Why do my friends think this?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:46 pm

My friends are BIG xbox gamers but when they see anyone over 20 playing video games they say stuff like "those guys need a life and a gf". I want to be playing video games for as long as i can and im sure my gf will too.

What are your thoughts?

Your friends are hypocritical [censored]s. The average age of a gamer is like 32 or something, maybe you should tell them that?

Really? Your friends must be living under a rock.

I have a babe of a GF and I go on these forums and I go out to the gym everyday.

Go tell your friends that.

If it helps, I am over 40 and still playing games. There are others here on the forums (and even some of the mods) who are older that that.

Do what you want with your time. It's not your friends' lives, it's yours. You can still have a GF and play video games, just make sure that she likes them as well

Gaming is no longer a hardcoe only, nerd only entertainment medium.

Gaming is EXTREMELY mainstream. Almost everybody plays videogames, even if they're only casuals.

The average gamer is between 20 and 30 years old. Videogames are not just for kids anymore.

Hell, the Smithsonian is hosting a Videogame Art exhibition in 2012. Videogames are now considered art!

I'm nearing 30s and my 20 year old gf is sitting next to me playing Dragon Age 2. She said this will be her first attempt at Hard mode after completing the game twice previously. So, yeah, your friends are just lacking in confidence; so much so that they had to pick on gamers to boost their self-ego.

I'm 39, married and have a child. I have also given them fair warning in regards to Skyrim. ;)

The average age of a gamer is like 32 or something

That is actually a very misleading statistic. The majority of gamers are 13-24.

How can this be? It's simple.

gamer 1 = 15
gamer 2 = 20
gamer 3 = 55

Avg 30

They are young and someday they will know that just because you turn 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and beyond that you still like what you like and you like to do what you like to do and that's just fine. Games are for everyone...even the young. :D haha.

Im turning 22 in about a month, and I have a full time job, my own apartment, and a girlfriend who loves me enough to pre order Skyrim for me. I've been playing games sinse I was old enough to pick up a controller, and although I don't game as much as I did when I was a teen, I still consider myself a full fledged gamer.

So tell your friends they should stop stereotyping people that they know absolutely nothing about.

I'm engaged and spend an exuberant amount of time with Mrs. Nightbeat. I have to plan my video game time very very carefully.

I had to make deals with her for Skyrim time and Sunday is no vidya Sundays for us. :cryvaultboy:

Its not a misleading statistic, the average gamer age is in the 30s because people who started playing games in the 80s are still doing so today.

People that enjoy playing video games dont just suddenly snap out of it and stop playing games at the age of 25 or something.

28, happily engaged to my beautiful gal and a MASSIVE Elder Scrolls fan. There is a reason computer games gross more profit than movies...they are better! Age counts for very little these days
