Honestly? I prefer the pickaxe for a weapon. Call me maniacal or socio-pathic. But my orc likes the way it makes a skull go crunch!

That is exactly the kind of war hammer I'd like to see. None of those fancy fantasy hammers with giant polls. Something small and speedy that you could swing all day without tiring. And pinging a helmeted enemy in the head with a hammer really rattles the grey matter. :D

Perhaps related: why no two handed Maces?

Sometimes I pretend that what we have in the game are http://www.irongatearmory.com/images/large/Images%20Other%20Weapons/600664%20BecDeCorbin_03_LRG.jpg though they are all missing the characteristic spike at the top.

Yeah, that's kind of how I look at it, too. Other than the spike, like you said. And even bec de corbin usually had small heads, I believe. Just longer handles. I think what we have in game is like a mix of a bec de corbin and a maul. More like a sledgehammer than a war hammer proper.

Not sure it could be a flail. A large two handed flail with a long reach.

I come from a very long line of nerds that believe a dwarf in all senses must use a one handed hammer of some sort.

Actually swords and axes were far more common than hammers. They were simply the cheapest weapons to make.

As for Thor, PLEASE!!!! NO!!!! The concept of the throwing hammer was a pure fantasy creation. While the hammer could be thrown it was fairly heavy and not a weapon that was typically caredin bulk. The idea of the thrown hammer is like the idea of a thrown sword. It might work but it was a last act of desperation.

I was under the impression that we were playing a fantasy game...

General tullius armour + a dwarven goldbronzy hammer + FUS RO DAH + storm call = Thor, the Demi God.

Yeah, they need to aid more weapons, although adding crossbows is a step in the right direction

Actually that depends on what they do with it. One thing I dod not like is the fact they have made all bows essentially the same. Different bows should have not just different damage but different rates of fire and different ranges. Crossbows should have a LOW rate of fire however be very accurate.

Well, rate of fire in usually more dependent on how fast the user can knock and draw than on the quality of the bow itself. So if anything, the better bows might be slightly slower to simulate a higher draw weight. Different ranges would be nice, though. At the bare minimum, Daedric should shoot farther than Dwarven should shoot farther than a hunting bow. It would also be cool to see different makes of bow like reflex and composite, but that's no biggie. I'm just jazzed that we're getting crossbows back. :D

EDIT: I wonder....assuming a Daedric bow's power comes from a high poundage and not some kind of magical stuff, would a Daedric bow destroy some of the lower quality wooden arrows...? That would be embarrassing.

I was a bit disappointed on how the Blunt weapons weren't really.... Blunt.
the only actually Blunt weapons are the Dwarven War hammer and Mace, and I guess Volendrung but it is a bit pointy still.
every other mace has Blades on it, more of a 4 sided axe to me, dis-including the Ebony Mace (that's like a 16 sided axe) o.o
And I was kind of hoping War-hammers would be a bit more like the Dwarven War Hammer, all the others are a bit pointy.

Maces were probably an evolution of the hammer as a weapon.

While a hammer is common enough, as a weapon it is not that effective. It does not have enough weight to go against armor, nor does it have enough reach. Maces don't have reach either, but they have much more kinetic energy due to their weight.

But couldn't you make a one-handed war hammer with a head that weighed the same as a mace head?

Also, a hammer doesn't have to be blunt only...they can have a icepick like side and a blunt side...so no reason to not include them in the game.

Fantasy stuff is double to triple to 10x the size of a real weapon...

I'd wondered about that. In this game daggers look like short swords and "regular" swords look like two handers. The two handed swords look like a prop that would belong on a 10 foot tall statue.

Again, Weapon Variants Expansion has two handed maces:

Ashens took the one handed hammers just so he could smash all of Skyrim's non-electronic tat. Only the British can have hammers in Skyrim because of him.
