Why do the Thalmor have concern in Talos?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 10:50 am

Just wondering, because the banning of Talos seems to have been the spark to bring about the civil war.

If it does not affect them, then I would be correct with my theory.

It just shows that the Thalmor are doing the 'Divide and Conquer' Strategy.

-Since the Thalmor have a knife to the Empire's throat. The most logical way to destroy both the Empire and Stormcloaks would to erupt a civil war. Making the Empire enforce the banishment of Talos is just a manipulation to make the Nords revolt.

-Considering this plan is of high intelligence, the natural superior genes of the Thalmor makes sense.
-Them also being under the radar politically, just add to the sneakiness.

-If I'm wrong, then I will have to do more research.

Whatever their other motives are, the Thalmor view mer (well, mostly altmer) as far superior to men, so it was an anathema to them that a "man" (non-mer) could be raised to god status. That would mean they would have to accept that their worldview as being superior creatures was wrong - that is unacceptable.

The reason why they see themself as superior too men is that elfs where the first inhabitands of skyrim this explains why a man cant be raisen too a godlike status

Auri'El, the elven Akatosh, supposedly led the elves against Lorkhan, then ascended to the heavens to look after and protect them. Thus, it's implied that a mer ascended the heavens to become a god. Much the way Talos did. The Thalmor have a racial superiority claim against all men, so the idea of a man rising to the station of the divine, like their Auri'El, is utterly heretical and insulting.

Yes. Why would the Thalmor want more imperial territory to leave the empire. . . In a truce they all anticipate is only temporary. The Dominion does not equal the empire. Which they intend to later kick the ass of. Much harder to beat down the imperials if they have the support of skyrim to draw from and a whole country of nords at their back.

I disagree, Lucifer. Lately I've seen a lot more of the 'elves in chains', thing, where they are but a pitiful remnant of a once glorious society and all have lofty dreams about restoring their long abated ancestral glory. High elves as bad guys again? This feels very refreshing to me after dragon age and stupid weeboo RP everywhere.

Elves are superior to men. In every aspect accept breeding speed. They are better swordsmen, better spellcasters, better at living longer, they realise that fascism is better than empirism, and they are better politcally. They are in nearly every way superior. And I would damn well support them if I was in the Elder Scrolls world. They wish to unmake the world, their logic behind it seems very logical and I would deffinately want to assert myself from mer to god.

Using "every" was probably not the right word. I'll say majority instead.

a reduguard would disagree about the swordsmanship.

fascism is not better than imperialism. You can be fascistic and imperialistic. Mussolini was. You're trying to compare apples and oranges.

they aren't better politically. they're arrogant, haughty, and confrontational, and extremely ideological. everything that makes a bad diplomat.

Their spellcasters are better, I agree, as does the lore.

Elves are not superior in every aspect.

Usually the aspect they are not superior in is Physical strength. Men are on average much taller(1ft or so) and outweight them by quite a bit. I am not sure exactly how they are in the Elderscroll universe but in the D&D universe they are physically inferior.

However....they make up for this with their huge advantage in speed.

altmer are taller than most, if not all, the races of men. but that's just the altmer. the bosmer are roughly same height, and in oblivion, significantly shorter.

though they've really worked on equalizing height in skyrim.

This is not the DnD universe. Though somewhat based on it at the most.

The ElderScrolls series did not come out before D&D. They took what was already established and used it for their universe.
They changed it around of course and added here and there but the foundation is D&D.

Every game involving Dwarfs, Elfs, Humans, etc has its roots there. And I believe D&D has its roots after the Tolkien universe.

That is what I wrote....The Elder scrolls universe is somewhat based on it at best.

MK has implied that the Altmer believe that eliminating Talos is the first step towards ending the world and ascending. The step after that, I believe, is wiping out man. Of course, they know that their little patrols in Skyrim won't get rid of Talos worship, not by a long shot. However, in forcing the Empire to ban Talos they drove a wedge between Skyrim and the Empire, which through Ulfric they wish to exploit to weaken the Empire and Skyrim.

Personally, I think that both Alduin and Kagrenac have lent credit to the idea that the Altmer's ideas are baloney, deeply rooted in sating their god-complexes and hatred of man, but that's just a theory.

That's not entirely true. Dwemer's always preferred heavy armour and weapons. AD prefer gruerrillia style warfare, and light armour suits them more.

Personally, i think the Thalmor are the posterchildren of racism in this game. Yeah, Ulfric Stormcloak has a bit of a racist dent, but he can't hold a candle to the Thalmor. I have to hand it ot Besthreda, with skyrim, they've created a faction that hits all the wrong cords to make one genuinly, hate them in a very real sense.

Talos is humanity's anchor and protector in the mythic, and thus he has to be eradicated if the "pure" elves are to unmake the mortal world and erase mortal existence from even the pattern of possibility.

Worship in the TES universe actually strengthens the god it's given to, so a Talos ban is not just about political division but the first step in weakening him so they can (they hope) take him down.

Its a shame Elsywer is Thalmor country now, they have battlecats their that weigh 50 altmer.

Not understanding your logic here. If they have a knife to the Empire's throat wouldnt the most logical way to destroy the empire be to just make the final cut?

Not making fun of you. This question also goes to the people that claim that the empire needs to put a stop to Talos worship or risk an invasion by Thalmor. In actuality the Thalmor intend to invade just as soon as they feel they are ready. If they could now they would. Banning Talos wont stop the invasion, and not banning it wont make them ready to invade any sooner.

How is Fascism more efficient than Empirism? Throughout History, most fascist governments are less effective than Empires. Considering Fascism is basically Socialism. Socialism has been proven many times, dysfunctional. As Socialism contradicts human nature. Trying to sway away from real time politics but it's a must if we are talking about human nature.

I'm not sure if Elves have the same nature and characteristics of Humans. Mainly, I'm talking about the natural tendency to compete. Which is why Empirism(Not a real thing) is more efficient.

Elves are definitely taller, and from what I experienced of them it does give them the advantage that they can run away faster.

The reason the Thalmor isn't already invading or attacking the empire is because The Empire is still strong military wise. The Stormcloaks hate the Thalmor as much as anyone else does. The Stormcloaks are going to continue to kill off the imperials with the Thalmor, because they will be digging their own grave. THey stand no match to the Thalmor alone.

Now if the Thalmor continue what they are doing, both sides will eventually be weak enough, or even one completely destroyed, to invade and destroy.

Overall, The Thalmor were intelligent enough to know that Skyrim+ the Empire will be a sure defeat. I say "Skyrim+Empire b/c like I said, The Nords would not help thier biggest enemy, defeat their only hope for survival. But the Thalmor found a way to ..'divide' the 2 factions. This is where they shorten the leash on the Empire, thrusting their abilities to make the Empire do what ever they want. (Enter Banishment of Talos). This enrages the Nords making them revolt. Both will eventually weaken eachother to a point where both are capable of invasion and defeat.

from a mundane view your right, divide the empire from the nords, tie up its forces with a civil war while the elves get a breather.

From a meta view they want the world to end on their terms, talos keeps nirn spinning, so they really do want to get rid of talos
