Why do quest mods seem to not work with other quest mods?

From what I gather, yes, it has, but he's failed to respond and the project appears to have been abandoned.

Funny, I had a similar problem yesterday, using Skyrim Redone and Live Another Life. With both mods installed, when going into the Helgen cave as part of Live Another Life quest, halfway in, there was nothing but sky and stepping off the edge dropped me into the keep. Removing Skyrim Redone fixed it. May have been another conflict but the removal of the one mod fixed it.

Skyrim conflicts are much harder to figure out.

Interesting Peter ID, for me if I remove the Unofficial Skyrim Patch when running Live Another Life, Helgen's Keep loads properly. If it's enabled I'm missing half the keep, I can eventually reload to it but Ralof/Hadvar are gone!

I also had similar problems with LoL in Helgen. I narrowed it down to Real Wildlife. I deactivated RW, entered Helgen, exited with Ralof and MQ kicked in. I then reactivated RW. I cannot use any quest mods as they instantly CTD. I have read the USKP causes all manner of clashes with quest mods. But in my game it must be a clash with other mods as the games always CTD when trying to resume save game.

Someone is spreading disinformation then because the USKP is doing no such thing.

I think it has to do with how the quests have been set up to start. If the mod author has gone into the story manager and added their quest to the vanilla quest node found under the events, it will work when nothing else is loaded, but will have problems if there is another mod that also adds to the vanilla quest node.

Supposedly, the "right" way to do it is to add a totally new node to the event rather then adding to the vanilla quest node that is inside the event, but I am unsure whether or not this will still cause conflicts.

I believe this is an oversight by Bethesda, they spent a long time hyping up their story manager, but unfortunately the way .esp's override the skyrim.esm seems to be on a "first come, first serve" basis

I've seen the UKSP referenced as a conflict with numerous dungeon mods as well. If it's disabled I can actually run a fair number of dungeon ESP's. Not sure why this is, I much prefer the UKSP's changes to dungeons however even though it would be nice to have my cake and eat it too. I imagine that with the size of my load order it is likely not the UKSP's fault, but I have definitely at least seen Helgen Keep load up fully with it disabled.

Cataxu and polynike:

Based on what you experienced then my thought that SkyrimRedone was the conflict is probably partially true, as it could be a combination of mods causing this (I also use RWL). I had a similar problem with Skyrim Economics and Sounds Of Skyrim where it would CTD.

Right now I am setting up a new game, install from scratch, but get CTDs and un-loadable saves (but not all of them). Trying to figure out a way to see what mods I should not use by adding a few at a time and testing is not very practical as it may work for a bit and then CTD. All mods I am using I have seen others use without problem so it must be something in my combination.

An example is Scenic Carriages. If I choose a scenic travel it will CTD right after I am told to hop on board. Now seeing my issues with Live Another Life and Skyrim Redone or Realistic Wildlife (mods that work well), it is a shot in the dark which mod(s) can be causing the problem. Especially since there are people who do not have an issue with that combination.

In the spirit of the OP, my opinion would be that there are some things we still do not know about how the game works, and this causes good mods to not work correctly when they should. I feel like we are still in Skyrim beta testing :)

I'm beginning to think that it is something that the mod author has done wrong vs it being skyrim itself. Here are 3 mods I'm using now that contain quest and all seem to work together without any of the problems stated in the OP.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9782&navtag=file/images.php?id=9782&tab=3

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=17289

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8333&navtag=file/images.php?id=8333&tab=3

So everytime I install a mod with a quest in it I do hours of testing for stability purposes. So with these three mods I seen no side effects. I'll test my luck and continue to add more to see what works and what doesnt.

It simply ignores the compressed subrecords, thereby losing them entirely when a mod is saved with it. CELL, LAND, NAVM, NAVI, and _NPC records are all known to have compressed subrecords. All of which are known to cause problems with corrupt entries. Bottom line, one needs to find out if TESVSnip has ever been used on these mods in the past. If so, the authors have problems to correct, which may or may not be possible.

So using TESVSnip at all will cause corrupted entries? or only if the esp/esm contains the mentioned record types?

Please do, I can list some quests, but seeing your load order would be a big help.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=15896 (Can run this as an ESP)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/modules/members/index.php?id=3013861 (Could run 1, running others resulted in instability and Sea of Ghosts is a huge ESP which I could not run till splitting it and placing his custom worldspaces in an ESM. Splitting all 4 quests allowed me to run them concurrently without "specific" CTDs I observed with them)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=15126 (WIP, the quests are non-functional, but still did not run for me unless split)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=14971 (Curiously could run her other dungeon, 'Onyx Caverns' as an esp)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12935 (Could not run as an ESP)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=16197 (Another no-go ESP)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=17246
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=16810

By no means am I insisting you download and give all these a go, I usually test any reasonably decent quest/dungeon I see on the Nexus. These are just what I have as ESM+ESPs at the moment.

So using TESVSnip at all will cause corrupted entries? or only if the esp/esm contains the mentioned record types?

I am wondering this as well, I have split a number of ESPs with TESVSNIP and occasionally encounter holes in the dungeons I test, all is well when LAL is removed for the most part (Sometimes the dungeon/quest split just doesnt cooperate [I haven't actually been able to keep Live Another Life enabled and not have holes in Chillwind Depths and Nightcaller Temple with my current load order, I assume the behavior is the same with the UKSP]). I imagine this is a result of using TESVSNIP. Definitely not blaming LAL or UKSP here, just reporting what I've observed! Looking at TESVGecko's indefinite release date, I assume we have no alternative aside from the CK at this point?

I'm surprised you were able to get drained bloodline to work, I could never get a save loaded/new game started with it...would you be willing to post your full load order? This is mine: http://www.pasteall.org/32011

For the most part I just let BOSS handle it and correct what I can, but the ESM+ESPs obviously throw it off.

I have the expanded winterhold and running no worries. I took of moonpath as I thought it too unlore friendly for my RP playthrough. Dungeon mods have almost been impossible to run though

Update drained blood line seemed to crash in the volcanic region where the eldergleam sactuary is right near the fort where the black mages took over the stormcloak fort. Not sure how to get my full load order without manually going through the list.

Hey 4skyrim, he does have a lot of UDRs in his files last I checked. Might consider bringing it up to him! Anyway you can get your whole load order by going to:

c\users\(your pc name)\appdata\local\skyrim\

Loadorder.txt is what you want!
