Why is there like no blood in Skyrim?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:30 pm

So I've noticed this for a while now.

Whenever you see an execution or you decapitate someone in Skyrim, they have a few squirts of blood come out and that's it.

The bodies don't even bleed even though there is no head.

I mean at the very beginning of the game you see the guy lose his head and you only see 5 drips of blood and that's it.

They should add more blood.

Nothing overboard like this though.

Probably because the game is rated M for 15 years and above, with a lot more blood they would likely get an 18 and Bethesda wants to maximize sales. If you're on PC though there is already a mod that has taken care of this. :)

I could imagine its due to how blood really works. Not very easy using the mechanics to get a good pool of blood going and not have it look silly.

If there was proper water in the game, may be.

This is at least as important as the rest of your complaint threads.

Take your pick: :)

1) Difficult to make in-game blood NOT look ridiculous.

2) Wanting to fit a certain age certificate for the game.

3) Blood spilling in any natural way, on every body, would take up a lot of memory.

Yea, after playing dragon age i feel that skyrim's kinda lacking in blood :D i would like some blood splatters on the ground at least, for each corpse.

Thank goodness this isn't Dragon Age 2 with their gallons of red jelly flying everywhere.

I think the gore level is fine. If anything I hate it when I'm badly injured and there's blood on the inside of my monitor screen. Dang that's annoying, I can't even get inside the monitor to clean it...

According to bethesda themselves they never try to fit a certain rating, so I doubt they'd limit the blood just for that. And it's rated 18+ in several parts of the world regardless :>

I think if it weren't for the finishing moves, Skyrim would be tamer blood-and-gore-wise than Oblivion.

I don't need a bunch of gore in a game to know someone is dead. The fact that they are laying on the ground lifeless is good enough for me.

There are more than enough forts and caves splattered with blood and bloody corpses and skeletons laying around. Also, most finishers involve quite some blood.

This engine has enough performance problems as it is. They were smart not to get too cute with the extraneous effects.

If you want more blood go to the options of the game in the launcher, click on "Advanced" and put "Decal quantity" on "ultra". If you have already done this, what you have is the most you'll ever get. ;)

I can drag corpses around but cant paint floors with them, yes slight disappointement there.

Blood can be done reasonably convincingly with sprite effects and decals, the ground work is allready there (think curret blood drop squirts and fire scorch marks) and making it togglable in the games graphic options shouldnt be that great an effort either.

If you played STW2 they released a DLC blood that has decapitations with blood spouts, but they way they`ve done it makes it look comical. Ridiculous frankly. I prefer the almost no blood if they can`t do it right.

It would`ve been better had it just been blood.

who wants a ridiculous gore fest like in Dragon Age 2?
I never got over the dagger-stab-explodes-enemies over-the-top animations.

I'm not so much bummed out over the lack of decapitation spurts as I am about the lack of visible damage to your opponents period. One of my playthroughs is a huntress and at this point I can hardly walk down a single road in Skyrim without seeing the corpse of a deer she took down three weeks ago lying there in pristine condition. There's a dead wolf by Whiterun that bears no sign of injury but an arrow to the tail. Not a speck of blood anywhere. Last time I checked, you can't one-shot anything with a tiny sliver of metal to the tip of its tail. So between the scores of apparently taxidermied deer and that untouched death-by-wounded-tail wolf... yeah, s'more visible (and logical) damage would be nice.

1. If they wanted to let maximizing sales get in the way of their artistic expression they would have made the game E for everyone.

2. Where I live M isn't 15+ it's 17+

At least when there isn't much blood the game can't be called in media a butcher simulator.

I don't like a lot of gore in games, but with Skyrim the amount of blood was so low that I had to install that mod. There just has to be some blood on the ground and on combatants after a battle.
