finishing the quests and that's the end isn't enough, there needs to be more.

ok have you not played fable 3? its downright bad, sure it had its moments but being the powerfull guy with nothing to advance to, nothing to gain or lose, and ordering people around is boring in gameplay comparison. hell id even go as far and say id rather bethesda take out the option to be guild leader and only allow you to advance to the right hand man sort of deal.

that way the guild leader can summon you to join him on missions or he can send you on tasks do errands, i woudl rather do that than tell people to do it for me

Well you know all those books you pass up and do not read on your adventures. Many of them are about the history of Tamriel. It would probably be very difficult to write future books with history/lore in mind if we could become kings. Then again I guess they could just make it generic, like "Dragonborn King from Skyrim became High King in the turning of the age," instead of "Martok became High King in the turning of the age."

Please don't mention Fable that is another disappointment all together......they really sweet talk the whole game and it comes not even close to what they described.

To be a true leader, you'd have to give up full-time adventuring. And you can't be something as public as Tiber Septim if your race, gender, and class is completely variable.

Spoiler
The Dovahkiin does nicely fit as the new Underking though..........the Greybeards even bestow you the title of Ysmir, Dragon of the North.

Actually I don't really want that because that pretty much ends your adventuring life. In fact, I would be happy if there was an option to just remain as the right hand man/woman of the guildmaster's instead of the guild head while still doing guild buisness/quests. Now if we had both options, I guess we could both be happy.

If you did all the factions quest, then your the LT for every faction! just not one faction. Also, I'm sure Skyrim will be driven to chaos-->war-->= extinction if any of us azzhoe of a dragonborn becomes ruler

as a person i agree but not in practice its about immersion kings leaders tend to go out with a big entourage not really feasible 4 a game (unless u like paperwork ) as 4 db and tg thier leaders are secretive and performance oriented as in their skills must be constantly used to keep up to date lore wise
