Why do people hate Fox news?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:47 pm

I have never watched it before, but I hear people hate on it all the time.

Because it's a tabloid masquerading as news?

Thank you for validating my claim.

So they didn't do a story about a [censored] simulator with blue aliens?

Because every news station is biased due to their views.

Strange that those who slam it so, don't watch it so they really know....hmmm. Repeating words others have said....

Don't get me started....on the subject of media bias...

Look through the references for quite a large number of very good reasons for those claims.

General rule of life for checking the news: Check a news station, then check BBC to see if its true

I always think it's funny that people treat the BBC as if it is some bastion of impartial information. Half of what the BBC News says is lies, the other half is propaganda. It is the state broadcaster after all.

What I do is see what the Independent says, then see what the Daily Mail says. Whatever is halfway between those two is probably the truth.

I won't stick up for them with the Mass Effect thing. As for the Wikipedia article: I would discuss them more specifically, but it would get too political.

I don't regularly watch Fox News, so I can't say much. However, I've watched the Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck segments. O'Reilly is a jerk who dismisses and shouts down those who disagree with him, and Beck is insane.

Some of their shows (if not all) are so biased, it's more brainwashing than news... Even the shows which are supposed to be only about news are pro-republican and pro-Israel (and con-Ron Paul).

My 2nd favorite Fox News' character is Bill O'Reilly (the 1st is Glenn Beck of course :D ) who will happily give a "lecture" to any guest that he doesn't agree with and tell other people to shut up and tell producers to cut their mic. "Cut his mic" has became a famous O'Reilly's phrase. Where else can you see things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTkFU4MtubU  Bill O'Reilly also will happily lie and distort the truth if it helps him support his arguments.

Me too. Of course that doesn't make me hate them, it makes me point a finger at them and laugh

It may be the "State broadcaster" in that it is owned by the British people but the state has no say in Editorial policy, nor what appears in its news. It is independent of government and is just as willing to send the attack dogs after the government of the day as it is anyone else.

Do you have anything to back up these slanderous allegations?

I'll be the first to say Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, but the sources listed under the references often are, that's why I pointed those out specifically.

Because they're right wing while most of the people in this forum, or even on the internet, are left wing.

I remember an O'Reilly segment a few years back, and if I recall correctly, he was at a southern jazz restaurant (or something along those lines) and was amazed that black people use forks.

Still debatable, but not on this forum.

Because they see a game like Hitman and say "GAME DEVELOPER PROMOTES MURDER"

Then they see a game like D&D and say "RPG PROMOTES SATAN, BURN THE HERETICS"

They are the modern day equivelant of witch-hunters, using unrelated facts or blowinfg facts out of proportion to condemm people or companies.

they see a show about pastel cartoon ponies & say "people are getting on disability just to watch it"

As proven by the book "Lies and the lying liars who tell them" there is no general trend of a left bias in US news.

In the media, they use the word "conservative" 20 times more than they use the word "liberal". Nothing like this has happened since the 60s, where they would say "A black robber...."

Yea, Fox has a few idiot reporters. My favorite quote from Bill O'Reilly - 'Tide goes in, tide goes out. You can't explain that.' When telling an atheist there's things in the world we can't explain.

Well, as that book proved, if there was a left bias, there'd be more favorable news stories towards left candidates.

In the period that Al Franken and his staff looked at for the book (I cant remember exactly, but I think it was Bush v Gore election) there were more pro right candidate stories than pro left.

(Al Franken, Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert... it says a lot about the current state of the USA where you have to look to Comedians for truth....)

BBC policy is set by the Directors, who are the same sorts of people who come in from the commercial news corporations. These sorts of people tend to be the ones why buy out politicians for their own ends, and the BBC must toe the line or risk losing public funding once politicians feel the BBC is not on their side, but the commercial ones are.

The BBC is after all, made up of humans, with the same tendency to bias towarsd their own beliefs as anyone else. It's not so much a partisan outlook I see, so much as a subservience to the whole political class.
