Why no Varla Stones?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:51 am

You should go to the lore forums and ask what CHIM is
I dont get what you mean, I googled up "chim" and I still dont get it. Not sure if thats supposed to be a insult or not.

DLC: once the civial war is over and thalmor ate on the back foot in skyrim it would be cool if theres a trader on each boarder selling stuff from the next provence, mainly with generic stuff like a few alchemy ingridents, books and consumables, as well as a few unique items like stones, statues maybe a weapon or armour peice, they could have been 'collectable' peices and been very very Very exspensive. (unlike anything in this game, i miss traders having a special utem or two for sale thats an obsean amount to buy.

It's not, CHIM is just a subject that's been discussed since Morrowind, back when the entire Lore forum was still trying to figure out meaning behind the 36 lessons of Vivec. Most easily explained CHIM is the state of knowing all, being all and yet still retaining your own identity. It gets a lot more complicated then that however... It's just a joke because of that, not knowing about the Lore and starting with CHIM is probably one of the hardest things you can do.

It's not an insult, it's just a joke about how crazy the lore in this game is. You could try searching the lore forum if you really want to know, but I wouldn't recommend asking people about it...

No, it's more like gaining Enlightenment in a bunch of Eastern traditions... sorta... kinda... in a weird way... This is not the best forum section to be discussing this.

Varla Stones have an inherent flaw in their structure. Once they are subject to temperatures below freezing, the moisture in the stones freezes and expands. The stones disintegrate into tiny pieces when this happens.

That is why there are no Varla Stones in Skyrim.

After getting the platinum trophy (ps3 version) and buying up all the games properties I have a nice stash of gold that I want to spend on something. I want to stimulate the economy but no one has the rare goods i desire.

There are plenty of traders and other NPC's that came from the various regions and no one thought to bring any along?
I would assume you would find one or two as prizes for various fetch quests. Or maybe even in the Dwemer ruins as an ornament. Or even on a falmer that they carry as a prize for kicking the elves out of Skyrim?
No offense at all, but you don't know much about the games.
The Falmer did not kick the elves out of Skyrim, they were elves themselves and most of them were slaughtered by the 500 Companions.
Why would Dwemer have Ayleid artifacts?

haha, this turned out to be a great little discussion. Thanks all!
Obviously im not mad they are missing, just something I noticed. Im not 100% up to speed on all the lore, so thanks for clearing some of that up for me.
Im just kind of suprised I havent ran into one of them as a prize of some sort, i did not expect to see dozens of them like in past installments of the series.

It's quite obvious that the only past installment you've played is Oblivion. They are only in Oblivion and in no other game.

I also played Morrowind but back when it was first released and while in college, so I dont really remember much if any of the story.

You'd think that a bunch of caravan traders would risk going down an Ayleid ruin for artifacts? Or would buy something like that in Cyrodiil when the chances of selling it in Skyrim are relatively small? I'd hope they would be smarter then that.

Oh my, that level of moldiness. I have a sandwich in my room like that. I use it as a security measure.

From my understanding Falmer are elves that were tortured and fed poison by the dwemer and became falmer. If the elves are who had the Varla stones, why wouldnt some go down the line of conquerers? If I had mutated a species I would have some of their older artifacts on display to show my power over them.

The Ayleids and Falmer are two different species of elves.

I have yet to find a single varla stone in skyrim. Has anyone encountered one yet? Are they in the game at all? If not, why?

If I find an Aylied ruin in Skyrim, I'll report back

No Ayleid Ruins exist in Skyrim, mainly because they were built by Elves and the Nords have issues with some of them. Still though, there are tons of soul gems and soul trap spells to fill empty soul gems for use to recharge your weapons.
